Dorothy Mittower
THOMPSON - Dorothy Mittower, 88, a 60-year resident of Thompson, Ohio, died on Sunday, May 25, 2003, at her home. Dorothy was born on July 24, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Edward Kaminski and Antoinette Betcher. She was a member of Ledge Grange and Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a Sunday School teacher at Thompson Methodist Church for all age groups, most recently adults. She also volunteered for many activities, including the Fire Dept.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin, in 1980; two sons, Richard and Marvin; a daughter, Corrine; two brothers, Edward Jr. and Russell Kaminski; and two sisters, Hazel Lacqua and Irene Zoldak.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Mona (Frank Jr.) Radabaugh of Thompson, Wilma Utz of Sugargrove, Ohio, and Wendy (Thomas) Griffin of Middlefield; 2 sons: Franklin (Rachel) Mittower of Chardon, and Howard (Debbie) Mittower of Thompson; 4 Sisters, Betty Butts of Cleveland, Ruth Friedl of Hambden, Lucille Cahal of Parma, and Helen Gaughan of Parma; and 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street (corner Routes 528 & 84), Madison, Ohio. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Behm Family Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Wheeler, of Thompson United Methodist Church, officiating.
M. Jeannette Baptie (nee: Krebs)

Died: July 14, 2004
Services: MEMORIAL MASS: Saturday, July 17, 2004, at 10:00 AM, held at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North Street, Chardon. Rev. Paul Sciarrotta of the Notre Dame Educational Center in Munson Township will officiate at services.
Visitation: VISITATION: Friday, July 16, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, OH.
M. Jeannette Baptie, 86 years old, a lifelong resident of Chardon died July 14, 2004 at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township, OH. She was born March 31, 1918, in Avon Lake, OH. She married Clifford Newton Baptie on September 22, 1945, at the Church of St. Mary, in Chardon. He preceded her in death in 1959. Mrs. Baptie worked as a postal clerk for more than 20 years, retiring in 1986. She was an active member of the Church of St. Mary in Chardon. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was fond of her flower gardens and enjoyed reading in her spare time. She was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Mrs. Baptie is survived by her daughter, Nancy Souvey of Chardon; son, Larry (Karen) Baptie of Chardon; grandchildren, Brain Souvey of Mentor on the Lake, Shellene (Nate) Seacrist of Streetsboro, OH, and Paul (Gretchen) Baptie of Chardon; as well as, her sister, Rita (Len) Polburn of Ashland, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford N. Baptie; parents, Edward and Pearl (nee: Wearsch) Krebs; and her sister, Virginia Zamer. The family has suggested memorial contributions may be made to the Chardon Fire Department, 110 S. Hambden Street, Chardon, OH 44024 or to the Grand Piano Fund at the Church of St. May, 401 North Street, Chardon, OH 44024.
Joseph John Sabatos
THOMPSON - Joseph John Sabatos, 84, of Thompson, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at his home.
He was born March 9, 1916, in Cleveland, the son of John and Ann (Vargo) Sabatos. In 1945, he moved from Cleveland to a home he built in Thompson.
He served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He worked as a welder at National Acme Company in Cleveland for 36 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Thompson, and in his leisure time enjoyed photography.
Survivors include his wife, the former Gertrude Schwonek; a son, Michael Sabatos of Arvada, Colo.; a sister, Ann Peshek of Cleveland; two granddaughters, Debbie Trujilo and Michelle Sabatos; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Paul Sabatos; and a sister, Helen Vanyo.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson. The Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, will officiate. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon.
Marlowe Vickery
THOMPSON - Marlowe "Vick" Vickery, 64, of Thompson, died Friday, July 25, 2003 in his home.
Born August 3, 1938 in Mutual, Oklahoma to Marjorie Edna (Hill) and Ralph Herbert Vickery.
Mr. Vickery married his wife Kathryn A. (Wehrle) on December 2, 1989. He worked at PBX and Central Office Technician for Alltel for 28 year.
Mr. Vickery was a Lieutenant with the Madison Volunteer Fire Department, Station #3 and a former member of Madison Odd Fellows. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 where he was an expert rifleman and he served with the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966 where he was a member of Gemini 10 Rescue Support Staff. And was a staff member at Camp Stigawandish from 1955 to 1956.
He is survived by wife Kathryn A. Vickery of Thompson, daughter Mrs. Christina L. McKitrick of Brimfield, son P. Dan Church of Thompson, grandchildren; Daniel Ray Church, Dakota (Cody) M. Church, Erin and Hannah McKitrick, sister Linda Gates of Newport, TN, niece Karrie, and nephews James and Jason.
He was preceded in death by mother Marjorie Edna Vickery and father Ralph Herbert Vickery.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at THOMPSON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6758 Madison Road, Thompson. Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2003 at BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 26 River Street, Madison. Rev. Harley Wheeler will be officiating.
Betty D. Durbin
THOMPSON TOWNSHIP - Betty D. (Owen) Durbin, 72, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her home.
She was born July 19, 1929, in Buchanan, Va., and had been a 43 year Thompson resident.
Mrs. Durbin retired from Chardon Rubber in 1984, where she was a press operator.
She was a 25-year member of the former Order of Eastern Star, Myrtle Chapter.
Survivors include her husband, Morley Fred, whom she married May 2, 1946; a daughter, Doris Paul of Brooklyn, Mich.; a son, Morley Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Charlotte Swiney of Virginia and Sandra Diehl of Florida; a brother, Gerald Owen of West, Va.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Jean Durbin and Karen Sue Morgan.
Services is 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Potti Funeral Home, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison Township. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Thompson Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Martin J. Filbin
THOMPSON - Martin J. Filbin, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Madison Health Care Center in Madison.
He was born Aug. 12, 1915, in Cleveland, the son of Margaret (Bowman) and James Dominic Filbin.
Mr. Filbin was floor superintendent at TRW, retiring in 1967.
He served with the Navy during World War II. He built his own home in Willowick in 1951, and lived there until he moved to Thompson four years ago.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Herst of Cleveland; and two sisters, Elizabeth Stoessner of Strongsville, and Mary Orzechowski of Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcella Filbin; and a granddaughter, Marcella.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road, Thompson. The Rev. Paul Smith, of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

Virginia Halfhill (nee: Ford)

Virginia J. Halfhill, 85 of Tucson, AZ, passed away at the Life Care Nursing Facility in Tucson. She was born in Madison Twp. and had resided in the Thompson, Montville and Chardon Areas since 1946, moving to Tucson, Arizona 1-1/2 years ago. She was a press operator for the Chardon Rubber Company for 15 years, retiring in 1980. She married Herman Dayton Halfhill in Princeton, MO on April 26, 1941. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1974. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Rierson of Tucson, AZ; son, Thomas Halfhill of Tucson and 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Her parents: Carl D. and Olive Ford.
Helen E. Morris (nee: Kalcher)

Services: Tuesday, July 6 at 10:00 AM held at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on St. Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square)
Visitation: Monday, July 5, 6:00 -9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Morris enjoyed needlepoint, gardening and bowling. After his retirement, she and her husband camped for 2 months in the winter in FL. for many years. Following her husbands death, she continued to go to FL with her sister. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Richard) Sedivy of Newbury Twp., grandchildren Rick (Julee) Sedivy of Claridon Twp., Laura (Wayne) Klatik of Parkman, great grandchildren Austin Klatik and Logan Sedivy and sisters Dorothy Barey of Columbus, Claire Wolinski of TX, brother Frank Kalcher of Wickliffe. Her parents Frank and Helen (nee: Reichter) Kalcher and sister Marion Byler are all deceased.
