Martha E. ''Betty'' Krankovich
October 15, 1923 - December 27, 2005
Martha E. ''Betty'' Krankovich, 82, of Cadiz, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. She was born October 15, 1923 in East Cadiz, Ohio, a daughter of the late Jess and Anna Baker Manbeck.
A Protestant by faith, Betty was a ''Rosie the Riveter'' at an aircraft factory in Indiana during WW II.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Krankovich in 1991; a grandson, Dana Krankovich; a great grandson, Justin Brown; and three brothers, Woodrow, Charles and William Manbeck.
Surviving are three sons, Daniel Krankovich of Belpre, Frank and his wife, Sally Krankovich, and William and his wife, Denise Krankovich, all of Cadiz; six daughters, Kay Martin, Mary Ferriera, Rose Krankovich, Donna Volan, Linda Rudd, and Martha and her husband, Roy Gatts, all of Cadiz; twenty one grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a brother, Jess Sheldon Manbeck of Cadiz; and a special friend.
Friends may call at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home on Thursday, December 29, 2005 from 2-4 and 6 until time of service at 7:30 p.m. Terry Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hopedale.
Ruth Anna Johnson
November 15, 1926 - December 19, 2005
Ruth Anna Johnson, 79, of Bowerston, formerly of Scio, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005 at Bowerston Pointe Health Care Center. She was born November 15, 1926 in Germano, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ernest A. And Nannie Polen Johnson.
She was a member of the Scio United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School at the Germano Presbyterian Church, and helped with activities and sang and read to the nursing home residents at Bowerston Pointe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hendricks and by a great nephew.
Surviving are a brother, Jack Johnson of West Palm Beach, FL; two sisters, Doris Trushell of Murrels Inlet, SC and Naomi Bellville of Carrollton; six nieces; four great nieces; two great nephews; three great great nieces and three great great nephews.
Friends may call Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 from 11 until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Burial will follow at Germano Cemetery.
John J.B. Kerwood
April 04, 1952 - December 19, 2005
John ''J.B.'' Kerwood, 53, of Bowerston, formerly of Jewett, died Monday, December 19, 2005 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. He was born April 4, 1952 in Zanesville, Ohio a son of Beatrice Raber Kerwood of Jewett, and the late Ross Kerwood, Sr.
J.B. was a disabled construction worker, and was a former employee of Harmony Industries of Mingo Jct., OH and the Scio Pottery Co. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ross, Jr., and by his step-father, John Cothran.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Darlene DeGarmo Kerwood, a daughter, Dawn (Lito) Morales-Angel of Jewett; a son Shayne Kerwood of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Jalisha, Rashaen, Gianna and Isabella; four brothers, Charles of Cleveland, Samuel (M.J.) of Scio, Craig of Scio, and Jerry (Shelly) of Jewett; four sisters, Beatrice Lewis of Warren, OH, Dorothy Kerwood of Jewett, Sara (Carl) Goodrich of Cadiz, and Diane (Bob) Hilbert of Jewett; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 from 2 until time of Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 from 10 until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Rev. Jack Klinesmith and Joel Ignace will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hopedale, Ohio.
Tom Kanopsic
February 10, 1940 - December 15, 2005
Tom Kanopsic, 65, of New Athens, Ohio, died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at his home. He was born February 10, 1940 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a son of Madeline Kanciler Ballog of Maynard and the late Albert Kanopsic.
He attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard, and was a full time farmer at the Breezy Acres Angus Farm, which he owned. He was a retired Coal Miner from Consolidation Coal Co. #25 Mine, and was a retired Ohio Mine Inspector. He was an active member of the UMWA and the Angus Association.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, John Ballog.
Surviving, in addition to his mother are his wife, Sue Burroughs; a son, John Kanopsic of New Athens; a daughter, Kathy Combs of Columbus; three stepsons; two granddaughters; two step granddaughters and four step grandsons.
Friends may call Saturday, December 17, 2005 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Following a prayer service conducted by Rev. Fr. Virgil Reischman, burial will be in Short Creek Cemetery, Georgetown.

Lucy B. Roberts

Lucy B. Roberts, 80, of St. Clairsville formerly of Cadiz, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Forrest Hills Nursing Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio. She was born January 12, 1925 in Bridgeport, W. Va. A daughter of the late Arlis Earl and Verchie Childers McIntyre.
She was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Cadiz and a housewife.
She was preceded in death in addition to her parents; by her husband, Guy Roberts on June 25, 1977; 5 brothers: Ben, Donald, Aldon, Herman, and Ernest McIntyre; and 2 sisters, Emma Flaherty and Rose Dickey.
She is survived by a sister, Martha Paige of Carrollton; a brother Norman McIntyre of Texarkana, Texas.; and a number of nieces and nephews including, Bev McIntyre of Fairpoint, Ohio and Arliss Williston of Carrollton, Ohio.
Calling hours are Monday, December 19, from Noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, with Rev. Paul Crane officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hopedale, Ohio.
Robert L. DeWalt
October 17, 1932 - December 14, 2005
Robert L. DeWalt, 73, of Hanover Ridge, Jewett, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at his home. He was born October 17, 1932 in Harrison County, Ohio, a son of the late Victor and Edith Carrothers DeWalt.
He was a member of Ridge Presbyterian Church; a retired coal miner having worked at Consol Franklin Mine #125; an Archer Township Trustee; sexton at Ridgeview Cemetery; a former member of the North America Hunting Club; and was an avid hunter who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Victor DeWalt and an infant brothert; and two sisters, Roseann DeWalt and Ada Wolfe.
Surviving are his wife Carol Bolitho DeWalt; two sons, Robert (Jody) DeWalt of Uhrichsville, and Jeffery (Beth Kinsey) DeWalt of Dennison; a daughter, Kimberly DeWalt of the home; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Katherine Alexander of Jewett; and three brothers, James DeWalt of Leesville, Ross DeWalt of Columbus, and John DeWalt of Scio.

Elma Lacey Somerville

Elma Lacey Garvin Somerville of Cadiz, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 27 at Harrison Community Hospital at the age of 91. Lacey was born July 28, 1914 in Bloomingdale, Ohio to Wellington and Mary Hoobler Timmons. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Ferguson; brothers, James and Samuel Timmons; son, George Douglas Somerville, Jr.; and husbands, William Garvin and George Douglas Somerville, Sr. She is survived by son, James Somerville of Columbus; brother, William Timmons; niece Carole Mariana; nephew, John Timmons, all of Cadiz; granddaughter, Amber Browne of Chevy Chase, MD; grandsons, Garth Somerville of Garnes, NC and Giles Somerville of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous great grandchildren; and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Lacey was a member of Scott United Methodist Church and an employee of the Scio Pottery for 30 years. She was an avid golfer, bowler, seamstress, and bridge player. She was an active member of the Cadiz Senior Citizen Center and spent the last years of her life at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston, Ohio.

Martha Hines

Martha Hines, 92, Cadiz, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Beacon Pointe, Uhrichsville, Ohio. She was born July 1, 1913 on Gilmore Ridge, Harrison County a daughter of the late Frank W. And Stella Leech Robinson.
Martha was a member of Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church, Cadiz; the Eagles Auxiliary #2162, Cadiz; Mt. Vernon Social Club; committee women for the Republican Party; and had an extensive elephant collection. She cleaned houses in the Cadiz area.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Roy Hines on July 11, 1979; a son James Hines on November 26, 1992; 2 brothers: Frank and Albert Robinson; and 2 sisters: Anna Mae Len and Edna Ferrell.
Martha is survived by a daughter, Lois Poulson of Stillwater; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Hines of Cadiz; 11 Grandchildren: Joy (Steve) Miles of Freeport, Gay (Rodney) Tedrick of Tippecanoe, Lesa (Robert) Kemp of Dellroy, Roy (Roxanne) Poulson of Bolivar, Eric (Carol) Poulson of Bolivar, Loretta (J.C.) Pinchek of Tippecanoe, Ray (Darla) Poulson of Dover, Jayne (Tim) Horner of Tippecanoe, Donna (Bob) McMillen of Cadiz, James F. (Teresa) Hines of Cadiz, and Ginger (Jeff) Held of Cadiz; 24 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a good friend, Irene Dunlap of Cadiz.

Jacquelyn Ann Banks Busby, 56, of Cadiz, died Thursday, January 16, 2006 at home following a lengthy illness. She was born August 17, 1949 in Cadiz.
She was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Cadiz.
She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Helen Banks Freeman and David Freeman, and by a brother David Michael Freeman.
She leaves behind to mourn her death, a daughter, Sonya (Matthew) Kibble of Cadiz; a son Matthew (Lori) Busby of McDonough, GA; two brothers, Clyde Lester (Carmen) Banks and Robert (Kelly) Banks, all of Cadiz; two sisters, Helen Burgins and Mildred Johnson, both of Steubenville; four grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and many relatives and friends.

Ira D. Beard, Sr., 80, Jewett, died Thursday February 16, 2006 at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, Ohio. He was born January 16, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio a son of the late John and Vina Beard.
He attended the First Church of Christ in Cadiz, a member of the Hopedale American Legion, and was a former truck driver and dozer operator having worked in the coal field.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; by his first wife, Helen Beard; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; and 2 stepgrandsons: Bryston and Kayden Moreland.
He is survived by his second wife Melba McAfee Beard of Jewett; 4 daughters: Darlene Fraley, Beulah Kathyrn Richardson, Susan and Larry Myers all of Mansfield, Ohio, and Helen Knight of Leesville, Ohio; 2 sons: Ira and Peggy Beard, Jr. of Scio and Albert and Pauline Beard of Washington Court House, Ohio; 4 stepdaughters: Rose Bove of New Philadelphia, Gloria Busby of Moundsville, W. Va., and Tina Davidson and Linda Moreland both of Cadiz; a stepson, John Moreland of Cadiz; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
