Services for Jerry "Dewy" McConnell, age 43, of Mentor, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Ridge United Methodist Church, 9870 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township. Mr. McConnell passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at home, surrounded by his family and many friends. He was born March 17, 1967, in Cleveland.
He loved boating with "Clifford" and "Little Clifford" at the Mentor Harbor Yacht Club, was an avid snowmobiler and an avid Cleveland sports fan. He was a 1985 graduate of Eastlake North High School, a member of Kirtland Christian Fellowship and Lake Erie Offshore Performance Association.Mr. McConnell was the co-owner of Royal Plastics Inc. of Mentor.
Survivors are his wife of 13 years, Kristen (Zema) McConnell of Mentor; sons, Jerry A. and Noah P. McConnell, at home; parents, Gary and Fran McConnell of Concord Township; sister, Christine (Tim) Egensperger of Concord Township; brother, Ernie (Shirley) Deitrick of Mentor; aunt, Patti Zeelo of Concord Township; and cousins, David (Debbie) Usnik of Mentor and Danny (Christine Remington) Usnik of Mentor. He was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene Zeelo.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wester Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119; Cornerstone of Hope, 5905 Brecksville Road, Cleveland, OH 44131; Salvation Army, 69 Pearl St., Painesville, OH 44077 and Hope Chest, 85 North Park Place, Painesville, OH 44077.

Funeral Mass for Paul J. Mauer, 74, of Kirtland, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 9, 2004 at the Divine Word Church, 8100 Eagle Road, in Kirtland.
Mr. Mauer died Oct. 6, 2004, at LakeWest Hospital in Willoughby. He was born March 21, 1930, in Cleveland, he lived in Willoughby before moving to Kirtland 21 years ago.
He was a member of Divine Word Church, where he was an usher, altar server, member of the Holy Name Society, Eucharistic Minister, member of Respect Life Commission, and active with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Mauer worked as a sales manager for a power equipment distributorship in Cleveland. Following his retirement, he worked at Divine Word Church. He previously had owned a lawn mover sales and service company in Chester Township.
Survivors are her wife of 52 years, Marie (Giacomin); children, Jeanne (Craig) Vaughn of Painesville Township, John (Darlene) Mauer of Chardon, Joanne (Tim) Brenenstuhl of Kirtland, Julie (Robert) Kenney of Eastlake, and Jacquelyn (Gordon) Woodworth II, of Mentor; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sisters, Catherine Timko of Willowick and Julia Tomoletz of Mentor.
His daughter, Judith; sister, Mary Ida; and parents, Elisabeth (Oberling) and Louis Mauer, are deceased.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., in Mentor.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.

Ernest C. "Jay" Whitworth, age 93, of Mentor and formerly of Eastlake, died Oct. 23, 2010, at Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Cleveland.
Mr. Whitworth was owner/operator of Whitworth Brothers Moving and Storage in Cleveland. A graduate of the Cleveland School of Art in 1939, he was past president of the alumni association for the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cleveland Society of Artists and the Creative Artists Association. He taught painting at the Willoughby School of Fine Arts for 40 years.
A member of Church of the Epiphany in Euclid, he designed and built the columbarium at the church and also had been a member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Dublin, OH. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann (Ralph) Dumont; sons, Albert (Georgia) Whitworth of Calif. and Jonathan (Julia) Whitworth; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; first wife Dorotha (Whitworth) Woodard; stepdaughter, Francine Jones; stepdaughter-in-law, Louise Kuhar; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Emma; stepson, Ronald Kuhar; and brothers, Arthur and William; niece Parilee Walsh.
Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday November 6, 2010 at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Church of the Epiphany. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Willoughby Fine Arts Association, 38660 Mentor Ave., Willoughby, OH 44094-7797; or to Hospice House, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.

Funeral service for Joseph J. Porostosky, age 53, of Painesville Twp. will be held 12 noon Saturday October 2, 2004 at Lake Shore Assembly of God, 8880 Lake Shore Blvd., Mentor.
Mr. Porostosky died Friday Sept. 24, 2004 at his residence. He was born Nov 4, 1950 in Painesville, Ohio, he had lived in Painesville Twp. for the last 27 years.
Mr. Porostosky was a teacher at Lake Catholic High School for 18 years. He was also a Senior Commander and District Training Coordinator of the Royal Rangers and an usher for many years at Lake Shore Assembly of God. He received his master’s degree in education from Cleveland State University.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years Veronica, daughter Maria (Micah) Lyman of Mississippi, son Reverend Joseph (Tricia) Porostosky of Columbus, Mother and Step father Florence (Anthony) Straziar of Mentor, brothers Jim of Mentor and Mark of Madison, sister Sue (Erp) Hall of Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph B.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon p.m. Saturday October 2, 2004 at the church.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.

Graveside service Duane C. Phillips, age 86, of Jacksonville, Fla. will be held 11 a.m. Friday October 8, 2004 at Mentor Cemetery, 6881 Hopkins Rd., Mentor, Ohio. Section 16.
Mr. Phillips died Saturday September 11, 2004 at Southpoint Terrace in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born March 13, 1918 in Chagrin Falls, he had lived in Mentor and Port St. Lucie before moving to Jacksonville, Fla.
He was vice president/general manager for the Anheuser-Busch distributor in Cleveland retiring to Port St. Lucie, Fla. in 1980. A volunteer at the St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie.
He was a 1936 graduate of Mentor High School, a member of the American Legion Post in Mentor of which he was a member since 1946, member of the Scottish Rite, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, George Holly Lodge # 745, Willoughby Mason Lodge #302 and he was a member of the Al Koran Shriners. A U.S. Navy and Merchant Marine veteran.
Survivors include his daughter Julie (Bill) Brokaw of Euclid; son Douglas (Peggy) Phillips of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren Jennifer (Andrew) Callison of Richmond, Va., Heather (James) Valentine of Atlanta, Ga., Gregg Brokaw of Chicago, IL. and Tim (Melissa) Brokaw of University Heights; great grandchildren Corinne Callison, Jordyn and Kayla Valentine; sister Jean (Alfred) Lang of Mentor; brother Richard (Sandy) Phillips of Lake Havasu, Az.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; parents Melville and Roseina Phillips.
Contributions may be made to the Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Fla. 32257.

Funeral mass for Irene G. Salay, age 88, of Mentor-on-the-Lake will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday October 11, 2004 at St. Mary of Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Mrs. Salay died Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Hospice House in Cleveland. She was born April 7, 1916 in Cleveland, she lived in Mentor, before moving to Mentor-on-the-Lake three years ago.
Mrs. Salay worked as a secretary for many years in the insurance business and was a case worker for Lake County for 15 years.
She is survived by her sister Ethel Lekutis of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Brother – Winston (Linda) Guy of Chardon. And many nieces and nephews.
Her husband Francis C. Salay, Sister –Evelyn Stanizewski, Brothers – Jack and Edward Guy, and Parents – Edward & Ida Guy are deceased.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Burial in Mentor Cemetery in Mentor.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Hospice House Contributions, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44119.

Funeral service for Earl L. Schalk, age 81, of Willowick will be held 11 a.m. Thursday September 30, 2004 at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Mr. Schalk died Saturday September 25, 2004 at Heather Hill Rehab Hospital. He was born Sept 8, 1923 in Cleveland, Oh., he had lived in Willowick for the past 44 years.
Mr. Schalk worked at Caterpillar in the material control dept. he was a member of the American Legion post #678 in Eastlake. He loved to golf and boat. He was a WWII veteran who received the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the disabled veterans, 8th Air force Historical Society and the Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis of 57 years, daughters Gayle (David) Staller, Terri (Dale) Voss and Robbin (Frank) Sabo-Galeoti. Grandchildren Kellie (Jim) Hamrick, Adam (Kelley) Staller, Eric (Christy) Staller, Hope (Kevin) Marcum, and Julianna and Allyson Sabo. Great grandchildren Shelby, Morgan, Brianna, Ryan, Samantha and Tyler.
He was preceded in death by Parents William and Beulah Schalk and his brother Howard and sisters Arlene and Joyce.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association Northeast Ohio Affiliate Inc. 1689 East 115th St. Cleveland, Oh 44106.
