Helen K. Williams
CHARDON TOWNSHIP - Helen K. Williams, 83, of Chardon Township, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the Holly Hill Nursing Home, Newbury Township.
She was born May 3, 1919, in Cleveland, the daughter of William and Mary (Goblowitz) Barker.
Mrs. Williams had lived in Chardon Township for three years and was formerly of Cleveland.
She married Mathew Williams May 6, 1938, in Cleveland, and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Williams was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She was a longtime volunteer at the West Side Catholic Center in Cleveland, devoting much time to families in need. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Mathew, of Chardon Township; three daughters, Marie Vonderau of Poca, W.Va., Karen Blaha of Chardon Township, and Susan Williams of California; seven grandchildren, Mathew Vonderau of Brooklyn, Peter Vonderau of Parma, Dale Vonderau of Cleveland, Dennis Vonderau of Poca, W.Va., Jeff Vonderau of Cleveland, Jason Vonderau of Hurricane, W.Va., and Danielle Blaha of Chardon Township; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marie Muro; and three brothers, Earl, James and William Barker.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday at the Church of St. Mary, 400 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Greg Schaut of the church officiating.
Private burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
Calling hour will be from 6 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. Private burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.

Mary E. Henkel
CHARDON - Mary E. Henkel, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Meridia Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.
She was born Aug. 4, 1915, in Sagamore, Pa., the daughter of Karol and Mary (Kovalchick) Horvat, and moved to Chardon from Greensburg, Pa., two years ago.
She was rectory manager for her brother, the Rev. Andrew Horvat, in the Greensburg Diocese from 1958 until both retired in 1979. Previously, she taught elementary students in the Pittsburgh Catholic schools for 10 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Chardon and former member of St. Paul's Church in Greensburg. She was a volunteer at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Greensburg and active at the Geauga Senior Center in Chardon.
She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, making pierogies and caring for her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews when they were young.
Survivors include two brothers: the Rev. Andrew Horvat of Chardon and George Horvat of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and sisters: Helen Manrowich of Warren, Pa., and Ethel Pikus of Munson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stephen, in 1972; brothers: Stephen, Charles and Joseph; and a sister, Elizabeth Kaleina.
A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, 401 North St., Chardon. The Rev. Gregory F. Schaut, associate pastor of St. Mary's, will officiate. Burial will be at Iselin Union Cemetery in Young Township, Pa.
There will be no calling hours.

Joseph Ritrovato
CHARDON - Joseph Ritrovato, M.D., 79, of Chardon, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Chardon Healthcare.
He was born June 7, 1923, in Licata, Agrigento, Italy, the son of Antonino and Carmela (Davanteri) Ritrovato.
Dr. Ritrovato was an intern at the former Doctors Hospital and Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, and an emergency room physician at Marymount Hospital in Cleveland since the late 1950s. He was also on the staff at Hillcrest Hospital and had a private practice in Willoughby and Novelty. He was appointed hospital research associate of Doctors Hospital Cancer Research Center, specializing in leukemia. He was also medical adviser to the first graduating paramedic class, in Cleveland, in July 1978.
Dr. Ritrovato graduated magna cum laude from the University of Palermo, Italy, in 1951, and served with the Italian Medical Corps from 1951 to 1953. He came to the United States in 1954.
He served in the medical field until his retirement in 1987.
He enjoyed collecting cookbooks and wines, and was a wine connoisseur and gourmet cook. He also was very interested in history of the American Indians and was well-read.
Survivors include his wife, of Chardon, the former Vida Moseley, whom he married Jan. 11, 1975, in Novelty; a son, Maurizio Ritrovato of Cleveland Heights; two stepsons, Michael Hirsch of Chesterland, and Daniel Hirsch of Clarendon, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Sharon Dunbar of Chardon Township, Judith Brennan of Southfield, Mich., and Laurel Dunbar of Willowick; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Giovanni and Pietro Ritrovato.
The funeral is 8 p.m. Sunday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Calling hours are Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Chardon Municipal Cemetery.

Thelma L. Bergoch
CHARDON - Thelma L. Bergoch, 82, of Chardon died Friday, May 31, 2002, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
She was born June 11, 1919 in Munson Township, the daughter of Crawford and Eva (Jones) LaMoreaux.
Mrs. Bergoch had been a lifelong area resident.
She was a secretary to the superintendents of Chardon Local Schools, for 25 years serving six superintendents, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Bergoch married Clyde S. Rarick Jr., on June 21, 1941, in her parents’ home in Chardon. He preceded her in death June 1975.
She then married Ray Bergoch on July 31, 1982. He preceded her in death June 1987.
Mrs. Bergoch attended Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon for many years. She worked for 30 years aT the Treasurer’s Office of the Great Geauga County Fair, Burton.
During the 1950s, she was a substitute mail carrier for six years at the Chardon Post Office.
Mrs. Bergoch volunteered on the Geauga County Maple Festival Board since 1975, at Maple Elementary School since 1987, and at the Chardon Municipal Court since 1990.
She was a charter member of the Aquarius Club and Progress Research, both in Chardon.
Mrs. Bergoch enjoyed traveling and bowled at Ernst Lanes for many years and enjoyed being with and around people.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Tincher of Chardon; a grandson, Jeff Tincher of Philadelphia and dear friend, Bob Eldridge of Chardon.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; a granddaughter, Jennifer Tincher; her parents.
Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with the Rev. Robert D. Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon officiating.
Burial will be in Chardon Municipal Cemetery, Chardon.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Grace V. Derus
CHARDON - Grace Victoria (Jarosz) Derus, 81, of Chardon, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Chardon Healthcare Center.
She was born April 15, 1920, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Stanley and Helen (Kulczyk) Jarosz.
Mrs. Derus was a homemaker and married Benedict B. Derus on Nov. 20, 1941, in Buffalo.
She was active with the St. Mary's Fifty-Plus Group.
Mrs. Derus was a gracious hostess and a friend to many, according to her family.
Survivors include her son, David L. Derus of West Los Angeles, Calif.; daughters, Jeannette Diane Baker of Mayfield Heights, Marilyn Harwood of Chester Township, and Monica Tracy of Miami Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Amanda Harwood Wilcox, Joseph Harwood, Sarah Harwood, David J. Derus and a sister, Irene Waddell of Alexandria, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benedict, who died Jan. 6, 1985; her parents and a brother, Eugene Jarosz.
Services will be 10 a.m., Friday at the Church of St. Mary, 400 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Tom Giles of the church officiating.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.

Magdalena Bosnar
CHARDON TOWNSHIP - Magdalena Bosnar, 87, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 17, 1914, in Trosmarija (Gornje, Dubrave) in Croatia, the daughter of Milan and Katarina (Cvetovac) Liposcak.
Mrs. Bosnar came to the United States in 1961 and lived in Cleveland Heights for 22 years before moving to Chardon Township in February 2001.
She had been an oriental rug repair specialist from age 18, until two months ago.
Mrs. Bosnar had her own shop in Croatia and later worked for the former Sterling Linder, Cleveland.
She remained self-employed with some of her clients including New York Department of Textiles, Cleveland Museum of Art, and The Rockefeller Estate.
Mrs. Bosnar was an athlete in the Pre-Olympic Gymnastic Trials at Prague in 1938. Although she did not compete in the Olympics, gymnastics remained a great joy.
She also enjoyed gardening.
Mrs. Bosnar was a member of St. Mary's Church, Chardon, and a former member of St. Paul Croatian Church, East 40th Street, Cleveland.
Survivors include her son, Leonardo of Chardon Township; a granddaughter, Maia Bosnar of Cleveland Heights; and a sister, Nada Liposcak of Chardon Township.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and four sisters.
Service is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, 401 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Thomas C. Gilles officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
