Florence Wooters
MIDDLEFIELD - Florence "Delene" Wooters, 89, of South State Avenue, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Holly Hill Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 30, 1911, in Kokomo, Ind., to Grover C. and Bertha F. (Brobst) Wooters. She lived in the area since 1984.
Ms. Wooters graduated high school and attended business college in the Chicago area. She was a bookkeeper and photographer. She also trained race horses and was an assistant trainer for Reid Armstrong. She trained the horse Timely Tip, who won the Ohio Derby in the early 1950s.
She liked gardening and loved horses.
Survivors include guardians Michael and Jane Soltis of Parkman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Elmo G. Wooters.
Service is 7 p.m. Tuesday at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. Burial is in Crown Pointe Cemetery in Kokomo, Ind.
Irene R. Norris
MIDDLEFIELD - Irene R. Norris, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Briar Hill Health Care Residence.
She was born April 1, 1929 in Cleveland to Ray Leon and Mayme (Mitchan) Anthony. In 1947, she married Edward Norris, who died in 1991. She lived in Middlefield for the past three years, coming from Mentor and Windsor.
Mrs. Norris was a machine operator at Kerr Lakeside in Euclid. She also worked at Fluid Control in Mentor.
Survivors include sons Jim and John, both of Windsor; daughter Barbara Jones of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Robert Anthony and sister Kay Finkler.
Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 West High Street, Middlefield. A private burial will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland.
Laura M. Sawyer
MIDDLEFIELD - Laura M. Sawyer, 93, of Middlefield, died Tuesday evening, April 2, 2002, at her home.
She was born June 18, 1908, in Johnston Township, the daughter of Frank W. and Golda (Petrie) King, and had been a lifelong area resident.
She attended school in Andover and Mesopotamia, and traveled to classes with the help of her horse, "Lady."
She worked at Ohio Pail Co., in Middlefield for several years, followed by employment at the produce department at White Brothers Supermarket in Middlefield.
She enjoyed playing piano and organ, and also crocheted more than 45 afghans, which she gave to family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and playing cards.
She married Roy Gilbert Sawyer on April 20, 1925, in Ripley, N.Y.
Survivors include a son, Keith Sawyer of Warren; a daughter, Gilberta Town of Middlefield; grandchildren Kenneth Town, Roxanne Miller, Cheryl Garcher and Cale Sawyer; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Margaret Rhoads and Mildred Limburg.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mahlon M.S. Miller
MIDDLEFIELD - Mahlon M.S. Miller, 86, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Indiana, to Milo S. and Emma (Miller) Miller. He spent most of his life in the area.
Mr. Miller married Katie Yoder. He worked for the Middlefield Village Street Department for many years and eventually retired. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church.
Survivors include sons William and Freeman, both of Middlefield; daughter Mary Ann Hershberg of Middlefield; brothers Owen Miller of Wisconsin and Levi Miller of Pennsylvania; and sister Ida Yoder of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sons and two brothers.
Funeral is at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at 15195 Georgia Road, Middlefield, officiated by Bishop Marvin Detweiller. Burial is in Yoder Cemetery, Parkman Township. Visitation is anytime at the residence.

Viola V. Schwartz
MIDDLEFIELD - Viola V. Schwartz, 64, of Middlefield, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2002, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Berne, Ind., the daughter of Menno E. and Veronica (Schwartz) Eicher and lived in the area the past seven years.
A homemaker, she married Daniel Schwartz Sept. 7, 1968, in Berne, Ind.
She enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include five brothers, Henry, Paul, and Jake, all living in Indiana, Menno Eicher of Parkman and Joseph Eicher of Orwell; and three sisters, Elizabeth of Indiana, Edith of Arizona and Ida of Middlefield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Ernest.
Service is 9:30 a.m. Friday, at the Joe R. Eicher residence, 16262 Nauvoo Road, Middlefield. Bishop William W. Byler will officiate. Burial will be in Miller's Amish Cemetery in Huntsburg.
Friends may visit any time at the Joe Eicher residence.

Irene J. Belliconish Duralia (nee: Kenat)

Mrs. Duralia was an accomplished seamstress, making toys and stuffed animals for needy children in Geauga County. She would knit slippers and lap robes for residents of the Pleasant Hill Geauga County Home and the Cleveland VA Hospital. She loved to cook and bake, having been a cook at the Punderson Manor House and several area hospitals. Mrs. Duralia was very crafty and learned to do many things on her own. Having been widowed at a young age, she learned to do brick work, carpentry and plumbing. She very much enjoyed doing domestic craft work, especially sewing clothing, seat covers, alterations, furniture covers and draperies. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Martin of Hambden Twp., brother Dan Lamis of Euclid, niece Debbie (Tom) Winters of Hambden Twp., nephew Dan Lamis of Mentor, great neices Leigh and Ashley Winters of Hambden Twp., and cousins Francine (John) Ambrose of Rotonda West, FL and Doreen Shick of Northfield. Deceased are her former husbands Nicholas Belliconish and Richard Duralia, parents Louis and Irene (nee: Aukens) Kenat Lamis and brother Richard Kenat.
James J. Valvoda, Jr.

Services: Thursday, September 9 at 11:00 AM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on St. Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square).
Visitation: Wednesday, September 8, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Valvoda was awarded the Purple Heart and a decorated veteran while serving in the US Army, Vietnam War. He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church of Chardon and a member of the Polish Legion in Cleveland, Ohio. He enjoyed bowling and watching his children play soft ball. Survivors include his wife Jane (nee: Patterson) of Claridon Twp., daughter Amy Marie Valvoda of Claridon Twp., son James J. (Maria) Valvoda, III of Painesville, mother Josephine Skiba of Chardon, sister Josephine Rose Kalina of Painesville, brother Anthony T. (Jane) Valvoda of Chesterland, granddaughter Sophia Rose Valvoda. His father James J. Valvoda, Sr. and sister Frances Justinger are deceased.
