Anna Marie Cozzens
Anna Marie Welch Cozzens, 87, of Fleming, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at the Marietta Health and Rehab Center.
She was born June 14, 1916, in Cutler.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Ganson and Charles Lee Cozzens; and four daughters, Janet Goddard, Lela Richard, Penny Dalton, and Carolyn Sue Owens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Cozzens.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stone Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill.
Burial was in Bartlett Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Township Volunteer Fire Department, Bartlett, OH 45713.

Edgar A. ‘Eck’ Thomas
Edgar A. “Eck” Thomas, 65, of Crooksville, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at his home.
He was born April 17, 1938, in Rose Farm, a son of the late Clifford “Kip” and Blanche Click Thomas.
Mr. Thomas retired as a crusher operator for Ohio Ferro Alloy and worked at Peach's Place in Crooksville. He was a member of VFW Post 9090, Eagles Lodge 1979, and American Legion Post 222 in Crooksville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking and was an avid Ohio State football fan.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Connie Dorsey Thomas of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny R. and Lori Thomas of Crooksville; four grandchildren, JoAnn, Danny Jr., Kasey, and Whitney Thomas; his mother-in-law, Maxine L. Hinkle; an aunt and uncle; and several nieces and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Darrell Thomas; a son, Michael Allen Thomas; and a father-in-law, Robert L. Hinkle.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Goebel Funeral Home in Crooksville, with Pastor Larry Penrod officiating.
Burial was in Rehoboth Cemetery, New Lexington.
Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice of Zanesville.

Mary Ann Propst
Mary Ann Propst, 47, of Zanesville, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Adams Lane Care Center.
She was born Dec. 5, 1955, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late and Rhoda A. Tipton Mason.
Mrs. Propst was a nurses aide with the Muskingum County Home and attended Living Word Assembly of God.
She is survived by her husband, Fred of Zanesville; step-son, Morgan Propst of Malta; step-daughters, Misty Brown of Cleveland and Brenda Propst of Chesterhill; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Harriette and Roger McHenry of Jacksonville, FL, Christine and William Harlan of Duncan Falls, Nellie Tuttle of Zanesville, Bernice and Charles Mollahan of McConnelsville and Angie and William Williams of Blue Rock; three brothers, Isaac and Patricia Mason of Blacklick, Richard and Susan Mason of Zanesville and Ira and Deborah Mason Jr. of Blue Rock; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ira L. Mason, who died Sept. 18, 1989; and a brother, Johny Mason.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Thompson-Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls with Rev. Floyd Loy officiating.
Burial was in Duncan Falls Cemetery.

Elsie M. Storer
Elsie M. Storer, 72, of Leesburg, IN, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, from complications of bone cancer.
She was born April 18, 1931, in Ohio, to Bill and Lura Roberts.
Mrs. Storer had been living with her daughter in Indiana for the last three years.
She is survived by one son, Wally Wallace of Malta; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannine and Jim Close of Leesburg, IN; six grandchildren, Janet Williams, Jamie and Jeremy Napier, Amber Wallace, Lura Wallace, and Silas Wallace; four great-grandchildren, Jace Williams, Romeo Wallace, Aidyn Gable, and Jeremy Napier II; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill Roberts, Ronnie Roberts, and Rick and Carol Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Storer; one brother, James “Oop” Roberts; and two sisters, Ruth Roberts Cameron and Lula Roberts Beverlon.
Funeral service is pending at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles ‘Wes’ Ponchak
Charles W. “Wes” Ponchak, 80, 8848 Rokeby Circle, McConnelsville, died at 8:52 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.
He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Meigsville Township, near McConnelsville, a son of the late Mike and Anna Gunto Ponchak.
Mr. Ponchak was a World War II Army Aircorps ground forces veteran and former plant manager for Associated Electric Co-Op in New Madrid, MO. He was a Presbyterian by faith and was a life member of American Legion Post 24 in McConnelsville, VFW Post 4713 in Malta. He was past master of Clemite Amitie Lodge 285 in Reinersville, past patron of old Reinersville Chapter 397 OES, and a member of Valley OES 19 of McConnelsville.
He is survived by his widow, Lois Gessel Ponchak of McConnelsville, whom he married March 22, 1944; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Richard and Deby Ponchak of Montrose, CO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra J. and David Weaver of Cumberland and Brenda and Larry Carrel of McConnelsville; one brother, George William Ponchak of McConnelsville; two sisters, Sarah Silvus of Hackney and Susie Fain of Poland, OH; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one step-great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Carlos “Andy” Ponchak; and three sisters, Mary Johnson, Eva Deal, and Anna Moore.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville, with Masonic Services at 8:30 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. Gordon Myers officiating.
Burial with veteran graveside service will follow at McConnelsville Cemetery.

Pastor Emmitt Filkins
Pastor Emmitt L. Filkins, 64, of Somerset, died late Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at his home.
He was born April 28, 1939, in Crooksville, a son of the late Russell and Ines Brown Filkins.
Pastor Filkins was a lifelong resident of Perry County. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years and had pastored churches in Crooksville, Powhatan Point and for the last two years, the Pentecostal Church of Christ in Zanesville. He was a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.
He is survived by his widow, Janice Garretson Filkins of the home; four sons, Emmitt Filkins of Newark, Nathan Filkins of Deavertown, Eric Filkins of Charleston, WV, and Bryan Filkins of Somerset; a daughter, Kimberly Thomas of San Jose, CA; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Robert Filkins of Zanesville and Thomas Filkins of Houston, TX; two sisters, Lucille Martindale of Roseville and Frances Baker of Pinkneyville, IL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wycinski.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pentecostal Church of Christ with Suffragan Bishop Frank McDonald eulogizing.
Burial was in Mount Horeb Cemetery.
William Thompson & Son Funeral Home in White Cottage was in charge of arrangements.

James O. Whitehouse
James O. Whitehouse, 80, of 874 West Richards Lane N.W., McConnelsville, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at his home.
He was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Morgan County, a son of the late Robert Dewitt and Lucy Roberts Whitehouse.
Mr. Whitehouse was retired from Whitehouse Insurance Agency of McConnelsville, where he was an insurance agent for 45 years. He was a 1941 graduate of Malta-McConnelsville High School. He was an Army-Air Force veteran of World War II, where he served for four years. He then worked for several years at the A.A. Coulson and Community Store. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Morgan County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge and the Valley Lodge 145, Free and Accepted Masons, of Malta.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Greuey Whitehouse; one daughter, Kimberly Hanson of McConnelsville; one son, Brent Whitehouse of McConnelsville; and three grandchildren, Jeremy Foster, Cheyenne Hanson, and Colton Hanson, all of McConnelsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nona McCoy and Betty Whitehouse; and three brothers, Lewis, Forrest, and Fred Whitehouse.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in McConnelsville with Rev. Gordon Myers and Rev. David Vensel officiating.
Burial was in McConnelsville Cemetery where military rites were conducted by the Morgan County Veterans Group.
Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville was in charge of arrangements.
