Clarence E. Berghauser
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP - Clarence "Corky" E. Berghauser, 56, died Nov. 23, 2000 at Geauga Regional Hospital.
The son of Clarence C. and Dorothy (Stark) Berghauser, he was born Feb. 8, 1944 in Cleveland.
Mr. Berghauser enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the Newbury Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Survivors include one son, Joshua of Fort Polk, La.; one sister, Carolyn Ward of Newbury Township; and close friend, Gail Scerbovsky.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon Village, with the Rev. Shirley Greenslade, of Agape Word and Worship Center, Burton. Burial will be in Newbury Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Thomas Edward Bird
MESA, Ariz. - Thomas Edward Bird, 32, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000.
Born July 23, 1968, in Claridon Township, he was the son of Bruce and Sheila Bird.
Mr. Bird attended Maple Elementary School, Chardon; Geauga Christian School, Burton Township; and Howe Military Academy, Howe, Ind.
He attended Chardon Assembly of God Church. In his youth, Mr. Bird was active in the Boy Scouts and Little League.
Survivors include his parents of Novelty; three brothers, Robert of Largo, Fla., Peter of Scottsdale, Ariz., and James of Ravenna; a sister, Amanda Bird-Bosler of Burton; and grandmothers Elizabeth Line of Mesa, Ariz. and Helen Bird of Chagrin Falls.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers Lloyd W. Line Jr. and James Raymond Bird II; and great-grandparents Lloyd and Martha Line and Peter and Elizabeth Orr.
Private family services were held, with the Rev. Larry Winchester of Grace Ministry in Mesa, officiating.

Esther V. Nelson
CHARDON - Esther V. Nelson, 87, of North Hambden Road, died Oct. 10, 2002, at Burton Health Care Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Orange County, to Hugo A. and Blenda (Sandberg) Hallstrom.
Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of Brush High School in South Euclid. She married Henry J. Nelson on June 30, 1934.
Mrs. Nelson along with her husband established Lakewood Drive and built many of its homes. They also built and operated the Andover Car Wash.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Hambden Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at Chesterland Baptist Church. She also attended Riverview Church in Novelty. She played the piano for many churches and nursing homes.
Mrs. Nelson was employed by The Care Corp. of Chardon. She was a member of the Chit Chat Club.
Survivors include daughter Ardean Baumgardner of Kinsman; two sons Lloyd Nelson of Cuyahoga Falls and Eric and Nelson of Burton; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Donald Nelson; three brothers Nels Eric, Howard and Kenneth Hallstrom.
Funeral will be Oct. 13, 4 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, with Rev. Thomas E. Boytar officiating.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, 2 p.m. until the time of services.
Burial will take place Monday in White Haven Memorial Park, Mayfield Heights.

Alma Harrington
CHARDON - Alma (Morrow) Harrington, 90, of Chardon, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
She was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Cleveland, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Shadley) Morrow, and spent the past six years in Chardon. Previously, she lived in Mayfield Heights.
A 1932 graduate of Collinwood High School, she worked 15 years as a cashier at the former Uncle Bill's store in Mayfield Heights, retiring in 1985. Earlier, she worked for the former Harding-Williams Co., managing the cafeterias at Eaton Corp., TRW and The Plain Dealer.
She married John E. Harrington in March 1933 in Cleveland.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and the piano, and gave piano lessons for many years.
Survivors include a son, John Harrington of Newbury Township; a daughter, Joan Spangenberg of Chardon; six grandchildren, Linda Bowyer, Dale Spangenberg, Karen Stone, Sue Buck, Kimberly Martinez and John Harrington; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1975; two brothers, Carl and Floyd Morrow; and a sister, Gladys Springer.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Betty J. Johnson
CHARDON - Betty Jean Johnson, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at her home in Chardon.
She was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Bedford, the daughter of George and Olive (Patterson) Fouts and had lived in Chardon for four years, coming from Cleveland.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and dancing. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Dennison Chapter, Cleveland.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Rath of New Palestine, Ill., and Nancy Ostovic of Chardon; four grandchildren, Tiffany Hardy, Shelly Rath, Derrak Ostovic and Mindy Ostovic; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; and a sister, Mary Jean Berger.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Henry Woodruff officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, Brooklyn Heights.
Friends will be received immediately following the service at the church.

Mary E. Zeit
CHARDON - Mary Ellen Zeit, 68, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at her home.
She was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Wheeling, W.Va., the daughter of Bernard and Berenice (Watt) Burkle.
Mrs. Zeit was a certified registered nurse anesthetist for Hillcrest Hospital in Cleveland for 23 years. She received her BSN from St. John’s College in Cleveland and CRNA from The Ohio State University in Columbus.
She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for family and friends. Mrs. Zeit was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
Survivors include her husband, Paul R. Zeit, whom she married June 22, 1968, in Cleveland; daughter, Mary Zeit Cornely of Cleveland; three sons, Paul H. Zeit of Russell Township, John H. Zeit of Kent and Thomas P. Zeit of Cincinnati; three sisters, Joan Kelly, Berenice Burkle of Wheeling, W.Va., and Nancy Callan of Madison, N.J.; brother, Bernard Burkle of Newell, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Kate Leighliter of Brunswick, Ga., Jennifer and Brian Zeit of Russell Township, and Martha and Jonathan Zeit of Kent; and great-grandson, Ross Leighliter of Brunswick, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sally Zeit Stickle.
Service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Calling hours will be 4:40 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township, at a later date.

Helen Biacofsky
CHARDON - Helen Biacofsky, 93, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Briar Hill Nursing Home, Middlefield.
She was born Jan. 12, 1908, in Fairchance, Pa., a daughter of Frank and Mary (Hoolak) Yanic. She married Colman Biacofsky in Pennsylvania on May 5, 1936.
A Chardon resident for 11 years, Mrs. Biacofsky moved there from Hambden and Cleveland.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed baking and raising cocker spaniels.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Shimko of Brookpark; a son, William of Willowick; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert; a grandson, James Biacofsky; four brothers; and three sisters.
Service is 1 p.m. Thursday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with the Rev. Tom Gilles of the Church of St. Mary, Chardon, officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
