USA High School Yearbooks by State and County

Margaret M. Zavasky, age 83, of Concord Township, formerly of South Euclid, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
She was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Cleveland.
Mrs. Zavasky was a homemaker and a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and reading. Spending time with her family meant a lot to her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors are her husband of 61 years, Julius W. "Jay" Zavasky; children, Douglas (Barb) Zavasky of Mentor, Karen (Charles J.) Vrtovsnik of Mentor, Janet (LaRue) Johnson of Plano, Texas and Thomas (Judy) Zavasky of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren, David (fiancee, Erin) and Jenna Zavasky, Matthew, Aimee, Lindsay Vrtovsnik, Bryan and Marc Johnson and Mikaela, Devin, Luke Zavasky; and sister, Irene Negus of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Bertha Jacob; and brother, Louis Jacob.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
The family suggests contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Mentor.

Mildred Withers Harper, 87 of Willoughby for the past 43 years, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Sunrise of Willoughby Assisted Living. She was born Aug. 6, 1922, Huntington, W.Va.
Mrs. Harper worked as a salesperson for Higbee's.
She was a member of D.A.R. New Connecticut Chapter for more than 20 years, a Red Cross volunteer for more than 40 years, volunteered at Lake West Hospital, was a member of Al-Anon since 1984, B.A.B.E.S. at the public schools, VFW Lodge 1500 in Willoughby, and First Christian Church in Eastlake.
Survivors are her daughters, Avonna (Dennis) Watson of Barboursville, W.Va., and Carolyn Croaning of Mentor-on-the-Lake; grandchildren, Lynda (Mark) Swain, D. Bryan (Melanie) Watson, Cathi (Scott) Ledet, Ivan Kerr, and Robert (Tammy) Kerr; great-grandchildren, Tori, Drew, Nikki, Shelby, Lauryn, Abby, Travis, Christian, Cindie, Alexis and Sara; nieces, Marilyn (John) Frame, and Anita Carol (Bob) Adkins; nephew, Jake Withers; and sister-in-law, Auzalia Dodrill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Q. Harper; grandson, Joseph Kerr; parents, H. Kelly and Abigal Withers; sister, Reba Jean Withers; brothers, Kelly, Jacob and Leland Withers; and niece, Evelyn Maynard.
Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday December 13, 2009 at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to American Red Cross, Lake County Chapter, 1016 Bank St., Painesville, OH 44077.

Diane D. Serbin, age 60, of Concord Township, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Independence Village in Avon Lake. She was born Feb. 18, 1950, in Wilkensburg, Pa.
Diane loved spending time with her family and friends, animals and children. She enjoyed collecting angels, dancing and country music. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Mentor Medical Campus.
Survivors are her father, Michael Serbin of Concord Township; two brothers, Dan (Kathe) Serbin of Avon Lake and Ron (Debbie) Serbin of Raleigh, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Lee and Jeff Serbin, Melissa (Chad) Essick and Jessica (Thomas) Moore; great-niece, Adeline Moore; one aunt, Jean (George) Parks; and two uncles, Hugh (Eileen) Samson and George (Maryann) Serbin. She is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes (Samson) Serbin.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday September 8, 2010 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 7989 Little Mountain Road, Mentor, where the family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Diane's memory may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.
Arrangements were entrusted to Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Mentor.

Funeral service for Diana M. (Gearde) Kuk, 54, of Concord Township, will be 11 a.m. Thursday September 23, 2004 at the Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Mrs. Kuk died Sept. 20, 2004, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. She was born June 15, 1950, in Fairmont, W.Va., she lived in Mentor before moving to Concord Township one year ago.
She loved the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
Mrs. Kuk was a former medical insurance secretary.
Survivors are her husband of 31 years, Larry M.; mother, Marguerite Gearde; brother, Jim (Mary) Gearde; sister-in-law, Marlene (Al) Patete; niece, Dawn Kohn; nephew, Dan Patete; great-niece, Gianna Kohn; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Her father, Frank Gearde, is deceased.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery in Mentor.
The family suggests contributions be made in care of the family to the Diana M. Kuk Memorial Fund.

Bernard F. "Ben" Zale, 86, of Concord Township and formerly of Mentor, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Serenity Suites in Ashtabula.
He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Cleveland.
Mr. Zale retired in 1986 from Willo-Hill Industries in Willoughby. Prior to that, he worked for Gabriel Company.
He was an active member of AA since 1971. He retired from Cleveland Federation of Musicians in 1984. He was an accordion player in the Cleveland area for 50 years. Mr. Zale belonged to St. Bede the Venerable Church, and delivered Meals-On-Wheels in Lake County.
Survivors are his children, Larry (Mary) Zale of Mentor, Roger (Naomi) Zale of Austinburg and Holly (Tom) Thomas of Sugar Land, Texas; grandchildren, Megan, Rebecca, Nicholas, Aaron, and Ryan (Amanda) Zale, Nathan (Lyndsay) Hart, Robert (Christina) Fratena, Joseph (Monicah) Fratena and Timothy Fratena; great-grandchildren, Zack Wyatt, Maddie and Baby Fratena; and beloved companion, Rose Marie Spann of Concord Township.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Zale; and his parents, Bernard F. and Frances Zablotny.

Emil Sertich, 88, of Painesville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at the Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky.
He was born June 15, 1922, in Virginia, Minn.
Mr. Sertich was a Seaman with Oglebay Norton for many years.
Survivors are his children, Margaret Voelker of Painesville, Mary (James) Hegfield of Madison and Mark (Dawn) Sertich of Painesville; seven grandchildren, Mary Jane, Marsha, David, Mark, Sarah, Linsey and Holly; sister, Emily (Wilbur) Hyde of New Haven, Ind.; and brother, Thomas Sertich of Willoughby Hills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Sertich; daughter, Marilyn Pierce; and five brothers, John, Lewis, Frank, Joseph and Anthony Sertich.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville. The family will host a reception in the Brunner Community Room immediately following the burial.
Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Sertich to Stein Veteran's Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.

Gregorio V. Saldana, age 52, of Ashtabula, died Aug. 1, 2010, at University Hospitals in Cleveland. He was born Nov. 28, 1957, in Mexico.
Mr. Saldana was a foreman at Losley Nursery for more than 30 years.
Survivors are his wife, Jacqueline of Ashtabula; children, Kristi Munoz, Jolonda Costella, Maria Saldana and Gregorio Saldana Jr.; seven loving grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Maria Saldana.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor 44060.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday August 6, 2010 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Ridge Road, Geneva.
