Robert O. Tupper

Robert O. Tupper, age 85, longtime resident of Dorset, died late Thursday evening at the UHHS-Conneaut Medical Center.
He was born July 5, 1926 in Akron, the son of the late Boyd M. & Laura F. (Bullinger) Tupper. Bob graduated from North High School in Akron and attended Akron Art University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp during WWII and was stationed overseas in the South Pacific, Guam, Okinawa & Tsingtao, China. He was awarded the Purple Heart in the Battle of Okinawa.
Bob spent years in the entertainment field as a ventriloquist, along with his partners “Skeeburt Skiddaddle” & “Silly Sally”. He worked at radio stations in Akron, Canton and Ashtabula. Bob hosted the WICA Club for young listeners and Top 40 Shows in the Ashtabula area in the 50’s & 60’s. Bob moved to television in Erie, PA at WJET-TV and hosted the Ronald McDonald Kid’s Show, as well as doing the weather along with various other programs. He also worked for the Jefferson Gazette as the display advertising manager. He spent his retirement years entertaining service organizations, activity clubs and churches.
His many hobbies included traveling, which included many Amtrak train trips throughout the west, camping, auctions, garage sales, photography and drawing cartoons for the ventriloquist magazine, the “Dialogue”. Bob served as a Dorset Twp. Trustee, on the SCAD ambulance board, past president of the Ashtabula Co. Township Assoc., and was a member of the VFW, Post #943 in Ashtabula. He also attended the Dorset Baptist Church.
He will be missed dearly by his friends and family, especially his beloved wife of 50 years, Caroline S. (Fink), whom he married on April 22, 1961 in Ripley, NY. Bob also leaves his partners, “Skeeburt Skiddaddle” & “Silly Sally” & his little fur-kid, “Trixie”, several nieces and nephews and many great & great-great nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Bess Klokoc. A brother, Boyd, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Ed Pickard of the Dorset Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery with American Legion Post #103 offering full military honors.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 7-9 P. M. and Tuesday from 10-11 A. M. at the funeral home. Maxine V. White
August 16, 1923 - October 14, 2011

Maxine V. White, age 88, longtime Jefferson area resident, went home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center where she had been a patient the past nine days.
She was born August 16, 1923 in Fairmont, WV, the daughter of Herman & Martha (Cooper) Boyce and came to Ashtabula Co. in 1950 from Fairmont, WV. She was a 1941 graduate of Fairmont East High School and was married to Walter C. “Coke” White on June 14, 1946 in Fairmont.
Mrs. White was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning and did ceramics. She was formerly active with a Wednesday afternoon bowling league and attended the Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include five children, Donna P. (Larry) Browning of Jefferson, Jennifer D. (Paul) Demshar of Ashtabula, Doug C. (Debbie) White of Lenox Twp., Kim A. (John) Barker of Conneaut & Jeffrey S. (Tammy) White of Saybrook Twp., 12 grandchildren, Dwayne Presciano of Dallas, TX, Kelly Reinke of Jefferson, Lindsay Haas of Ft. Worth, TX, Matthew Dempshar of Geneva, Rebekah Zelenka of Jacksonville, FL, Katy White-Dreier of Cortland, Doug White, Jr. of Lenox Twp., Ashley Hall of Jefferson, Johnny Barker with the USAF & Eric Hatfield Heather & Holly White, all of Ashtabula, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister, Christine Hostutler of Fairmont, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter in 2008, a daughter, Virginia at birth and four sisters and two brothers.
Private services will be held for the family with burial in Lenox Center Cemetery. Charles L. Smith
SHAKER HEIGHTS - Charles L. Smith, 71, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Cleveland. He lived in Shaker Heights for 15 years, moving there from Mentor.
Mr. Smith married Joan Constance Fuggitt on Feb. 19, 1957, in Cleveland.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a tail gunner during the Korean War. He had been superintendent for Fair Park Residence in Shaker Heights since 1988.
Mr. Smith enjoyed tinkering with mechanics. His greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Pearl Fickes of Chardon; a daughter, Peggy Husarcik of Troy Township; sons Guy Hale of Chardon, Charles Smith of Shaker Heights, and Michael Smith of Canton; grandchildren Richard Hale of Mentor, Jennifer Hale of Parma, Michael and David Husarcik of Troy Township, and Constance Smith of Shaker Heights; sisters Margaret Gill of Hambden Township and Elaine Fishleigh of Chardon; and brothers Jack Smith of Chesterland and Tom Smith of Mentor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, in 1998.
Memorial service is 4:30 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Ministries, 1441 Lander Road, Mayfield Heights, officiated by The Rev. Pastor Curtiss Grams. Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township.
Family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Joseph Domingos
EASTLAKE - Joseph Domingos, 97, formerly of Madison, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Willoughby.
Mr. Domingos was born Sept. 20, 1904, in Ilgarve, Portugal. He was a security guard at the former Uniroyal plant in Fairport Habor for 22 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in Italy and North Africa.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his daughter, Darla Kavanaugh of Eastlake; a son, Joseph of Kirtland; three grandchildren, Laura Lewarski of Eastlake, Susan Burless of Rock Creek, and Cynthia Fishley of Madison; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Kathryn Domingos.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
Visitation is from noon until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Patrick T. Garvey
MARIETTA Patrick Troy Garvey, 46, died June 2, 2001, at his home in Marietta.
He was born Feb. 23, 1955, in Ashtabula, the son of Robert and Helen (Young) Garvey.
Mr. Garvey was a 1973 graduate of Ashtabula High School, where he was active in sports. He attended the College of Marietta.
Mr. Garvey was a third round draft choice of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team in 1973 and pitched in their farm system for three years before arm troubles caused him to retire.
Survivors include nine aunts and uncles, as well as numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Covenant Church, 3300 Carpenter Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Robin Cumberland officiating.
Cremation was handled by American Cremation Service in Dayton.
Martha E. Mills
YOUNGSTOWN - Martha E. Mills, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at the Park Vista Nursing Home, Youngstown.
She was born Oct. 14, 1910, in Apollo, Pa., the daughter of Taylor F. and Iva Mae Shellhammer.
Mrs. Mills graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1928 and the Ashtabula General Hospital of Nursing in 1931 with an registered nursing degree.
She married Harold J. Mills on June 15, 1935.
Mrs. Mills had lived in Warren since 1949, when her husband became the executive manager of the Warren Area Chamber of Commerce.
She was very active in many women's organizations. In 1958, she was named Warren's Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Club. In February 1964, she was installed as secretary of the Trumbull County Chapter of the National Foundation of March of Dimes. She was president of the Warren's Woman's Club in 1965-67 and continued as a member.
In the summer of 1966, she headed a committee which organized the Warren Junior Womens League. She continued to be this organization's advisor. Other organizations included Warren Junior Patron Circle of the Child Conservation League; Warren City Federation of Womens' Club, Trumbull Town Hall, Trumbull New Theater, Warren Civic Music, Trumbull County Historical Society, the Board of Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the League of Women Voters.
In 1987, the American Red Cross presented her with a special citation for exceptional volunteer service. She continued to help with the Red Cross blood program.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Johnson of Watsonville, Calif. and Melinda Mills of Winterhaven, Fla.; two sons, Fred of Colleyville, Texas and Harold of Freemont; and two brothers, Paul Shellhammer of Ashtabula and Taylor Shellhammer of Glendale, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 21, 1997; her parents; two sisters, Helen Mills and Edna Smith; and two brothers Sidney and Lawrence Shellhammer.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, 271 N. Park Ave., Warren, with the Rev. William M. Youngblood and the Rev. Harry J. Mills officiating Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Edgewood Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Kathryn M. Peterson Oleson
EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - Kathryn M. Peterson Oleson, 95, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2001, at the Pleasant Ridge Manor West in Fairview, Pa.
She was born April 13, 1906, in Columbus, the daughter of Leonard and Eva (Sunderline) Hall.
She had lived in the East Springfield area for most of her life and was employed for more than 30 years at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She lived for 10 years in Simpsonville, S.C., returning to live with her daughter in East Springfield five years ago.
She was known as a woman who spoke her mind, and enjoyed collecting teddy bears and shopping for clothes and shoes.
Survivors include two daughters, Leatrice Manley of East Springfield, Pa., and Eva Ratkosky of Cleveland; a son Kevin Peterson of Simpsonville, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband James Peterson; her second husband Laurie Oleson; a son, Leonard; and twin sonsm James and Paul, shortly after birth.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Wednesday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover. The Rev. Larry Frient of Our Lady of Victory Church will officiate.
Private family visitation will take place at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, prior to the service.
