Memorial service for Deborah J. “Debbie” Douglas, age 57, of Mentor will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday November 26, 2003 at Painesville Assembly of God, 10949 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Painesville.
Mrs. Douglas died Saturday November 22, 2003 at Hospice House in Cleveland, Oh. She was born February 5, 1946 in Hinton, West Virginia, she had lived in Columbus before moving to Mentor 25 years ago.
Mrs. Douglas was an interior designer in the Lake County area for the past 17 years. She was also a member of Assembly of God church in Painesville, the Sunday school teaching staff and choir, loved yard work, studying the bible and was a friend to all.
Survivors include, Husband of 36 years Richard “Dick”, 2 sons Mark A. Douglas of Mentor and Andrew S. (Amy) Douglas of Raleigh, North Carolina. 2 sisters: Anita Smith of Marietta Georgia and Melba (Howard) Messner of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her brother Larry Meador.
Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service 8466 Mentor Ave Mentor.

Funeral mass for James “Jim” N. Saponaro, age 72, of Concord Twp. will be held 12 p.m. Monday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johhnycake Ridge Rd., Concord Twp., Ohio.
Mr. Saponaro died Friday October 3, 2003 at Lake Hospital System in Painesville. He was born October 25, 1930 in Wellsville, Oh., he had lived in Mentor before moving to Concord Twp. 15 years ago.
He was president of Saponaro Inc., prior to that he was in hospital administration at Hillcrest and the Shaker Medical Center. Mr. Saponaro was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a passionate shell, stamp and coin collector as well as outdoorsman, birdwatcher and an avid sports fan. A member of Knights of Columbus and of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Concord Twp., where he made all of the signs for the annual festival.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jean (Sarangelo); children James M. (Karen) Saponaro of Ca., Karen (Bill) Hadden of Mentor, Guy R. (Kelly) Saponaro of Concord Twp. and Joseph M. (Monica) Saponaro of Mayfield Village; grandchildren Jenna, Jessica, Justin, Guy, Tyler, Joey, Christian and Matthew Saponaro; sister Mary Ann (John) Goodchild of Mayfield Heights; survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Guy and Isabelle Saponaro; brother Charles Saponaro.
Family will receive friends 1-3 & 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Interment All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.

Mary A. (Shea) Johnson, age 91, of Chardon formerly of Mentor and Euclid, died Sept. 12, 2011, at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg. She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Ashtabula.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Gabriel Church and had been a former member at St. William Church in Euclid in which she was very active. Her passion was anything Irish. She was a member of the East Side Irish American Club in Euclid, was active with the Geauga Council on Aging Senior Center and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Dennis (Roberta) Johnson of Cincinnati; daughter, Lynn (Mike) Ludvik of Thompson; grandchildren, Amy (Brent) Herb, Ryan and Kevin Ludvik, Jim (Julie) Leon, Kelly Leon and Kathy (Allen) Caldwell; nine great-grandchildren; brother, John (Peggy) Shea of Willoughby; and other loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C.; parents, Harry and Elizabeth Shea; and brother, Harry Shea.
Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Concord Township, OH 44060. (Please meet at church.)

Funeral Mass for Catherine M. "Kay" Schelorke, 76, of Mentor, will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., in Mentor.
Mrs. Schelorke died Oct. 3, 2003, at her residence. She was born June 26, 1927, in the Bronx, N.Y., she lived there before moving to Mentor 11 years ago.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Mentor and was a former girl scout leader. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, and sewing clothes.
Mrs. Schelorke worked as a secretary for St. Joseph's School for the Deaf, retiring in 1989.
Survivors are her husband of 54 years, Joseph F.; children, Mary (Stephen) Martin of Woodbridge, Va., Eileen (David) McGee of Kirtland Hills, and Joseph J. (Beth) Schelorke of Long Island, N.Y.; grandchildren, Francis J. (Christy) McGee, Jennifer A. McGee, and Margaret C. McGee; and nieces, Rose Duarte and Therese Haynes.
Her brother, John Carver; and sisters, Ellen Ulrich and Mary Comerford, are deceased.

Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
Funeral Mass for Frank V. Smerke, 77, of Cleveland, will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1231 Chardon Road, Euclid.
Mr. Smerke died Sept. 27, 2003, at Akron City Hospital, Akron.
Born June 15, 1926, in Cleveland, he lived there for the past 30 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Euclid where he was an usher, president of SNPJ Farms, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and he also loved bowling.
Mr. Smerke was a retired foreman for the former Cleveland Builders in Cleveland.
Survivors are his daughter, Lee Ann (Doug) Metzung of Mentor; son, Frank J. (Jane) Smerke of Mentor; and grandchildren, Katie, Lindsey and Molly Metzung, James and Ryan Smerke. He also leaves his dear friend and companion, Martha Kuhar of Geneva.
His parents, Martin and Antonia Smerke; four sisters and four brothers, are deceased.

Memorial services for Dennis W. Speer, 40, of Mentor, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., in Mentor.
Mr. Speer died Oct. 5, 2003. He was born Oct. 7, 1962, in Painesville.
He enjoyed photography, basketball, golf, and computers. He was also an Ohio State football fan.
Mr. Speer worked as a computer programmer. Previously, he was a math teacher for the Mentor Schools.
Survivors are his parents, Bob and Nancy Speer of Mentor; sister, Susan Speer of Lakewood; brother, Chris Speer of Walnut Creek, Calif.; aunt, Shirley Speer of New Kensington, Pa.; and cousins, Jeff Speer of New Kensington, Pa., Bill (Diane) Speer of Alpena, Mich., and Jeremy and Andrew Speer of Alpena, Mich.
His uncle, Bill Speer; and all grandparents, are deceased.

Funeral mass for Caroline E. Strumbel, age 88, a resident of Mentor will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday October 4, 2003 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Mrs. Strumbel died October 2, 2003 at Gateway Health Care Center in Euclid. She was born March 17, 1915 Cleveland, she had lived Sunrise, Fla and Euclid before moving to Mentor in 1994.
She was a former owner of Strumbel & Radell’s Quality Meats in Grovewood near Euclid Beach in Cleveland. Also a former member of Holy Cross Church in Euclid, St. Bernard’s Church in Sunrise Fla.
Survivors include her daughters Barbara Strumbel of Concord Twp. and Carole (Anthony) Ferritto of Mentor; grandsons Christopher (Jeanee) Ferritto & Brian (Tonya) Ferritto; great-grandchildren Mira & Domenick Ferritto; brother Frank (Rose) Petric of Euclid; sister Stella Zupko of Euclid.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward F. Strumbel; sisters Helen & Ann; brother George.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 8:30 am – 9:00 am at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
