Mark E. Leaverton
CLARIDON TOWNSHIP - Mark Egan Leaverton, 53, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Hillcrest Hospital, Mayfield Heights.
He was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Painesville. He married Debra R. (Bartunek) Valvoda April 9, 1999, in Painesville.
Mr. Leaverton worked as a shuttle driver for flight options at the Cuyahoga County Airport for the past year. Prior to that, he worked for 14 years in the maintenance department of the City of Mentor.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force, serving in Vietnam. He served 11 years in the US Air Force from 1974 to 1984 and four years with the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970.
He belonged to Elks Lodge 549, Moose and Moose Legion 490, American Legion Post 336 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 2595, all in Painesville.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Melinda Ann Leaverton; two stepsons, Jason and Paul Valvoda; a brother, Peter Leaverton; and a sister, Elizabeth Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister.
Private family services were held.

Christian Casalandra
CLARIDON TOWNSHIP - Christian Nicholas Casalandra, the infant son of Nicholas P. and Shannon L. ( Cherni) Casalandra of Burton Village, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 3, 2002, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
Survivors include his parents; sisters, Halle, Megan and Nicole, of Burton Village; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Sally Cherni of Burton Township; and paternal grandparents, John and Cathy Casalandra of Niles.
A private family service was held with the Rev. Jay McPhillips of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Newbury Township officiating. Burial was in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
Arrangements were handled by The Burr Funeral Home of Chardon.
Elmer E. Nagy
CLARIDON TOWNSHIP - Elmer E. Nagy, 83, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1917, in Cleveland, the son of Miklos and Elizabeth (Lenygel) Nagy and was a 24-year Claridon Township resident, coming from Euclid.
Mr. Nagy worked as a machinist for the former National Acme Corp. He retired in 1982 after 30 years at the company.
He married Rosemarie "Ronni" Burggabe in northern Kentucky on Sept. 19, 1948.
Mr. Nagy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II and participating in the liberation of the Philippines.
He was a life member of Hartsgrove Lodge 397, Free & Accepted Masons, Valley of Cleveland, Scottish Rite, and the Al Koran Shrine, Cleveland, where he was an active member and former Chief of the Camel Herders. He was a member of the Chardon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6519, Willowick American Legion Post 678 and Chardon Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2261.
Mr. Nagy volunteered for 10 years with the Geauga County Sheriff's Department's Special Deputy Unit.
Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Pamela C. Womack of Billings, Mont.; and a sister, Elsie M. Nagy of Solon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The public is invited to attend a Masonic service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Members of the Hartsgrove Lodge F&AM 397 will officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Walter Kronk
CLARIDON TOWNSHIP - Walter Kronk, 90, of Claridon Township, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Burton Healthcare, Burton.
He was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Cleveland, the son of August and Mary (Schultz) Kronk.
Mr. Kronk had been an area resident for 59 years.
He was a brakeman/conductor for the New York Central Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1968.
Mr. Kronk married Wilma Fuller on Oct. 7, 1944, in Chardon. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2001.
He was a 65-year member of the former Chardon Lodge 93 and Village Lodge 274, Free and Accepted Masons.
Mr. Kronk enjoyed working in his woods and outdoors.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Nancy Meyer, Kenneth Kronk, Carl Kronk and Mary Ann Post, all of Claridon Township, and Betty Berta of Logan; and many grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; a son, Jeffrey Kronk; his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth and Florence Meyer; and a brother, Carl Kronk.
Public Masonic graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Claridon Center Cemetery, Claridon Township, with officers and brethren of Village Lodge 274, of Burton, officiating.
Burial will be in Claridon Center Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Marian A. Laing
SUMTER, S.C. - Marian A. Laing, 81, of Sumter, S.C., died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Tumoney Hospital in Sumter.
She was born March 26, 1920, in East Claridon.
Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Laing, whom she married May 4, 1940; a son, Harold Laing of Ashville, N.C.; daughters Sally Cole of Cleveland, Nancy Mack and Margie Craft, both of Painesville, Alice Locher of Sumter, and Joyce Burchett of Marion; and sisters Elizabeth Smith of Windsor, Jane Schwinski of Andover, and Gloria Baldwin of Burton; 17 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond G. Laing, in 1963; and a sister, Pamela Fillinger.
Service is 1 p.m. Friday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. The Rev. Walter Matelski, of the Divine Holiness Church in Cleveland, will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones was an active member of Chardon Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and refinishing antique furniture. She is survived by her daughter Marion Jones of Sunrise, FL, grandchildren Robert M. (Doreen) Jones of Burton, Susan A. (Virl) Edger of Sevierville, TN Robert (Linda) Jones of Chardon, Patty (Scott) Conn of Sunrise, FL, great grandchildren: Kristoffer, Kimberly, Kelly Robert, Jody, Christy, Seth, Collin and Kasey. Her husband Charles Robert Jones, son Joseph Jones, parents Andy and Mary (nee: Misier) Pravica, sisters Catherine and Frances and brothers Louis and Martin are deceased. Mrs. Brownlee is a member of the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, OH, where she was a member of the choir. She directed a program with the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cleveland School of the Arts. Mrs. Brownlee had served as co-director of the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation/Cleveland State University Writing Project for 5 years. She was a Kellogg Foundation Fellow who had an interest in the problems of children in areas of conflict around the world. Graduate of Bedford High School, Wooster College, and Case Western Reserve University. A relentless reader, she enjoyed the writing of James Joyce and mysteries. '
