Carlo E. Palo
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Carlo E. Palo, 77, of Newbury Township, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Holly Hill Nursing Home, Newbury.
He was born May 4, 1923, in Ashtabula's harbor district, the son of Jacob E. and Hilda K. (Hautamaki) Palo, and moved to the Newbury area 22 years ago from Peninsula.
He was a corporal in the Army's airborne infantry during World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations.
A graduate of Harbor High School, he was a former employee of Reliance Electric, Ashtabula. He worked more than 25 years in contract administration for the Department of Defense in Cleveland, retiring in 1986.
He was a trained tenor vocalist, and sang at several northeast Ohio churches and family weddings. He enjoyed reading, vegetable gardening, hiking and mountain climbing, and visited most of the national parks in the west.
Survivors include a long-time companion, Jack Schlundt of Newbury Township; and several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Barris of Conneaut, and Shirley Oxley of North Kingsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elvi Sharpe and Ida Herttua; and two brothers, Eugene and John.
Private funeral services have been held.

Bruno M. Kurapka
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Bruno M. Kurapka, 78, of Newbury Township died June 29, 2002, at Heather Hill Hospital, Munson Township.
He was born July 27, 1923, in Cleveland, the son of Felix and Pauline (Ritmataicy) Kurapka.
Mr. Kurapka was a Newbury resident for 33 years, moving from Avon, Ohio.
He was a research assistant engineer for Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland for 38 years, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Kurapka married Janet Hall on July 11, 1959, in Cleveland.
He enjoyed swimming, gardening and puttering around the house.
Survivors include his wife, of Newbury Township; daughters, Patty Laubenthal of Chardon, Carol Sever of Novelty, Ohio, and Catherine French of Burton; a son, Duane Kurapka of Newbury Township; and grandchildren Ryan, Julia and Steven Laubenthal of Chardon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lillian Kurapka.
A private family service was held on Mr. Kurapka's birthday, July 27, 2002.

Willard F. Blackington
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Willard F. "Blackie" Blackington, 78, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at University Hospitals, Cleveland.
He was born June 26, 1923, in Susquehanna, Pa., the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Lamb) Blackington and been an area resident for 54 years.
He married Rosemarie Davis on Nov. 27, 1947, in Newbury Township.
Mr. Blackington served in the U.S Army as an orthopedic medic with the 23rd General Hospital. He was stationed in Europe and was involved in the liberation of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned the rank of specialist-five
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He served was an instructor for the Ohio Department of Natural Resource's Hunter Safety Course. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends.
Mr. Blackington was a member of the American Legion Post 663 and the Spoon-pluggers of America
Mr. Blackington was a teacher and assistant principal at Newbury High School, and coached six-man football and golf for the Newbury schools. He retired in 1978.
He also served one term as a Newbury Township trustee.
Mr. Blackington was a member and deacon of Newbury Bible Church, and enjoyed reading Christian periodicals and books.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Shefcheck of Jeanette, Pa., and Nancy Sprenger of Toledo; four grandsons, Matthew Sprenger, Kevin Shefcheck, Steven Shefcheck, and Andrew Sprenger; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Sprenger; a brother, Paul, of Forest City, Pa.; and a sister, Esther Holmes of Hornell, N.Y..
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Gerald; and a sister, Esther Weiss.
Service is 10 a.m. Monday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The Rev. Brian Kuzman of Newbury Bible Church will officiate. Burial will be in Munn Cemetery, Newbury Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mary Ann Richardson
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Mary Ann "Roe" Richardson, 62, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, in Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
Mrs. Richardson was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Revloc, Pa., the daughter of John and Mary (Votovich) Robinsky. She married Charles Richardson on June 3, 1961, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
For the past 35 years she lived in Newbury Township after moving from Cleveland.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for Bloom Brothers Supply in Chesterland for 15 years. She retired in March 1999.
Mrs. Richardson was an active member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Newbury Township. She also enjoyed crafts, gardening, cooking, canning and made several afghans for her family members.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Pamela Gray of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Deborah Richardson of Raleigh, N.C., and Carla Richardson of Newbury Township; four grandchildren, AmberLee, Ashley, and Auburn and Donovan Gray.
Her parents and brother, John Robinsky Jr., preceded her in death.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township, with the Rev. Jay McPhillips of the church officiating.
Burial will be Wednesday in Holy Name Cemetery in Ebensburg, Pa.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon and 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, 307 N. Center St., Ebensburg.

Robert M. Hruska
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Robert M. Hruska, 29, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township.
Born April 13, 1972, in Euclid, he was a son of Terence and Marie (Wojtanowski) Hruska.
A lifelong area resident, he was a 1991 Newbury High School graduate. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Hruska enjoyed scuba diving, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, camping and backpacking.
He was a machinist for Atlantic Manufacturing, Mentor for four years, previously working for local machine shops since 1991.
Survivors include his parents; stepfather, John Hart of Newbury Township; two sisters, Lori Wetzel of Burton Township and Dawn Hruska of Newbury Township; a brother, Joe of Newbury Township; his grandmother, Lucille Wojtanowski of Chardon; and two stepbrothers, John and Chadd Mezinger of Newbury Township.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with the Rev. Jay McPhillips of St. Helen’s Church, Newbury Township, officiating. Burial will be in Munn Cemetery, Newbury Township.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Georgia I. McConnell
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Georgia Irene McConnell, 95, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Briar Hill Health Care Residence in Middlefield.
She was born Aug. 13, 1907, in Cleveland, the daughter of Carl E. and Katherine (Blonska) Witty.
She was a longtime volunteer at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital. She married James H. McConnell on June 4, 1932.
Survivors include a daughter, Joanne M. Rudloff of Rockford, Ill.; grandsons Jim, Bill and Tom Rudloff; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1962; and a brother, Vernon R. Witty.
Graveside service is 10 a.m. Friday, at Acacia Cemetery in Mayfield Heights. The deceased's grandson, the Rev. Bill Rudloff, will officiate.
No calling hours will be observed.
