Richard C. Collins
JOHNSTON TOWNSHIP - Richard C. Collins, 91, of Wamer Road in Johnston, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Paul Homes Health Center in West Salem.
Born Sept. 30, 1910, in Westford, Pa., he was a son of Clarence and Nellie (Frey) Collins.
Formerly of Westford, Pa., Mr. Collins was a Johnston Township resident since 1934. He was a 1928 graduate of Westford High School. He married Dorothy L. Schlaich Noble on Aug. 9, 1963. She died on Dec. 7, 1996.
Mr. Collins worked for U.S. Steel Corp. as an inspector for more than 25 years, retiring in 1971. During that time, he also owned and operated a small dairy farm. He was a member of Johnston Federated United Methodist Church, and was a baseball fan.
Survivors include a son, Gordon Collins of Andover; two daughters, Roberta Steen of Modesto, Calif., and Marlene Horton of Ballantine, Mon., a step-son, Herbert Noble of N. Jackson; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, and a brother, Howard Collins.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Burford
STUART, Fla. - John "Ben" Burford, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Martin Memorial Medical Center, Stuart, Fla.
He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Farmdale, the son of George F. and Edna A. (Crooks) Burford and had moved to Florida 21 years ago.
He was a Kinsman High School graduate and attended Youngstown State University.
Mr. Burford served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked as the postmaster with the U.S Postal Service in Farmdale and North Jackson for 30 years.
Mr. Burford was a member of First United Methodist Church, Stuart; a 50-year member of Gustavus Masonic Lodge 442 Free & Accepted Masons; an affiliate member of Acacia Masonic Lodge 163 F&AM, Stuart; a member of Martin County High Twelve Club 520, Amara Shrine of Palm Beach Gardens, Scottish Rite Valley of Lake Worth, Fla., Kinsman American Legion, and NAPUS.
Survivors include his wife, Anne (Rowland), whom he married Sept. 22, 1956; two sons, Jonathan of Williamsfield Township, and Don of Kinsman; two daughters, Jeanne Mitchell of Stuart, Fla., and Marilyn Gavitt of Jensen Beach, Fla.; a brother, Richard of Jamestown, Pa.; two sisters, Sara Cassidy of Youngstown, and Lillian Rutter of Greenville, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Arthur; and four sisters, Martha Burford, Edna DiDay, Virginia Eickleberry, and Margaret Quinn.
Graveside service with interment of cremated remains will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Kinsman Cemetery Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Kubichek officiating. A Masonic service also will be observed.

WALTER J. LANDIS SR.
FARMDALE -- Walter J. "Sonny" Landis Sr., age 70, of Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Farmdale, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, April 4, 2006, at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sonny was born January 13, 1936, in Hubbard, a son of the late Leslie and Mary Ladig Landis, and moved to Farmdale in 1974.
A 1954 graduate of Hubbard High School, he worked as a Machine Operator for American Welding for 28 years, retiring in 1994, and he also worked for a time at Buckeye Tack Lumber in Hubbard.
He was a member of the F.O.E. Andover Aerie, No. 4035.
Sonny raced stock cars as "Triple Nickel" in the 1950's and 60's at Sharon Speedway, and in Pulaski and Mercer, Pennsylvania. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter, and enjoyed gardening, puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife, Judy Doran Landis, whom he married April 14, 1958; three sons, Michael A. (Tracie) Landis of Williamsfield, Ohio, and Walter J. Jr. (Debbe) Landis and Joseph P. (Dienna) Landis, both of Kinsman; two daughters, Laurie L. (Bill) Perkins of Masury, and Barbara A. (Kevin) Schnarrs of Vienna; 11 grandchildren, Courtney, Nickolas, Melissa, Kasey, Kayla, Kyle, Brittany, Curtis, Dylan, Rebecca, and Anthony; a brother, Leslie (Carol) Landis of East Lake; six sisters, Doris McClymonds, Jane (Edward) Williams, Patricia (Herman) Draves, and Linda (Tom) Toth, all of Hubbard, Joan Blackburn of Leavittburg, and Sandi (Allen) Taylor of Masury; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald P. Landis; and a sister, Norma J. Kaszowski.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006, at KINNICK FUNERAL HOME, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown. Interment will follow at Gustavus Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Funeral Home.
Mildred A. Waters
FARMDALE - Mildred A. Waters, 94, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Oaks of Avon in Avon Park. Fla.
Born June 8, 1908, in West Newton, Pa., she was the daughter of Guy F. and Jane (Warburton) Allen. She was a graduate of West Newton High School and Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa.
After working at St. Joseph Riverside Hospital in Warren, she finished her career at various nursing homes and doing private duty nursing.
She married Floyd R. Waters on July 11, 1935 and belonged to the Kinsman United Methodist Church. She was active in the Kinsman Nutrition Site, Kinsman Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Golden Aires and the Kinsman B.P.W.
While in Florida, her activities included A.A.R.P., the Sun Room, Avon Park Winter Guest Club, while attending the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
Survivors include her two daughters, Crystal Elaine Miller of Avon Park, Fla. and Floye Myers of Kinsman; grandchildren, Lori Woodford of Westland, Mich., Amy Sue McCreight of Delaware, Gunnery Sgt. Mark Myers of Newport, N.C., Kellie Shannon, Esq., of Philadelphia, Pa. and Michael Shannon, Webmaster, of Philadelphia; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Woodford and Carson Myers.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband in 1990; infant son, Peter Guy Waters; a brother, Robert Allen; a sister, Melva Stevenson; and a niece, Viva Jane Novak. Service is 4 p.m. Sunday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Newton, Pa. Burial will be Monday at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton, Pa.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Kinsman United Methodist Church or Kinsman Nutrition Site.
Wanda H. Bedlion
JOHNSTON - Wanda H. Bedlion, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Briarfield of Cortland in Fowler Township.
She was born May 15, 1930, in Farmington, the daughter of Elmer and Leona (Scott) Philbrick.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Bedlion was a 1948 graduate of Farmington High School. She married Virgil J. Bedlion June 26, 1948.
Survivors include her two sons, Thomas A. Bedlion of Johnston, and Timothy L. Bedlion of Vernon; two sisters, Naomi Klobovis of Farmington, and Elsie Durst of Vernon; a brother, Forest Philbrick of Conneaut Lake, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died July 4, 1999; two sons, Gerald E. and Virgil E. Bedlion; and two brothers, Carl and Elmer Philbrick.
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, with the Rev. Wilford C. Simeral officiating.
Burial will follow in Johnston Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Joy M. Austin
JOHNSTON - Joy M. Austin, 24, of Ridge Road Northeast, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
She was born Dec. 6, 1978, in Warren, to Terry M. and Judith A. Austin.
Ms. Austin was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Champion High School's multiple handicap class in 2001. She did piecework for Fairhaven School.
She attended Mecca Community Church. She loved baby dolls and going out to eat.
Survivors include her parents of Johnston; sister April R. Bell of Fredricksburg, Va.; brother Tracy M. Austin of Sarasota, Fla.; and paternal grandfather Niles M. Austin of Johnston. She had more distant relatives in Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Lawrence R. and Marjorie B. Hunter, and paternal grandmother Doris L. Austin.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mecca Community Church, 5920 Phillips Rice Road, Cortland, officiated by the Rev. Charles Kindle. Burial of cremated remains will take place at the convenience of the family.

Juanita L. Rathburn
JOHNSTON, Ohio - Juanita L. Rathburn, 61, of Johnston, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Imperial Skilled Care Center in Warren.
She was born Dec. 12, 1940, in Warren, the daughter of George A and Marion L. (Lorenz) Rice.
A lifelong Johnston resident, Mrs. Rathburn was a 1957 graduate of Johnston High School. She attended Youngstown State University for two years.
She married Martin A. Rathburn on March 3, 1962.
Along with her husband, she owned and operated a dairy farm. She also was a mail carrier for Cortland for seven years.
She was a member of the Johnston Federated United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed bowling, reading, camping, and swimming.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bruce M. and George A., both of Johnston; a daughter, Carol Lee Anderson of Johnston; five grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Rice of Howland, Ohio, and David P. Rice of Gustavus, Ohio; and a sister, Cynthia M. Yaney, Hemet, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Susan Gilmore.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. Burial will follow in Johnston Cemetery.
Calling hours will be noon to the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
