Judith W. Hirsch
BURTON - Judith W. Hirsch, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at her home, after a short illness. She was born May 24, 1938 in Dayton, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Shepard) Whitehouse.
She married Dennis Hirsch June 3, 1961 in New Lexington.
She graduated from New Lexington High School in 1956 and was active in school activities as a member of the National Honor Society.
She graduated from Ohio University in Athens in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She played basketball, volleyball and field hockey there.
She was also active in the Women’s Recreation Association and taught beginning tap dance for the university.
She taught health and physical education at New Lexington High School from 1960 to 1966 and in Cuyahoga Falls Schools from 1966 to 1967. She taught in the West Geauga School System from 1967 to 1991.
While teaching, she developed programs for sensori-motor and reading readiness skills and was a featured speaker at workshops and conventions. She completed graduated work at Kent State and University of Akron. She retired from teaching in 1991.
She was also a self-employed country dance teacher and caller and taught line dancing at local senior centers. She wrote dances and has been published in dance magazines. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Ohio, the Geauga County Retired Teachers Association, American Callers Association and was active with the Burton Congregational Church as director of the hand bell choir. She also lead songs for the church school, sang in the senior choir and served on several committees. She enjoyed playing the piano and reading western novels.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis and her sister, Janet Evans of Memphis, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday, at the Burton Congregational Church “On the Square” in Burton.
There will be no calling hours.

William F. Thomas
BURTON TOWNSHIP - William F. Thomas, 85, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Burton Health Care in Burton. He was born July 7, 1917 in Richmond Heights, the son of George and Rose (Palagyi) Thomas.
He lived in the Burton area for 63 years. Mr. Thomas married Marlene Priem on Sept. 1, 1965 in Kingsport, Tenn.
He graduated from Newbury High School in 1935 and worked as a farmer and beekeeper for 70 years.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the New Mercies Community Church in Burton Township and the Geauga Beekeepers Association.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Renee Thomas of Burton, Michelle Thomas of Solon and Stephanie Thomas of Painesville; two sisters, Marie Thomas of Middlefield and Eleanore Weston of Maitland, Fla.; and one brother, Franklin Thomas of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Edward Thomas.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the New Mercies Community Church at Butternut and Aquilla Roads in Burton Township, with Pastor Jim Sutton officiating.
Calling hours will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Route 87) in Middlefield.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Burton Township.

Alice H. Ferris
BURTON - Alice H. Ferris, 77, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Briar Hill Health Care Residence, Middlefield.
She was born May 16, 1924, in Youngstown, to James Robert and Hazel (Hudspath) Hendley. She married Duane Ferris Jan. 17, 1946, in Youngstown. She lived in Burton 35 years, coming from Orwell.
Mrs. Ferris graduated from Boardman High School in 1943. She was a homemaker, but delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.
She was a founding member of the Geauga County Genealogical Society, as well as a member of the Burton Rug Club and the Geauga Quilters. She was also a book sorter at the Burton Public Library.
Survivors include her husband; daughters Hollie Scott of Buda, Ill., Patricia Ferris of Burton, and Bethanie Connors of Romeo, Mich.; sister Barbara June Ward of Vol Vico, Fla.; grandchildren David, Steve and Daniel Scott, Jennifer and Laura Connors, and Amy Dorsch Scott; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Hendley.
An open house will be 1- 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at the family residence, 13753 Spring St., Burton. Mrs. Ferris will be cremated.

John H. Kennedy
BURTON - John Henry Kennedy, 83, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Burton Health Care.
He was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Bainbridge, the son of George and Henrietta (Hopensoch) Kennedy and had lived in Burton since 1981 after have living in Chardon for 14 years.
Mr. Kennedy was a factory worker at Moritz Steel in Cleveland for 15 years from 1950-1965, he worked for eight years until 1973 at Chardon Rubber Co., was a driver for three years for Geauga County and drove for the Amish in Burton for three years.
He enjoyed nature, duck watching and reading westerns.
Survivors include his wife, Louise (Hrach) whom he married in June of 1981; a daughter, Janet Resick of Huntsburg; Patricia Gallagher of Burton, Donna Kline of Wilson, N.Y., Donald Resick Jr. of Chardon and John Resick of Chesterland; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Esther Ronan of Solon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Maude (Coulter) Kennedy in 1975; his parents; and a sister, Katherine "Kay" Hallbom.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be held in Chardon Municipal Cemetery.

Lilian K. Hanks
BURTON - Lilian K. Hanks, 90, formerly of Conneaut, died Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2002, at Burton Health Care Center, where she had been a patient for the past 10 days.
She was born Feb. 17, 1912, in Springboro, Pa., the daughter of Spencer A. and Susan (Brown) King.
Mrs. Hanks was a graduate of Springboro High School and attended Hamot School of Nursing in Erie. She then worked as a nurse attendant at the Zem Zem Hospital in Erie until her marriage to Edwin D. Hanks on June 1, 1935.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Conneaut, where she served on many committees, held the offices of president and treasurer of United Methodist Women, and was a member of the choir for several years.
Mrs. Hanks was a member of Rose Chapter 22, Order of Eastern Star, was a member of the Mystic Circle, and volunteered at Brown Memorial Hospital for nearly 30 years.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) H. Lingg of Bowie, Md.; her son, Norman E. of Montville; and a granddaughter, Linda E. Lingg of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin, in 1993; and two sisters, Julia K. Hanks and Donna E. Harris.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with The Rev. Jeffery Fatica of Orwell United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Spring Cemetery, Springboro, Pa.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Conneaut or to the Conneaut Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Louise E. Fisher (nee: Moldwin)

Mrs. Fisher was the Valedictorian of the class of 1929, Mayfield High School. She then attended the former Dyke-Spenserian College, now part of Cleveland State University, and earned a certificate in Bookkeeping. During the depression, she used those skills until she married Mr. Fisher in 1934. Having been widowed rather young, Mrs. Fisher worked locally to support her Social Security until she felt it was time for herself. She became involved in local activities in Mayfield Village. She enjoyed bowling, bocce, card playing and gardening. She was very fond of flowers. For many years, she was active working at the election poles in Mayfield. She is survived by her daughters Nancy (John) Oatess of Lyndhurst, Janet Gockel of Leroy Twp., son Robert (Annette) Fisher of Kirtland, 8 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren and sisters Elizabeth Shimels of Las Vegas, NV and Mary Farroni of Willoughby. She was predeceased by her husband Howard Ross Fisher, son Danny Jay Fisher, killed in Vietnam, parents Joseph and Elizabeth (nee: Mizsak) Moldwin, brothers Bailey, Steve and Joseph Moldwin and son-in-law: William Gockel.

Mrs. Cutter was a Graduate of Chardon High School, Valedictorian of the Class of 1941, attended Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority at Northwestern University and a long time member of Beachland Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. Mrs. Cutter enjoyed floral arranging and gardening. Survivors include her husband, Harold C. Cutter of Hudson, OH (Former commissioner and acting chief of the Bureau of Industrial Hygiene, City of Cleveland), 1 daughter, Cheri (Jack) Waldeck of Bainbridge Twp., 1 son Terrance H. Cutter of Beverly Hills, Florida (Formerly of Euclid, OH), 3 grandchildren: Jack Waldeck of Columbus, Matthew Waldeck of Claremont, California and Becca Waldeck of Bainbridge Twp., 2 brothers, Ralph Hanna of Evansville, Indiana and William T.
