James K. Tharp Sr.
PERRY - James K. Tharp Sr., 76, died Sunday April 15, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Tharp was born April 8, 1924, in Louisville Ky.
He worked at Eaton Axle Corp. after his retirement as a refiner of brick buildings, served four years as a North Perry road commissioner, was a member of Masonic Lodge 307 of Madison and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Tharp served in the U.S. Army during World War II, loved his family and enjoyed working on his land.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marcella; three sons, J. Kenneth Jr. of Perry, Daniel of Painesville and Tracy of Geneva; two daughters, Rhoda Greer of San Antonio, Tex., and Rebecca Boslett of Fairport; 10 grandchildren, Dana, Kenny, Tara, John, Jennifer, Missy, Stephanie, Stevie, Trevor and Taryn; four great grandchildren; a brother, Mac of Minnesota, and a sister, Betty Jean Boston of Hardenburg, Ky.
Mr. Tharp was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Carl; a sister, Alice Kuivila, and a granddaughter, Jordan Leigh.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River St., Madison, with the Rev. Gayle Neumann of jubilant remnant, Mentor-on-the Lake, officiating. Burial will be at Perry Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Norma L. Gilbert
PERRY - Norma L. Gilbert, 83, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Meridia Hillcrest Hospital, Mayfield Heights.
She was born March 18, 1919, in Clarksburg, W.Va., the daughter of Hersel and Anna (Kemp) Williams. She was a longtime resident of the Smithfield, W.Va., area.
A homemaker, Mrs.. Gilbert was a member of St. James Methodist Church, Smithfield, W Va., and the Senior Citizens Group.
Survivors include a daughter, Grace Criss of Perry; three grandchildren, James Criss II, Danny Criss, and Kelly Criss; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Annabelle Jones of Huntsburg Township; and a dear friend, Denver Raines of Perry.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dan Conaway; her second husband, Oval Gilbert; a son, Gary Conaway; two brothers, Paul and Roy Lee Williams; and her parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Methodist Church, Smithfield, W.Va. Burial will be in Mannington Memorial Cemetery, Mannington, W.Va.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.
David A. Reid Jr.
PERRY - David Alan Reid Jr., 16, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his grandparent's home in Madison.
David was born Nov. 25, 1984, in Painesville, the son of Loretta (Hutson) Kempert and David Reid Sr.
He was an honor student at Perry High School, where he had a 4.0 grade point average. He was a Gold Medalist with the Perry Academic Decathlon and enjoyed drawing and writing poetry.
Survivors include his father, of Perry; his mother, of Mentor; four sisters, Amanda, Holly, Courtney, and Lauren; two brothers, Tyler and Brett; his paternal grandparents, James W. and Jeanne Reid, of Madison; and his maternal grandmother Carol Reed of Geneva.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. The Rev. Ken Wright of the Lake County Church of God and the Rev. Mike Cole of the First Baptist Church will officiate.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Perry Cemetery.
Clarence B. Tenney
PERRY - Clarence B. Tenney, 85, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Inn-Madison Health Center.
He was born April 8, 1917, in Louisville, Ky., to Clarence R. and Della Lee Tenney. He lived in Perry since 1947. He married Mary Otto May 3, 1947, in Painesville.
Mr. Tenney was a machine assembler with C.E. Tyler in Mentor for 21 years, retiring in 1983. From 1945 to 1953, he worked as a stationary engineer for Stauffer Chemicals in Perry.
He joined Aurora Masonic Lodge 633 in Louisville, Ky., in 1939. He was a member of Royal Arch Chapter 46 in Painesville.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Evelyn Bonadonna of Benton, Ky., and a brother, Frank E. Tenney of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary, last month.
Funeral is noon Thursday at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, officiated by the Rev. Shirley Malzer of First Church Congregational, Painesville. Burial is in Perry Cemetery.
Calling hour is 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Dorethea Ashburn
PERRY - Dorethea "Deets" Lawrence Ashburn, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, of complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure, at her home.
She was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Annadale, Pa., to George and Irma (Ace) Lawrence. She lived in Mineral Ridge before moving to Perry in 1969.
Mrs. Ashburn married Clarence E. Ashburn June 19, 1948, in Mineral Ridge.
She worked as a cook at the Madison Senior Center, retiring in 1995. She also worked at the former Painesville Telegraph.
Mrs. Ashburn collected owls and Indians. She spent many of her years crocheting afghans for her sons and grandchildren. She loved flowers, people-watching, camping, and spending time around the campfire with her family.
Survivors include husband Clarence; sons Rodger of Madison, Bruce of Rock Creek, Richard of Perry, and Bradley of Leroy; grandchildren Katie, Scott, Tim, Jim, Sheri, Tricia and Randy; two great-grandsons; brother Robert Lawrence of Mineral Ridge; and sister Norma Jean Robison of McDonald.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother George Jr.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River St., Madison, officiated by the Rev. Larry Wade of Park Street Christian Church, Geneva. Burial will be in Perry Cemetery.

Jean B. Poulson
PERRY - Jean B. Poulson, 79, of Perry, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Madison Health Care Center, Madison Township.
Born May 10, 1922, in Painesville, she was the daughter of Samuel J. and Eleanore A. (Maly) Brainard and was a lifelong Perry/Painesville area resident.
She married Charles Edgar Poulson on Nov. 25, 1948, in Painesville.
A 1940 Harvey High School graduate, she received a degree from Ohio University, Athens, in 1944.
Mrs. Poulson assisted her husband in the operation of Brookside Fruit Farm in Perry.
She was a member of Perry United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Hawley of Perry, Nancy Poulson of Mentor, and Sally Poulson of Perry; a son, Thomas of Perry; and four grandchildren, John, Sarah, Daniel and Adam.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 28, and her parents.
A private graveside service will be at Perry Cemetery, Center Road, Perry. The Rev. Joy Blaney of Perry United Methodist Church will officiate.
No calling hours will be observed.

Raymond E. Phillipp
PERRY - Raymond E. Phillipp, 85, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his home. He had been a lifelong resident of Perry.
He was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Wickliffe, the son of Catherine (Macco) and Charles Phillipp.
Mr. Phillipp married Jennie (Petrowski) Nov. 2, 1940, in Painesville.
He was a self-employed drywall finisher.
Mr. Cole enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and golfing. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Perry.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie (Petrowski); five daughters, Donna Loomis of Joaquin, Texas, Janice Martin of Chardon, Judy Smith of Nashville, Tenn., Velma Smith of Tucson, Ariz., and Barbara Mills of Middlefield; two sons, R. Bruce Phillipp of Madison, and David Phillipp of Painesville; 29 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Louann and Darlene Phillipp; two sisters, Vickie and Dorothy; and four brothers, Fred, John, Howard and Carl.
Funeral will be noon Monday at the Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River St., Madison. Burial will be in Perry Cemetery.
