Amelia G. McLean
MADISON - Amelia Gertrude McLean, 84, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Madison Health Care, Madison.
She was born Nov. 2, 1916, the daughter of William Herschel and Carlie Sophia (Bishop) Newby in McMinnville, Tenn.
She married Gilbert L. McLean on March 30, 1941, in Mount Vernon, N.Y.
Mrs. McLean moved with her family to Harpersfield Township in 1920. The family moved to Madison in 1933 and she became active in the church life at Central Congregational Church there and serving the church in various capacities since that time.
After graduating from Madison High School, she attended Scharuffler College of Religious and Social Work, Cleveland. After graduation, she worked as director of young people's activities at the Community Church at the Circle, Mount Vernon, N.Y.
During World War II, she served as director of Christian Education at the First Church Congregational, Painesville.
Mrs. McLean was active in community and civic organizations in Madison. Of special interest were the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts in which she served as a leader. She was a member of the Madison Township Park Advisory Board for 19 years. She also worked in the cafeteria of Madison Local Schools for 16 years taking an active roll in the school employee's organization.
Following retirement from the school in 1979, much of her time was spent sewing, gardening and with activities with Women's Fellowship of Central Congregational Church and other service to the church.
She is survived by a son, Douglas of Thompson Township and two grandsons, Corey and Curtis Svagerko.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998 and a daughter, Debra Svagerko in February 1983.
Service is 4 p.m., June 17, at the Central Congregational Church, 71 Park St., Madison. The Rev. Jay Schmidt of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Madison.
No calling hours will be observed.

Nedra I. Szanyi
MADISON TOWNSHIP - Nedra I. Szanyi, 83, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at UHHS Richmond Hospital, Richmond Hts.
She was born July 17, 1917, in Ravenna, the daughter of Webster E. and Thelma (Edelman) Young.
Mrs. Szanyi lived in Madison Township for the past 10 years, Prior to that, she had lived in Chardon Township for more than 30 years.
She married Stephen A. Szanyi on June 29, 1937, in Cumberland, Md.
She worked as a press finisher for the Chardon Rubber Co. for 20 years. She retired in 1980.
Mrs. Szanyi was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Perry Ward, Kirtland Stake. She had worked hard on the Kirtland Stake Center during its construction. She was a primary and Sunday School teacher, and was a visiting teacher supervisor for the Perry Ward. She was active with the Relief Society and worked as a volunteer tour guide at the Whitney Store in Kirtland. She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Irene Roseum of Chester Township; six grandchildren, Allen Riddle, Sherrie Smith, David Riddle, Beth Riddle, Steve Edwards, and Tessa Gable; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Milan Houk of Youngstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, N. Jean Riddle; and a son, Iver.
Service is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kirtland Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 8751 Kirtland Road (Route 306), Kirtland, with the Rev. Kim Haws officiating. Burial will be in the Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

David M. Musial
MADISON - David M. Musial, 41, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Madison Township.
Mr. Musial was born Feb. 22, 1961, in Madison, the son of Theodore F. and Helen (Janakovich) Musial.
A 1979 graduate of Madison High School, he worked as a subcontractor for Yanish Construction Co. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved life, family members said.
Survivors include his father, of Madison; a sister, Mary Ann Malec of Madison; and a brother, Stan Musial of Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison, with The Rev. Luigi Miola officiating.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Potti Funeral Home, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison.
Burial will be in Madison Memorial Cemetery.
James A. Novak
MADISON - James Anthony Novak, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby.
He was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Cleveland, the son of Mildred (Koeth) and Joseph Novak.
He worked as a draftsman at Caterpillar.
Mr. Novak collected numerous lighthouses and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Dietrich and Audra Stolpa, both of Madison; and two grandchildren, A.J. Dietrich and Konrad Stolpa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (Urusko) in 1998, whom he married May 11, 1963, in Cleveland.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison, with the Rev. Luigi Miola officiating. Interment will be in North Madison Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed.

Helen Shapiro
MADISON - Helen Shapiro, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Lake East Hospital in Painesville.
She was born July 15, 1915, in Cleveland, the daughter of Vilma and Louis Tessler and moved to Madison from Eastlake six years ago.
Mrs. Shapiro was a milliner at the former Sterling Linder Davis store in Cleveland.
She enjoyed playing bridge and Mah jong, crochet and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a brother, Bernard Tessler of Greer, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shapiro was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Albert Shapiro.
A service of remembrance for the family will take place at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Thora A. Eastman
MADISON - Thora A. Eastman, 94, formerly of E. 21st St., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Inn-Madison Nursing Home in Lake County.
She was born March 9, 1907, in Springboro Pa., the daughter of Harley H. and Verna (Davenport) Boyce, the older of two children she moved with her family to Ashtabula in 1922.
Mrs. Eastman was a graduate of Ashtabula High School in 1925. She spent the rest of her life in the area.
She married Frank E. Eastman March 9, 1926.
Mrs. Eastman was a member of First United Methodist Church, she served as president of Women's Society of Christian Service, which awarded her life membership. A Sunday School teacher and lay leader she also served as a Status of Women at the conference level. In 1958, Governor Michael Disalle appointed her to represent Ashtabula County in forming a Commission on Aging.
She was a member of Delphian Reader's Club and enjoyed camping and fishing at a family owned Canadian cottage. She worked part time in Boyce's Meat Market, Eastman's Clover Farm Market and for a short period of time in Carlisle's.
Survivors include four children, Wesley John of North Perry, Jo Ellen McMannis of Cincinnati, Mary Hall of Cleveland Heights, and Judy (Hill) Fleming of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; and a sister, Jocelyn in 2000.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Kevin Horrigan of Prospect Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
