Janice Louise Lucht
MIDDLEFIELD - Janice Louise Lucht, 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Simeon and Josephine (Bowles) Shepard, and had lived in the area 59 years.
A graduate of Aspinwall High School in Pittsburgh, she worked 22 years for Schnieder's Department Store in Middlefield.
She was a member of Burton Congregational Church the past five years, and was a 53-year member of First United Methodist Church in Middlefield, where she was active with the Mary Martha Women's Circle, the Methodist Women and the Thift Shop. She also served as Sunday school secretary.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Robert, to whom she had been married 59 years; two daughters: Deanna Siracki of Parkman and Marcia Stanton of Burton; two brothers: James Shepard of Pittsburgh and Thomas Shephard of DeLand, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Margaret; and a brother, William.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Burton Congregational Church, Burton. Harry Buch, church pastor, will officiate. Private family burial will be held at Middlefield Cemetery.

Marnette C. Warne
MIDDLEFIELD - Marnette C. Warne, 70, 15809 Kenwood Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1930, in Cleveland, the daughter of Glade and Mildred (Clark) Cook. She had lived in the Middlefield area the past 53 years.
She was mortgage lending officer at Middlefield Bank, and - with her husband, Richard - was co-owner of Warne's Five and Ten for more than 30 years. The couple sold the business in 1985.
She married Richard Warne Sept. 5, 1953.
She was a member of Middlefield Zoning Board and was a member of the Girl Scout Council's downtown Cleveland chapter. She had been a Girl Scout leader for 12 years.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed pinochle and golf.
Survivors include daughters: Karen Gates of Parkman and Theresa Harman of Bemus Point, N.Y.; brothers: Bruce Cook of Orwell and Lou Cook of Perry; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, in 1993.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 14999 S. State Ave., Middlefield. William Norman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery.

Pete M. Hostetler
MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP - Pete M. Hostetler, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 6, 1915, in Middlefield, he was the son of Menno and Fannie (Barkman) Hostetler. He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Hostetler was a farmer and a member of Old Order Amish Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Gingerich) Hostetler; two sons: Dan and Pete, both of Middlefield; four daughters: Iva Byler, Sarah Schrock, and Linda Hostetler, all of Middlefield, and Ann Gingerich of Arthur, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; two sisters; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Service is 9 a.m. Saturday at 15500 Shedd Road, Middlefield. Roman Mullet, bishop, will officiate. Burial will be at Yoder Cemetery, Parkman Township.
Calling hours will be anytime at the residence.

Kauko Kiviniemi
MIDDLEFIELD - Kauko (Kay) Gunnar Kiviniemi, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002.
He was born March 12, 1915, in Warren, to Einar Matias Kiviniemi and Senia Lydia Salminen, both of Finland. He married Ruth Eleanor Mullola May 30, 1942.
Mr. Kiviniemi retired as a die maker from Johnson Rubber Company March 28, 1980, after 37 years of service.
He was a retired member of the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department and an avid boater and fisherman. His favorite pastime was attending flea markets and auctions and tinkering around in his garage. He was a jack-of-all-trades to all his friends and relatives.
Mr. Kiviniemi was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middlefield.
Survivors include daughters Linda Green of Burton and Laura Holmes of Middlefield; son Larry of Middlefield; grandchildren Aimee Green, Shelly Pressell, Eric Kiviniemi, Kevin Kiviniemi and Nicholas Holmes; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, brother Tauno and sister Lillian Preisler.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Russell Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. Burial will be at Middlefield Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions in his name to the First United Methodist Church of Middlefield or Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department.
Juanita J. Brest
MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP - Juanita J. Brest, 76, of Middlefield Township, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Briar Hill Health Care Residence in Middlefield.
She was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Oklahoma. She had lived in the area for 45 years.
A homemaker, Mrs. Brest enjoyed playing the organ. She married Walter J. Brest, Oct. 23, 1944, in Oklahoma.
Survivors include her two sons, James Brest of Middlefield, and Jerry Brest of Windsor; three grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany and Jacob; and a sister, Dorothy Rogers of Tulsa, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Oct. 8, 1999; and nine siblings.
Service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. The Rev. D. Ray Mullet, pastor, of Burton, will officiate.
Her remains have been cremated. No calling hours will be observed.
Sam E. Yoder
MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP - Sam E. Yoder, 80, of Peters Road in Middlefield Township, died Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 16, 1920, in Huntsburg Township, the son of Elmer and Katie Ann (Miller) Yoder, and was a lifelong area resident.
A member of the Old Order Amish Church, he was a farmer and did farm machinery repair.
He married the former Emma E. Miller on Nov. 6, 1941, in Middlefield.
In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eli and Sam Jr., both of Middlefield, and Elmer of Huntsburg; five daughters, Katie Ann Byler, Elizabeth Miller, Anna Miller and Ada Miller, all of Middlefield, and Fannie Fisher of Burton; 57 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; seven sisters Anna Gingeric of Fredericktown, Elizabeth Yoder of Orwell, Clara Miller of Burton, Katie Ann Miller of Middlefield, Mary Byler of Farmington, Ada Byler of Pennsylvania, and Lovina Wengard of New York; and a brother, Ervin Yoder of Parkman.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Miller; and four brothers Dan, Lester, Homer and Elmer.
Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the deceased's home, 17532 Peters Road, Middlefield. Eli Byler, of the Old Order Amish Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Nauvoo Road Cemetery in Middlefield Township.
Friends may call anytime at the residence.

Florence C. Blackman
MIDDLEFIELD - Florence C. Blackman, 96, of Middlefield, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at the Briar Hill Health Care Residence.
She was born March 26, 1905, in Nashport, the daughter of Martin Walker and Sarah (Rhodes) Minnick, and had been a Middlefield resident since May 1985.
She was a 1922 graduate of Licking Rural Schools and obtained a teaching certificate from Muskingum Normal School.
She taught in the Muskingum school district in the 1920s and was a substitute teacher in the 1950s.
She married Charles E. Blackman on May 23, 1931, in Zanesville.
She was an associate member of the First United Methodist Church in Middlefield and a member of the First Baptist Church of Zanesville.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Roose of Middlefield; granddaughters Melinda Sitko Joyce Merritt and Cynthia Gubics; three great-granddaughters and two great-great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1985; brothers Ralph, Ed, and Fred; and sisters Ruth Starner and Esther Minnick.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Road, Zanesville. The Rev. Carl Finley will officiate. Burial will be at Hanover Cemetery in Hanover.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
