Julia L. Lockhart
BURTON - Julia Louise Lockhart, 80, of Burton, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Claridon Township.
She was born May 2, 1920, in Cleveland, the daughter of Thomas and Minnie (Goldenbogen) Lockhart, and had lived in the area most of her life.
She was a graduate of Glenville High School, Cleveland, and worked in the customer service department at the former Geauga Industries, Middlefield, for many years prior to retirement.
She enjoyed traveling, reading and playing cards.
She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Chardon; Eastern Star Clover Chapter, Burton; and the Burton Bridge Card Club. She volunteered at the Burton Public Library and was a member of the Friends of the Burton Public Library .
Survivors include three nephews, Richard Lockhart of Huntsburg Township, and Bruce and Jeff Lockhart of Louisville, Ky., and a niece, Lora Lockhart of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John F. and Thomas Lockhart.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. April 28 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Chardon, with the Rev. John Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Munn Cemetery, Newbury Township, at a later date.

Janet Lee Bennett
BURTON VILLAGE - Janet Lee Bennett, 66, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.
The daughter of Rupert and Hazel (Slitor) Wicks, she was born March 6, 1934 in Chardon. She was a lifelong resident in the Geauga County area.
Mrs. Bennett taught second grade at Newbury Schools for 10 years. She also substituted for several area schools.
She enjoyed camping. She was a graduate of Kent State University with a degree in education, and belonged to Burton Congregational Church, where she was a junior choir director for many years.
Survivors include her husband, William D.; two daughters: Cindy Moss of Burton and Diane Martinez of Hawaii; one brother, Ronald of New Port Richey, Fla.; one sister, Joan Bartlett of Newbury; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be 11a.m. Friday at Burton Congregational Church, on the square in Burton, with the Rev. Harry Buch officiating. Burial will be in Slitor Cemetery in Burton Township.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield.
Mary Ann Plottke
BURTON TOWNSHIP - Mary Ann Plottke, 61, of Hubbard Road, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic.
She was born Jan. 12, 1940, in Cleveland, the daughter of George and Sue (Kuhar) Laskodi and had lived in the area for the past 30 years.
An Aurora High School graduate, she was a homemaker who homeschooled her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening, reading, stuffed animals, playing the organ, birdwatching and nature.
Survivors include her mother; her husband of 41 years, Edward P.; two sons, Steve of Middlefield, and Edward Jr. of Aurora; and three grandchildren, Dustin, Jessica and Nichole.
She was preceded in death by her father, and her brother, Stephen Laskodi.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, with the Rev. Roger Kruse of Cornerstone Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Slitor Cemetery, Burton.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Joan M. Hissa
BURTON - Joan Marie Hissa, 70, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 11, 1932, in Cleveland, the daughter of Edward Turk and Gertrude Bartek.
She married Edwin A Hissa on July 12, 1952, in Cleveland.
Mrs. Hissa was a homemaker. She worked as a waitress at Belle's Restaurant, Burton, for many years. She also worked as a home health aide with Care Corp., Chardon.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and keeping track of her 11 grandchildren and their friends. Mrs. Hissa was a member of St. Helen's Church, Newbury Township.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Humphrey of Chester Township, and Alisa Humphrey of Columbus; four sons, Edwin A. Jr., of Gates Mills, Mark of Huntsburg Township, Michael of Riva, Md., and Mathew of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, James J. Bartek of Avon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service is noon Saturday at St. Helen's Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township, with the Rev. Jay McPhillips officiating. Interment will be in Weldon Cemetery.

William A. McLaughlin
BURTON - William Arthur McLaughlin, 82, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 13, 1920, in Cleveland, the son of William Arthur Shaw and Sadie (Kooser) McLaughlin.
A longtime area resident, he graduated from Collinwood High School in 1938.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Ruth Corbett on July 2, 1941.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II in the South Pacific.
Mr. McLaughlin began working at Chardon Rubber in 1950 in management, retiring in 1989.
He was known by many as a musician during the Big Band Era. He played the trumpet with Lew Ayers, Lew Anderson and Hal Lynn among others and appeared in many clubs and ballrooms.
He and his wife, were founding members of the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, where he served as director from 1955 to 1980. He directed more than 30 musicals, remaining active until 1990.
From 1960 to 1976, he was a director of the Great Geauga County Fair Band and was honored for his service in 2001.
Mr. McLaughlin also was a member and past chief of the Order of Scottish Clans, Clan Grand.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons, William Jr. of Meadville, Pa., and James of Burton; two grandchildren, Robert Lee Lord of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Donald William Lord of Los Angeles, Calif.; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles of Florida and a sister, Wanda Riedel of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 2 p.m., Saturday at Newbury United Community Church, 14916 Auburn Road, Newbury Township, with the Rev. Brian Bagley-Bonner officiating.
The family will receive friends at the family home at 14543 Dean Court, Burton, after the service Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Robert C. McKenzie

Mr. McKenzie enjoyed debating with family and friends. He was the “Answer Man” when it came to any type of handy work. He enjoyed going for car rides and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (nee: Schiebel) McKenzie of Burton Twp., daughter, Connie (Tracy) Luoma of Burton Village, sons, James R. (Michelle) McKenzie of Brecksville, and David K. McKenzie of Minneapolis, MN, and sisters Hazel Stern of Russellville, AR. He is the grandfather of 7 and great grandfather of 4. His parents, Byron C. and Iva (Crumbley) McKenzie, brother, Edwin McKenzie and sisters Jean Clark, Ruth Bruce and Jolene Burridge are all deceased.
Robert A. Hooberry

He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific on the battleship, USS California. Mr. Hooberry was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and gardening. He loved his flowers and spent much time in the garden. For many years he was a Bee Keeper in Chardon Twp. He attended church regularly, until his health no longer permitted. Mr. Hooberry’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Doris (nee: Cuckow) Hooberry of Chardon, daughters Mary (Charles) Duncan of Chardon Twp. and Katherine (Allan) Kolesar of Chardon Twp., grandchildren Chuck (Charline) Duncan and April Duncan of Chardon Twp., Michelle McHugh of Portland, OR, Ericka (Matthew) Knipp of McDonald, TN and Deidre (David) Berens of Portland, OR and great grandchildren Victoria and Elizabeth Duncan.
