Edward J. Sorrell
Edward J. Sorrell, 92, of Zanesville, died at 8:22 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Bethesda Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1911, in Glouster, a son of the late Bert and Martha Williams Sorrell.
Mr. Sorrell retired in 1976 as a maintenance supervisor in the machine shop at Brockway Glass Co. after 44 years of service. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge of Amity Lodge 5 F&AM, Rosa Shrine 8, Y Bridge Holiday Ramblers 333, and the Brockway Glass Camping Club.
He is survived by his widow, Evelyn Best Sorrell of the home, whom he married July 22, 1933; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marguerite Smith, Cathryn Angle, and Maxine Jackson.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the Bolin Funeral Home in Zanesville, with Dr. Dennis Baker officiating.
Burial was in Zanesville Memorial Park.
Elizabeth K. Willis
Elizabeth K. Willis, 93, of Chauncey, died on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Pine Hills Continuing Care Center, Nelsonville.
She was born April 14, 1910, in Perry County, a daughter of the late John and Susie Bertok Kaszonyi.
Mrs. Willis was the wife of the late Clarence Willis. She retired from Athens Mental Health Center after 25 years of service. She was a member of Millfield Christian Church and Athens Senior Center.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Veda Willis of Baltimore, OH; two grandsons, Eddie (Theresa) Willis and Michael (Randy) Willis, both of Millersport; seven great-grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Rhodes of Lancaster, Melinda, Mike, Phillip, Jeremy, Seth and Matthew Willis, all of Millersport; and a great-great-grandson, Anthony Willis.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Alex Kaszonyi.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville, with Rev. Steve Bentley officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Gregory L. Armstrong
Gregory Lee Armstrong, 48, of Zanesville, died at 10:37 a.m. Monday Nov. 24, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room, after a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 29, 1955, in Zanesville, a son of Lester Armstrong Jr. of McConnelsville and the late Ramonda Nethers Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong was a bottle maker for Owens-Brockway and was a member of Moose Lodge 867. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, boating and golf. He was an organ donor.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his step-mother, Denise Armstrong of McConnelsville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Adam Armstrong of New Concord and Ryan and Chris Ann Armstrong of Fayetteville, NC, who is serving in the military overseas; three grandchildren, Madison Stinehoff, Breven Haser, and Isaiah Armstrong; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lester Alan and Karen Armstrong and Jeffrey Linn and Lisa Armstrong, and Mark Armstrong, all of Zanesville, and Mike Armstrong (Debbie Anderson) of Newark; a sister, Leista Lang of Zanesville; a step-sister, Nicole Petti of McConnelsville; and his fiancee, Valinda Snelling of Zanesville; and his grandmother, Leola Coen of Zanesville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, and many friends.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lester Arthur Armstrong.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryan Funeral home in Zanesville with Pastor Keith Lingsch officiating.
Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Amsterdam.
The Armstrong family has entrusted Bryan Funeral Home 2318 Maple Ave. to handle arrangements.
Patty M. Shifflet
Patty M. McCune Shifflet, 55, of Warner Robins, GA, formerly of Glouster, died on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at her home in Georgia.
She was born Dec. 22, 1947, in Athens County, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Mary Keirns McCune.
Mrs. Shifflet was a charter member of the auxiliary of Jacksonville Eagles Aerie 1034 and Centerville Senior Citizens in Georgia.
She is survived by her husband, Wendell Shifflet of Warner Robins, GA, formerly of Glouster; two sons, Terry and Corey Shifflet, both of Glouster; two daughters and a son-in-law, Angela Strock and Annissa and John Malone Malone, all of Glouster; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Katie and Kaleb Strock, T.J. and Amanda Shifflet, and Stephanie and Kristalyn Malone; three brothers, Jerry, Roger, and Joe McCune, all of Millfield; three sisters, Marian Reazor of Florida, Bonnie Shifflet of Glouster, and Ruth Ann Russell of Millfield; two special Nanna’s girls, Jaime and Megan Dillon; and a special niece, Rochelle Dillon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herschel Shifflet, and two sisters, Mary Jane McCune and Wilma Jackson.
A gathering of family and friends was held Saturday at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Lucinda Kay Tolliver
Lucinda Kay Tolliver, 54, of Zanesville, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, following a short illness.
She was born June 5, 1949, in Chesterhill, a daughter of the late Gerald Dempster Mayle and Hettie Ann Stires Mayle.
Mrs. Tolliver retired as a day care provider for the Muskingum County Department of Human Services, following 20 years of service.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar J. Tolliver; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Erin Fowler of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Brian, Brittany, Kaitlynn and Kamerin Fowler; three sisters, Rosa Dalton of Chesterhill, and Linda Hampton and Mary Fowler, both of Zanesville; one brother, Marion Henry Mayle of Chesterhill; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Hill, Esther Norris, and Wanda Morgan; and four brothers, Wilbert “Jack” Mayle, Vernon “Hunk” Mayle, Clarence “Dee” Mayle, and Chester Mayle.
Funeral service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hillis and Hardwick Funeral Home in Zanesville with Rev. Terry F. Newman officiating.
Willmore Don Goins
Willmore Don Goins, 83, of Amesville, died at 2:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his residence.
He was born April 20, 1920, in Sharpsburg, a son of the late Sherman and Olive Mayle Goins.
Mr. Goins was a retired construction worker and minister and was a member of Olive Chapel Church at Amesville. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his widow, Lorene Stills Goins; one son, Bruce M. Goins of Phoenix, AZ; five daughters, Donna Ware of Stockbridge, GA, Faye Files of Xenia, Lorraine Jordan of Lancaster, Victoria Newsome of Wilmington, and Jane Goins of Cincinnati; one brother, Hayward Goins of Malta; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Lyle, George, Dean, Lovell and Carlos Goins; four young brothers and sisters; and two half-brothers.
Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday in Olive Chapel Cemetery near Chesterhill.
Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill was in charge of arrangements.
Thelma P. Graham
Thelma P. Cox Graham, 94, of Bartlett died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Harmar Place in Marietta.
She was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Trimble, a daughter of the late William C. and Stella Cline Cox.
Mrs. Graham was a homemaker and a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church, Waterford Grange, and Marietta Chapter 59, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sons, Richard and Patty Graham of Vincent and Gary and Becky Graham of Barlow; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet and Gary Fortney, Beverly (Mike Elkins) Williams and Helen and Chuck Bailey, all of Bartlett; one brother and sister-in-law, Elbert J. and Shirley Cox of Marietta; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger G. Graham, March 25, 1993; one brother, William Cox; one sister, Florence Chesser; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with Pastor Helen Cline officiating.
Burial is in Bartlett Cemetery.
