Benjamin "Bud" Bell
MIDDLEFIELD - Benjamin "Bud" Bell, 80, Lake Avenue, Middlefield, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in Burton Health Care, Burton.
Born Nov. 22, 1919, in Mesopotamia, he was the son of Willis Eugene and Nota (King) Bell.
Mr. Bell lived in the area 45 years. He married Jean Korowacki May 10, 1941, at St. Edward's Church in Parkman.
Mr. Bell was self-employed and formerly owned the Town Tavern in Middlefield.
He was a 1938 graduate of Mesopotamia High School. He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and Geauga County Tavern Association.
He enjoyed fishing and taking friends out to eat.
Survivors include his wife; two sons: Dr. Gerald Bell of Anchorage, Alaska, and Dr. Richard Bell of Croatia; one daughter, Judith Polomsky of Wadsworth; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Richards.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lucy's Catholic Church, Middlefield, with the Rev. Harry S. Winca, officiating.
Burial will be in Mesopotamia Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Russell Funeral Service, 15676 W. High St., Middlefield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Middlefield Fire Department or Mesopotamia Fire Department.
Preston L. Hill
MIDDLEFIELD VILLAGE - Preston L. Hill, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
He was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Dechard, Tenn., the son of Claude O. and Ann (Penney) Hill.
Mr. Hill had been a resident of the Geauga County area for 42 years.
He was a retired plater for TRW in Cleveland.
Mr. Hill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was a member of the Parkman Congregational Church in Parkman Township.
Mr. Hill enjoyed fishing and was a country boy at heart.
Survivors include his two daughters, Barbara and Claudia Hill, both of Middlefield Village; granddaughter, Elizabeth Krukowski of Hiram; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Belle Dotson of Dechard, Tenn. and Elsie Garner of Cuyahoga Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy (Hill) Hill; and a daughter, Sandra Lynn Hill.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday at the Parkman Congregational Church, 18255 Main St., Parkman Township, with the Rev. Gerald M. Sanders of the church officiating.
Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, Chester Township.
Calling hours will be at the church following the service.

Gerard Andel
MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP - Gerard "Jake" Andel, 19, of Middlefield Township, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
He was born June 6, 1981, in Claridon Township, the son of Edward Andel and Joyce (Barlow) Andel Howard, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 2000 graduate of Cardinal High School. He studied electronics at Auburn Career Center, and served as class president.
He worked for S&S Landscaping in Middlefield, and just recently started JT Racing. He raced four-wheel vehicles across Ohio, and finished third in state competition in 2000.
He enjoyed free-styling bike riding, and was a snow board instructor at Alpine Valley in Munson. He loved golfing, and was a member of the Cardinal High School golf team.
Survivors include mother, of Middlefield; his stepfather, Darrell Howard of Middlefield; a brother, Justin Howard of Middlefield; maternal grandparents Marion and Edgar Cox of Middlefield, and Robert L. and Pat Barlow of West Virginia; a great-grandmother, Isa Hinkston of Middlefield; and paternal grandparents Bill and Ruth Andell of Burton.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1982.
Service is 8 p.m. Monday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. William Norman, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Middlefield, will officiate. Burial will be at Welton Cemetery in Burton.
Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund in Mr. Andel's name at Middlefield Banking Co.
Malinda Detweiler
MIDDLEFIELD - Malinda Detweiler, 63, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at her home of cancer.
Born March 18, 1939, in Parkman Township, she was the daughter of David and Mary (Miller) Miller and had been lifelong area resident.
She married Eli Detweiler on June 6, 1957, in Parkman Township.,
A homemaker, she was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, John of Middlefield and Jim of Parkman Township; five daughters, Shirley Hardesty of West Farmington, Alma Jane Gingerich of Kentucky, Mary Ellen of Akron, Sally Yoder of Middlefield and Cathy, at home; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and eight sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother; a sister, a son and a grandchild.
Service is 9:30 a.m. Friday at 15855 Chipmunk Lane, Middlefield, with Bishop Dan Byler officiating. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Parkman Township.
Visitation is any time at the residence.

Martin M. Miller
MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP - Martin M. Miller, the 17-month-old son of Mose and Katie (Fisher) Miller, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at his home from respiratory complications.
Besides his parents, he is survived by six brothers, Raymond, Marvin, Andrew, Mose Jr., Robert and Jonathan; two sisters, Maria and Linda; paternal grandfather Mose J. Miller; and maternal grandparents Chris and Anna Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Miller.
Service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at 13480 Bundysburg Road, Middlefield Township, with Bishop Joe W. Byler officiating. Burial will be in Wilcox Road Cemetery, Mesopotamia Township.
Friends may call anytime at the residence.

Ethel Dean
MIDDLEFIELD - Ethel Dean, 88, of Middlefield, OH, died Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2003 at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township. Ethel Dean was born in West Farmington, Ohio on September 3, 1914 to James G. and Dora (Freeman) Schumaker.
She has been a lifelong resident of Middlefield, OH and married her first husband, John Thomas in 1937, and her second husband, Robert Dean in 1967. Mrs. Dean worked in the Bulk Tubing Department at Johnson Rubber, Middlefield for 30 years. She spent the winters in Florida for many years and she loved Shuffle Board. She was a graduate of Gustavus High School in 1933.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Nancy Thomas, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, and her second husband in 1985, a son, James Thomas and a sister, Elsie Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23 at 1p.m. at Russel Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Rt. 87), Middlefield, with Pastor Doug Yoder from Mapleview Mennonite Church in Burton, Ohio officiating. Friends may call on Sunday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville.
George E. Kratofil Jr.
MIDDLEFIELD - George E. Kratofil Jr., 27, of Park Drive was pronounced dead Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, in Middlefield Township. The cause of death is under investigation by the Geauga County Coroner's Office.
He was born July 30, 1974, the son of George J. and Katie Kratofil and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Kratofil worked at Trumbull Exteriors, West Farmington, for a short time and at Ultimate Building doing maintenance work.
He enjoyed fishing, detailing cars, vans and semi-trucks for area people.
Survivors include his mother; a daughter, Mae Lyn; a brother, Tom of Chardon; and two sisters, Georgene Fairbanks of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Ramona Tuck of Berea.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Service is 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. At the family's request, cremation will take place.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
