Adrian D. Lanstrum
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - Adrian D. "Pud" Lanstrum, 49, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
Mr. Lanstrum was born Feb. 25, 1953, in Cleveland, the son of George and Caroline (Cochrane) Lanstrum.
He was a machinist for Solon Manufacturing in Chardon for 15 years.
He married Lisa Jackson July 14, 1979, in Chardon.
Mr. Lanstrum enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his garage. He was meticulous about mowing his yard. He also loved his animals, especially his cat, Scoop.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa; two sons, Alan Lanstrum and Craig Lanstrum, both of Hambden Township; and two brothers, George Lanstrum of Chardon Township, and Robert Lanstrum of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 8 p.m. Wednesday at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The Rev. Robert Gaston will officiate.

Mildred E. Boerwinkle
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - Mildred E. (Woodin) Boerwinkle, 96, of Hambden Township, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at the Blossom Hill Care Center, Huntsburg Township, Ohio.
Born January 30, 1907 on the old Woodin Farm, now Holidale Estates, on Chardon-Windsor Road in Hambden Township, she was the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth (Pullin) Woodin.
Mrs. Boerwinkle was a lifelong resident and a descendent of Aaron Woodin, who settled in Hambden Township in 1843, on what is now Woodin Road.
Mildred Woodin married Henry Boerwinkle on February 14, 1928, in the Chardon Christian Church, which is now the Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon, Ohio.
Her early schooling was at a one-room schoolhouse at Lampman’s Corners, at the corner of Claridon-Troy Road and Chardon-Windsor Road, Hambden Township. Mrs. Boerwinkle then attended Hambden Elementary School and was a 1925 graduate of Chardon High School. After graduation, she worked as a deputy auditor in the Geauga County Courthouse. Mrs. Boerwinkle was a homemaker and was happiest when at home with family and friends. She enjoyed flower gardening and was active in the Pilgrim Christian Church, teaching Sunday School for many years and being a member of the Pilgrim Guild.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruth (Donald) Hagen of Columbia Station, Ohio, Doris (John) Verhunce of Anderson, S.C., Carolyn (Douglas) Price of Newbury Township, Ohio, and Judie (Larry) Dowler of Madison, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Seymour Woodin.
Services will be Friday, April 18, at 11 a.m., at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (on Route 44, 200 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), with the Rev. Robert D. Penrod, of the Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon, officiating. Burial will be in the Hambden Cemetery, Hambden Township, Ohio.
The family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roy C. Ernest
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - Roy C. Ernest, 36, of Hambden Township, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
He was born Feb. 7, 1966, in East Cleveland, and had been a lifelong Hambden Township resident.
He was a machinist for Troy Manufacturing in Troy Township for 10 years, and had been under a medical disability since March 1998.
He was a 1984 graduate of Geauga Christian School in Burton Township, and attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla.
An accomplished guitarist and composer, he performed with a worship team for eight years, with Dayspring Fellowship Church in Willoughby.
He enjoyed muscle and classic cars, rebuilding them to perfection. He was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and the faith he found through the AA program, where he was an active member.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ann Ernest Taylor of Hambden Township; children Taylor Michele, Jackson Alexandria and Trenton Cooper Ernest, of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Mimi Damm of Wickliffe; stepsisters Jennifer Ross of Hartsgrove Township, and Beth Thornton of Mooresville, N.C.; and stepbrothers, Darel Taylor of Concord Township, and Steven Taylor of Painesville Township.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert T. Ernest; and his former wife, Michele Domback Ernest.
Service is noon Friday at Word of Faith Church, 351 South Street, Chardon. E. Tom Boytar, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Hambden Cemetery in Hambden Township.

William A. McCoy
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - William A. McCoy, 79, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township.
He was born July 16, 1922, in Dorset Township, the son of Walter B. and Ruth (Rogers) McCoy, and moved to Hambden from Ashtabula 31 years ago.
He worked as a general foreman for Rockwell International, Ashtabula, for 17 years, retiring in 1986. He then drove a bus for the Geauga Transit System for 13 years, retiring in 2000.
Mr. McCoy served in the U.S. Army at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. After his original two-year tour, he re-entered the Army in 1947, serving in a military prison.
He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 943, Ashtabula.
He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, gardening and small engine repair, and liked to fix lawnmowers and give them to friends or people in need. He was a member of bowling leagues in Ashtabula and Chardon for many years. He also recently began to learn and enjoy the computer.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen J. (Starkvick, ) whom he married March 12, 1955, in Ashtabula; four daughters, Carole Paananen of Willoughby, Melodye Nickita of East Claridon, Kimberly Salvatore of Mentor, and Devon McCoy of Claridon Township; two stepsons, James Mason of Columbia Station, and Timothy Mason of Ashtabula; two sisters, Clara Childs of Bainbridge Township, and Mary Ann Havens of Ashtabula; three brothers, David, James and Daniel, all of Ashtabula; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ada McCoy; two brothers, Frank and Walter Jr.; and two granddaughters Jamie Lynn Reynolds and Callie Mason.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The Rev. Robert Gaston, retired chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Hambden Cemetery, Hambden Township, at a later date.

John W. Dryer
HAMBDEN - John William Dryer, 73, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Dryer was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Hambden, the son of Frank and Grace (French) Dryer. He was a lifelong resident of the town.
Before retiring in 1981, he was a truck driver for two Chardon companies. First, he worked for 10 years at Clemson Excavating in Chardon. He later worked 19 years at Haueter Construction Co.
Mr. Dryer was a U.S. Army veteran who served from October 1950 to September 1952. Since his honorable discharge, he was an active member of the VFW Post 6519 in Chardon. He enjoyed walking his black Labrador dog, "Blacky, " gardening and driving.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Tinney of Florida; two sons, Rodney Michael Dryer of Florida and Richard William Dryer of Montville Township; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale of Hambden; and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Services will be 3 p.m. May 26, at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon, with the Rev. E. Thomas Boytar of Faith Church in Chardon officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.

Charles J. Koritansky
HAMBDEN TOWNSHIP - Charles J. Koritansky, 82, of Hambden Township, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Cleveland, the son of Emil and Bertha (Kubat) Koritansky.
He was a lifelong resident of Hambden Township. He was a 1936 graduate of Chardon High School.
Mr. Koritansky went to Canada in 1940 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force to learn to fly and fight in World War II. He achieved the rank of Flight Lieutenant with the Royal Air Force. He was assigned to coastal command in England.
Mr. Koritansky was a B-24 bomber pilot and commanded a squadron of Czech speaking expatriate pilots. He was awarded the Medal of Gallantry by Czech President Eduard Benes.
Mr. Koritansky also received the British Service Ribbon, the British Star, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. In December of 1943, he transferred to the United States Army Air Corps., as a 1st Lt. and remained in the United States Air Force Reserves until 1957. Mr. Koritansky continued to enjoy flying, maintaining his private pilot’s license until 1966.
Mr. Koritansky was a self employed dairy farmer, since 1952.
He married L. Helen (James) on March 27, 1943, in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada.
He was a member of the Hambden School Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Board, Production Credit Board and the Ohio Soil and Water Conservation District Board.
Mr. Koritansky was a 4-H advisor, of the Geauga Dairymen Club and was a former member of the Hambden Grange.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John and Robert Koritansky, both of Hambden Township; four grandchildren, Edie Joyce, Peter, Gale and Tom Koritansky and two great-grandchildren, John and Charles Joyce.
He preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Elmer Koritansky.
Service will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with Mr. Koritansky’s son, John officiating.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
