Helenne J. Wilmoth
VERNON TOWNSHIP - Helenne J. Wilmoth, 75, of Vernon Township died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren.
She was born Aug. 24, 1927 in Gustavus Township, the daughter of John and Julia (Lasko) Hruska.
Mrs. Wilmoth had lived in Vernon Township since 1946 and graduated from Gustavus High School in 1945.
She was a member of the Gustavus Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed flower gardening and arranging, crafts, sewing, and spending time with family.
She married Willard C. Wilmoth Oct. 12, 1946.
Survivors include her husband, Willard "Bill"; daughters, Sharyn L. Hipkins of Vernon Township and Denise A. Manes of Johnston Township; sons, Douglas M. Wilmoth of Johnston Township; grandsons, Shawn D. Hipkins and Jared E. Hipkins, both of Vernon Township, Jason L. Manes of Girard, and Nathan G. Wilmoth of Johnston Township; granddaughters, Julie A. Hatfield of Canton and Desires N. Wilmoth of Johnston Township.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sue Carr; and a brother, John Hruska.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, at the Vernon United Methodist Church, Route 7, Vernon Township, with the Rev. Erwin M. Urachitz officiating.
Burial will be in Kinsman Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman.
Layton H. Lipps
WAYNE TOWNSHIP - Layton H. Lipps, 90, of Creek Road, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at St. Paul Homes Health Center in Greenville, Pa.
He was born July 25, 1912, in Dorset, the son of John A. and Daisy (Hayslett) Lipps.
A lifetime Ashtabula County resident, Mr. Lipps owned and operated his own dairy farm in Wayne Township for more than 40 years. He also drove a school bus for more than 14 years, for the former Wayne School.
He was a faithful member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church for many years, serving as an usher. He was also a longtime member of the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau.
He married his first wife, Glenna D. (Fetters), on Sept. 2, 1939. She died Dec. 30, 1976. He married his second wife, Inez A. (Garwood), on Aug. 23, 1977. She died Feb. 19, 1988. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis, Loid, Lester and Leonard; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, LeRoy L., and L. Robert, both of Wayne Township, and Leslie H., of Ashtabula; a daughter, Nola M. Vlock, of Sheffield Township; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a longtime friend, Ruth Tuttle of Wayne Township.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, with The Rev. Don C. Sillaman Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Hayes Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

David Carpenter
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Graveside service for David Carpenter, 59, of Memphis, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, Geneva.
The Rev. Hugh Hookway of Geneva First United Methodist Church will officiate.
Mr. Carpenter died Oct. 30, 2001, at Methodist Healthcare, Germantown, Tenn.
He served with the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a prisoner of war.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Roberta (Wilson.)
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Monica McGee
TOMBSTONE, Ariz. - Monica McGee, 50, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 25, 1951, the daughter of Virginia and James Tamblyn, and was a former Ashtabula resident.
She enjoyed being with her family, reading, music and her pets.
Survivors include her husband, Mike; a son, Patrick McBride of Tombstone; a daughter, Kelly McBride of Blaine, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kyle and Teghan; a brother, Jim Tamblyn of Texas; a sister, Cheryl Lipps of Conneaut; and a brother, Richard Good of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David Good.
Services were June 2 at the San Pedro Funeral Home, 57 W. Patton St., David, Ariz.
Stanley Churchya
PERRYSBURG - Stanley Churchya, 63, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
He was born March 8, 1939, in Ashtabula, to Louis and Carmel (DeGennaro) Churchya.
Mr. Churchya served in the U.S. Marines Corps.
He was a licensed chief engineer and worked for 29 years in the maritime industry.
After the Sept. 11 attack on America, he served aboard the USNS Dahl in Diego Garcia.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, IHMSA Inc., and the Elmore Conservation Club.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Annette; two sons, Dave of Virginia and Steven of Ashtabula; a daughter, Miriam Denise Bruce of Ashtabula; two stepchildren, Angela Auxter of Oregon and Daniel Auxter of Perrysburg; two sisters, Louise Evans of Arizona and Sylvia Allcock of Ashtabula; and three grandchildren, Chris, Lisa and Abigail Churchya.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at Hoeflinger Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mary L. Mehler
MCLEAN, Va. - Mary Lou Mehler, 77, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Virginia Hospital, Arlington, Va.
She was born July 29, 1924, the daughter of Wallace and Pauline Baber, who resided in Jefferson.
Mrs. Mehler worked for a prominent law firm in Washington, D.C., until her marriage in 1949 to Richard Mehler.
Survivors include two sons, Fritz of Richmond, Va., and Carl of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Lori Mehler-Kirby of Herndon, Va.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Ricker of Penn Valley, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987 and her parents.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at McLean Presbyterian Church, McLean, Va. Burial will be private at Oak Cemetery, Falls Church, Va.

Russell H. Bethel
WALNUT CREEK - Russell H. Bethel, 83, of Olde Pump Street, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home of progressive supranuclear palsy.
Born Dec. 3, 1917, in Greenville, he was a son of Howard and Lydia (Starret) Bethel and had previously lived in Canal Fulton.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bethel served 3-1/2 years in the U.S. Army.
He earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Kent State University, them spent 36 years as an educator and administrator for several school districts. Mr. Bethel started his career as teacher, then superintendent of New Lyme/Demming Local Schools, New Lyme Township. He later became superintendent of Beach City Schools, Beach City, them went to work with the Stark County Board of Education as a high school supervisor.
In 1978, Mr. Bethel retired as superintendent of Northwest Local Schools in Canal Fulton and Clinton. After retirement, he served as interim superintendent of Marlington and Fairless High Schools and served on Canal Fulton City Council.
He was a member of the Ohio Association of Local Superintendents, the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, the Ohio School Boards Association and the American Association of School Administrators.
Mr. Bethel was a member of the Canal Fulton Rotary Club and of Millersburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Grace (Day); three daughters, Susan Learmouth of Washington, D.C., Julie Purcell of Durham, N.C., and Sally Murphy of Akron; six grandchildren, Michael, Amy and Tim Learmouth, Ted and Dan Forringer and Ryan Murphy; and two sisters, Joy Bethel of Shelby and Mae Bethel of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Russell and Robert; and two brothers, Walter and Emery.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Millersburg United Methodist Church, 5395 Killdeer Drive, Millersburg, with the Rev. Karl Stonebreaker officiating. Burial will be in Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville Township.
No calling hours will be observed.
