BURTON - Anna Repinz, 91, of the Burton Health Care Center, died Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2003 at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 West High Street (Rt. 87), Middlefield, OH 44062.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday, June 16, at the funeral home.
Howard W. Rankin
BURTON TOWNSHIP - Howard W. Rankin, 73, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at University Hospitals in Cleveland. He was born April 3, 1929 in Wesleyville, Pa., the son of Howard L. and Elizabeth A. (Hutchison) Rankin.
Mr. Rankin married Margaret Schneider in Greentown Dec. 23, 1950.
He was the owner and operator of the Todd and Associated Insurance Agency in Beachwood for 40 years, retiring n 1998. Mr. Rankin wa a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was an active member of Village Lodge #274, F.&A.M where he was a two time past master, Clover Chapter #201 and Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of Chapter #46 Royal Arch Masons, Council #104 Royal and Select Masons, Eagle Commandery #29 Knights Templar and the Eagle Shrine Club, all of Painesville.
Mr. Rankin was also a member in the Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland, Al Koran Shrine and the Al Koran Mariners Club, all of Cleveland. He was a past district education officer for the 25th Masonic District in Ohio and a member of the Allied Masonic Degrees.
Mr. Rankin was also an active member of American Legion Post #459 in Burton and the U.S. Power Squadron.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathleen E. Dumler of Middlefield and Margaret S. Harrington of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Howard W., Jr. of Monticello, Ky.; a sister, Allene Martinez of Dagsboro, Del.; a brother, Perry L. of Erie, Pa.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A masonic service is 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The officers and brethren of Village Lodge #274 will officiate.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

John S. Hollo
BURTON - John S. Hollo Sr., 80, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Medina, to John and Bertha (Tancak) Hollo. He was a longtime Burton area resident. He married Anna M. Luoma in Chardon in 1948.
Mr. Hollo worked on Herring Farm when he was younger. He also worked sanding floors for the family business, Hollo Floors. He worked at Burton Rubber Processing 30 years, retiring in 1988.
He was recognized in 1984 for his outstanding efforts in making Burton Rubber Processing's annual picnic a success. He was also a member of the Burton Chamber of Commerce and director of maple syrup operations at the Burton Log Cabin.
Mr. Hollo was an outdoors man. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle, fishing, golfing, telling jokes, and cutting and splitting wood. He was a master of maple syrup and candy production.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; daughters Teresa J. Dallas of Burton, Bonnie L. Larson of Columbia, and Lori D. Blair of Burton; a son, John Jr. of Middlefield; nine grandchildren; brothers Joseph Hollo and Michael and William Pavolka, all of Cleveland; and sisters Irene Stankiewicz of Burton, and Helen Antolik and Rosemary Alfen, both of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, officiated by the Rev. D. Ray Mullet of Burton. Per Mr. Hollo's wishes, he will be cremated.
Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty J. Pfenniger
BURTON - Betty J. Pfenniger (nee Van Horn), 78, died Monday, June 3, 2002, in UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Chardon.
She was born June 20, 1923, in Cleveland, to Charles and Kathryn (Hesselman) Van Horn. She lived in the area most of her life. She married Ernest F. Pfenniger Jan. 25, 1941 in Huntsburg.
Mrs. Pfenniger was a homemaker. Her main hobbies were cooking and reading.
Survivors include her husband; sons Dennis of Burton and Donald of Torrence, Calif.; daughter Becky Young of Mansfield; brother Robert Van Horn of Torrence, Calif.; sister Lois Ash of Chardon; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Robert.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, officiated by Pastor Roger Kruse of Cornerstone Bible Church, Burton. Burial is in Fowler Mills Cemetery, Munson Township.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Bessie E. Barringer
BURTON TOWNSHIP - Bessie E. Barringer, 81, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Chardon Health Care Center, Chardon.
She was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Middlefield, the daughter of Floyd and Esther (Ratekin) Ely, and had been a lifelong area resident.
She worked at Johnson Rubber Co., Middlefield, and later at Geauga Industries, Middlefield, where she retired as an inspector in 1985.
She married Harold Barringer in 1967.
She was volunteer at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital for many years, serving until 1998.
Survivors include a son, Dan Popp of Chardon; two stepsons, Arthur of Middlefield, and William of Parkman Township; two stepdaughters, Ann Tibbs of Middlefield, and Edna Perry of Oklahoma; a brother, Edward Ely of Florida; three sisters, Geraldine Crilow of Cleveland, Audry Stevens of Orwell and Ruth Nixon of Chardon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Julius Popp, in 1964; her second husband, Harold Barringer, in 1990; two brothers, Albert and Jay Ely; and three sisters, Doris Ely, Anna Mae Running and Ella Lomis.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
William P. Miller
BURTON - William Paul "Bill" Miller, 88, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Burton Health Care Center, Burton.
He was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Cleveland, to Mathew and Eva (Wieland) Miller. He lived in Cleveland before moving to Burton in 1970. He married Dorothy Koenig June 1, 1946.
Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy veteran and later enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. His decorations during World War II include the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Four Stars, Philippine Liberation Two Stars and the Victory Medal. He was awarded the Naval Reserve Medal during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Miller earned a bachelor degree at the University of Dubuque. He was a science instructor and athletic coach in Westside, Iowa from 1937 until joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. After his discharge from active duty in July 1953, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve to complete 20 years, retiring with the rank of commander in 1970.
He worked for the Veterans Administration in Cleveland and the Navy Department until 1965, then worked for the Department of Defense until he retired in 1972.
Mr. Miller was a high school basketball referee for more than 30 years in Iowa, Maryland, Virginia and Ohio.
He was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Newbury, where he was active in many parish organizations and a server at Mass for many funerals.
Survivors include his wife; sons Paul Miller of Burton and William F. Miller of Florence, Ky.; and grandchildren Capt. Theodore M. Miller, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Seattle, Wash., and 1st Lt. Ruth K. Miller, stationed at Ft. Stewart in Savannah, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles J. Miller and sister Helen Velchek.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury, officiated by pastor Fr. Jay McPhillips. Family will meet friends at the church Friday. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, 10000 Miles Ave., Cleveland.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon.
Ann May Hofstetter

Mrs. Hofstetter had been a homemaker and also a realtor for the former Powers and Company in Chardon; a caseworker for the Geauga Co. Welfare Department, and has also worked as Executive Secretary for the Geauga Co. Republican Party, where she was named to their Hall of Fame in 2000. Anna May Booth married Edwin T. Hofstetter in Kirtland, OH, on March 28, 1941 Mrs. Hofstetter has been a member of the Chardon United Methodist Church since 1943. She participated in the Women’s Circles, and had taught Sunday School. She was a member of the PEO (a philanthropic education organization); the Business and Professional Women’s Club, having served as president; and a member and past president of the Parkinson’s Group at the Geauga Co. Senior Center. Mrs. Hofstetter was an avid floral and vegetable gardener, a button collector and an excellent homemaker. She had been a 4-H club leader for both sewing and conservation clubs. Mrs. Hofstetter was a consummate campaigner during her husband’s 7 successful political campaigns.

Michelle graduated from the Metzenbaum School in Chester Twp. She is survived by her mother Betty Durkin of Geneva, sisters Jennifer Kerestman of Norfolk, VA and Kimberly Pridemore of Madison, 6 Nieces and 4 Nephews. Her father Michael Durkin and 1 Niece are deceased.
