Bruce R. Rein
CHARDON TOWNSHIP - Bruce R. Rein Sr., 62, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
He was born April 10, 1939, in East Cleveland, the son of Harry and Dorothy (Perkins) Rein.
Mr. Rein was a lifelong Chardon area resident and was a tool and die maker.
He worked for Reliance Electric for 26 years. He retired from ID Tool in 1995.
Mr. Rein married Connie J. (McElwain) on July 16, 1960 at Burton Assembly of God Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a signalman on the U.S.S. Forrest B. Royal from 1957 until 1960.
Mr. Rein enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, was an avid golfer and was an excellent trap shooter.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; two sons, Bruce R. Rein Jr. of Perry Township, and Robert L. Rein of Chardon; his daughter, Sandra L. Gallagher of Canton; grandchildren, Robert Jr., Scott, Alyssa, Daniel, Alyson, Jacob and Mackenzie; two brothers, John J. Rein Sr. and Terry Rein Sr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harry "Bud" Jr. and Robert.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Friday at the Chardon Assembly of God at the corner of Center Street and Main Street in Chardon, with the Rev. William L. Mullet of the church officiating.
Burial will be in the Western Reserve Memorial Garden, Chester Township.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

Gary R. Sass
CHARDON TOWNSHIP - Gary R. Sass, 57, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
He was born Dec. 13, 1944, in Clearfield, Pa., the son of John S. (Sr.) and Jane E. Sass. He was a 1962 graduate of Clearfield High School.
Mr. Sass had worked as a welder at Lincoln Electric in Cleveland since 1969.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Pleasant Hill Golf Course in Claridon Township, where he also worked as a starter, ranger and handyman, as necessary. Even his wife took up the sport so they could play together.
He was a member of the Chardon United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2261, Chardon.
Survivors include his wife, Judith (Showden), whom he married May 16, 1964, in Clearfield, Pa.; a son, David K., of Chardon Township; two daughters, Joan Ransdell of Akron and Diane Sass of Painesville; two grandsons, Anthony and Alex Sass; his mother, Jane Sass, of Curwensville, Pa.; four brothers, William of Madison Township, John S. (Jr.) of Curwensville, James of Lawton, Okla., and Robert of Drums, Pa.; and a sister, Mary Ann Condon of Mount Joy, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Service will be 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with The Rev. Dr. Henry F. Woodruff of the Chardon United Methodist Church officiating.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Henry C. Stephan
CHARDON - Henry Carl Stephan, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at his home.
He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Cleveland, the son of Adam and Pauline (Sellhof) Stephan. At age 2, he moved to Germany with his family and returned to Cleveland with his parents in 1946.
He married Anna E. Blattner Nov. 26, 1952, in Cleveland. They had lived in Chardon since 1953.
Mr. Stephan built his home in Chardon from a kit purchased through the Sears catalog. That experience encouraged him to start his own home-building business. In 1956, he started his own company, Henry C. Stephan Builders-Contractors in Chardon.
His wife worked with him, helping to manage the business. He built many homes until a disability in 1985 prevented him from continuing the business.
He previously had worked at the W.S. Tyler Elevator Co. in Cleveland.
He enjoyed stamp collecting, history and reading.
Survivors include his two daughters, Karin Wisniewski of Hambden Township, and Rosemarie Stephan of Chardon; three grandchildren, Krystal Phillips of Ravenna, Katina Mellon of Cuyahoga Falls, and Spencer Stephan of Chardon; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dec. 1, 2001; his parents; and a sister, Karin Stephan.
No service will be observed.

Eleanor V. Kerr
CHARDON - Eleanor V. (Prykan) Kerr, 75, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Hospice House of Cleveland. She was born Dec. 19, 1926, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Morsztyn) Prykan.
Mrs. Kerr lived in Chardon for the past five years and previously lived in Burton Village.
She married David L. Kerr July 3, 1947 in Cleveland.
She was a homemaker and volunteered at Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
Survivors include two daughters; Debra Marth of the International School in Saudi Arabia and Lorna Kerr of Cleveland, two sons; Mark Kerr of Helena, Mont. and Brad Kerr of San Diego; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oct. 13, 1996 and her parents.
Private Family Services were held. Burial was in Welton Cemetery in Burton Village.
Arrangements were handled by the Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 116 South St., P.O. Box 165, Chardon.

Leonard A. Rucinski
CHARDON - Leonard "Leo" Anton Rucinski, 81, died Monday, May 6, 2002, in Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
He was born Jan. 5, 1921, to Anton and Teofila (Duszenski) Rucinski. He lived in the area since 1981, formerly residing in Cleveland.
Mr. Rucinski was a 1939 graduate of South High School in Cleveland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a cook in the European Theater. He married Marie Louise Gainard in France April 26, 1947.
He was a metal fittings inspector in the landing gear division of Cleveland Pneumatic Tool Co. for 21 years, retiring in January 1986. He was also employed as a security guard for National City Band and St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland.
Survivors include his wife; son Richard Rucinski of Montville; and grandsons Richard Jr. and Nathaniel Rucinski, both of Montville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Walter and Edward; sisters Edna Bulkoski, Mary Rucinski and "Stella" Schuflada Schaeffer; and an infant girl.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South Street, Chardon, officiated by The Rev. Thomas C. Gilles of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chardon.
Cremation will follow the funeral service with burial of the cremated remains at a later date.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary V. Cada
CHARDON TOWNSHIP Mary V. Cada, 91, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Chardon Center Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Chardon Township, the daughter of Frank and Mary Veverka and was a lifelong Chardon area resident.
Mrs. Cada was a homemaker and had worked as an assembler at the former API products in Chester Township from 1960 to 1970.
She married James Cada on Aug. 28, 1937, in Ripley N.Y.
Mrs. Cada attended Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon. She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6519 Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2261 Auxiliary.
She was a member of the Geauga County Senior Citizens, enjoyed taking care of her home, playing card games, was a Girl Scout leader when her daughter was young and worked in food service for Kirtland High School.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Stange of Chardon Township; two grandchildren, John S. Stange of Painesville, and Victoria Ruple of Willoughby Hills; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1956; two sisters, Mollie Bolek and Rose Spiel; and five brothers, Frank, Joseph, John, Charles and James Veverka.
Graveside service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chardon Municipal Cemetery, Park Avenue, with the Rev. Robert D. Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church officiating.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. A VFW service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
