Norman R. Andrews
Norman R. Andrews, 75, of North River Road, McConnelsville, died at 6:15 a.m. May 20, 2004, at his home.
Born May 26, 1928, in Holy Oak, MA, he was a retired carpenter and truck driver. Mr. Andrews was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of McConnelsville, VFW of Malta, and American Legion of Zanesville.
Surviving are his companion, Opal Anderson of McConnelsville; and three children.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Matheney Funeral Home, 165 N. Kennebec Ave., McConnelsville, with military rites. Cremation followed.
Ellis G. ‘Pete’ Skinner
Ellis G. “Pete” Skinner, 81, of Glouster, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Kimes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Athens.
He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Glouster, a son of the late Ernest “Jud” and Ruth E. Withem Skinner.
Mr. Skinner worked as a coal miner in the Glouster area and retired as a construction survey engineer. He was a WW II Army veteran.
He is survived by his widow, Glenna Long Skinner of Glouster; a son, Terry M. Skinner of Glouster; three grandchildren, Terrylynn Skinner of Glouster, Christopher Skinner of Phoenix, AZ, and Randy Skinner of Fairborn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Margie Guffey Skinner; seven brothers, Jessie, Daine, Dallas, Lawrence, Willard, Delbert, and Albert Skinner; and four sisters, Mary Alice Kelly, Melvina Pincelli, Marjorie Burdette, and Annette Nott.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Rev. Jim Brown officiating.
Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery with military services conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
Thyra Asalee Self
Thyra Asalee Self, 76, of 20 Second Street, Malta, formerly of Maysville, OK, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville.
Born Aug. 2, 1927, in Haralson County, GA, she was a housewife and attended Morgan Baptist Church in McConnelsville.
Surviving are her husband, Clifford R. Self, whom she married Sept. 13, 1963; three daughters, Virginia M. Shannon of Pauls Valley, OK, Gloria V. Ray of Acworth, GA, and Glendora Carol Garner of Malta; a son, Delbert E. Free of Woodstock, GA; a sister, Laura V. Haney of Tallapoosa, GA; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Mills Palmer; her father, Oscar E. Palmer; a daughter, Mary J. Holiday; a sister, Mattie M. Dennis; and brothers, Lawson J. Palmer, Printis W. Palmer and Cecil W. Palmer.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville, with Pastor Robert Cosgray officiating. Burial was in the Malta Cemetery.
Rodney Fleming
Rodney Fleming, 44, of Glouster, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Logan Health Care Center.
He was born April 24, 1960, in Muskingum County, a son of the late Hugh and Ruby Day Fleming.
Mr. Fleming was a member of Clemente Amitie Masonic Lodge No. 385 at Reinersville and formerly taught Auto Mechanics at Morgan High School.
He is survived by his widow, Bonnie Jean Smathers Fleming of Glouster; children, he thought of as his own, Sam Smathers of Jacksonville, Danny Martin of Mt. Vernon, and Tanya Noland of Morgan County; a very special granddaughter who meant the world to him, Brittany Noland; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Sandy Fleming of Mt. Perry, George and Judy Fleming of Malta, Johnson and Charlene Fleming of McConnelsville, Randy and Konnie Fleming of Plain City, and Norman and Dawn Fleming of Mt. Gilead; and one sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Virgil Cobb of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Fleming.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
Burial was in the Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.
William ‘Bill’ Mullen
William P. "Bill" Mullen, 72, of Orrville, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the Cincinnati Veterans Hospital.
He was born July 4, 1931, in Torch, the son of the late William and Goldie Ramsey Mullen Sr. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and was a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna Maye Stamper Mullen; children, Danny Mullen and Dave Mullen, both of Glouster, Theressa Mullen Snyder of Shawnee, and Daryell Mullen and Carla Mullen of the home; siblings, John Mullen of Canton, Gary Mullen of Cleveland, Robert Mullen and Bruce Mullen, both of Corning, Barbara Mullen Davis of Huntington, WV, and Gladys Mullen Rhinehart of Columbus; grandchildren, Black and Staci Snyder, along with seven others; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Carolyn Mullen Kessler and William "Billy" Mullen; and two sisters, Mary Lou and Ruth Mullen.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 118 W. Walnut St., Shawnee, with Rev. James Mathias officiating. Interment was in Shawnee Cemetery.

Stan P. Knapp
Stan P. Knapp, 64, of Main Street, Stockport, died at 2:23 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 20, 1939, in White Sulpher Springs, WV, a son of the late Charles P. and Lillian Baker Knapp.
Mr. Knapp was an electrician.
He is survived by one son, Mark Knapp of McConnelsville; and one sister, Charlotte Wilson of Reinersville.
No service was held.
