Alfred R. Goddard
SEDONA, Ariz. - Alfred Rand Goddard, 83, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, in Sedona, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Cleveland. His wife was Betty Beatrice.
Mr. Goddard attended schools in Madison and Painesville. He joined the U.S. Navy Aug. 17, 1936. He served on the battleships USS Texas in 1936­37, USS Arizona in 1937­41, auxiliary minesweeper USS Magpie AMC 2 in 1941, USS Sanderling in 1941, USS Grouse in 1941­43 and USS YMS 145 in 1943­45.
Upon being appointed chief warrant electrician, he was stationed on the USS Algol, AKA 54, and served throughout the Pacific Campaign as electrical officer, receiving nine citations for his naval service.
After the war, he became chief engineer of the El Cortez Hotel in Las Vegas; chief of the Silver Slipper, Last Frontier Village, Las Vegas; and chief of plant operations at the Showboat Hotel in Las Vegas from 1954 to 1964. In 1964, Mr. Goddard became the chief of operations at the Goleta Valley Hospital, retaining that position 14 years.
He was a 48-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Las Vegas; a member of the Scottish Rite; a lifetime member of the Kerak Shrine Temple in Reno, Nev., and a member of the Red Rock Memorial Lodge of Sedona. He was also a life member of VFW Post 7400, Bert Black Post, Cottonwood.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Sedona; a daughter, Carol A. Nunley of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; a son, Gary G. Goddard of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Unionville Cemetery, Harpersfield Township, officiated by the Rev. Robert Cunningham of the Unionville Church of Christ. Burial is in Unionville Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to the USS Arizona Reunion Association, P.O. Box 14435, Tucson, Ariz. 85732, which remembers the 1, 200 sailors who died on Pearl Harbor Day.

William K. Howes
DUBLIN - William Keith Howes, 31, of Dublin, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Riverside Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1971, in Columbus, the son of David and Nella Howes.
He worked as an engineering technician at the Columbus Convention Center, and was a member of the Echo United Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother; brothers Danny and David; and grandmothers Arlene Howes of Ashtabula, and Erie Spence.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington Chapel, 515 High St. Worthington. The Rev. Tony Clay will officiate. Burial will be at Hartsgrove Cemetery in Hartsgrove.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Cancer Clinic, 65 Ceramic Dr., Columbus, 43214.

Mary J. Anderson
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Mary Jane Anderson, 58, of Hatches Corners Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 5, 1943, in Monroe Township, the daughter of Otis M. and Marjorie (Hogle) Anderson, and had been an area resident her entire life.
She was employed by the Premix Corp. and also Nichols Department Store.
She was a member of State Line United Methodist Church, where she was the organist for several years. She also taught Sunday School and enjoyed working with children.
She enjoyed cooking and sewing.
Survivors include her parents; a sister, Ruth Spaulding of Mableton, Ga.; and a brother, David J. Anderson of Shippensburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clifford and Laura Langel Anderson, and Jay and Zella Hogle.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at State Line United Methodist Church, Route 84, Monroe Township, with the Rev. Ron Gamble and the Rev. Roger P. Hogle officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Jane E. Szewczyk
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Jane E. Szewczyk, 55, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at her home.
She was born June 10, 1946, she was the daughter of William Howard and Mearl Siegel.
She moved to Florida in December, 2000.
Mrs. Szewczyk was a registered nurse, and had been the owner and administrator for several elderly care homes in Geneva.
She was a member of the Assembly of God, Geneva.
Survivors include her son, Matthew Cobb of Punta Gorda, Fla., Christopher Cobb of Jefferson, and Michael Cobb of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Elizabeth Byers of Madison; her mother, Mearl Siegel of Perry; and a brother, Jon Siegel of Geneva.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Howard Siegel.
Memorial service will be held in Geneva at a later date.
Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, 1515 Tamiami Trail. Punta Gorda, Fla., has charge of arrangements.

Martha L. Kampf
ROME TOWNSHIP - Martha L. "Marty" Clark Kampf died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at her residence after battling the past two and half years with cancer.
Service is 2 p.m. Sunday at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman officiating.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cleveland Clinic Foundation Ovary Cancer Research, P.O. Box 931517, Cleveland 44101, or to Hospice of Ashtabula County, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula 44004.

Ralph E. Gutshall
TAMPA, Fla. - Ralph E. Gutshall, 56, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in Tampa.
He was born Aug. 22, 1945, in Cleveland, the son of Emerson J. and Martha V. (Shaffer) Gutshall.
Mr. Gutshall grew up in Conneaut, where he attended South Ridge Baptist Church and graduated from Rowe High School in 1963.
He was employed by Codeway TV, Conneaut, and moved to California in 1967. In 1973, he settled in Tampa, where he was employed by Sears as a service technician for 30 years until he retired on disability.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela (Prokolovich), whom he married Feb. 13, 1982; three sons Ryan, at home, Joseph, of Tampa, and Michael, of Melbourne, Fla.; and a sister Doris Davis of North Kingsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in 1964.
A Memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Church, Tampa, Fla., at the family's convenience.
No local services will be observed.
Blount, Curry and Roel Funeral Homes, 5101 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa, Fla., has charge of the arrangements.

Christopher W. Griffin
MODESTO, CALIF. - Christopher Waylon Griffin, 14, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Modesto Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an accident.
He was born Sept. 16, 1986, in Warren, the son of to Tiger and Lora Griffin.
He also lived in Orwell. He enjoyed basketball, skateboarding and four-wheeling.
Christopher is survived by his father and stepmother, Tiger and Sherri Griffin of Orwell; his mother and stepfather, Lora and Dennis Lindeman of Modesto, Calif; half brother Tyler Griffin of Orwell; stepsister Lisa Thomas of Orwell; stepbrothers Brandon and Tommy Haines of Modesto, Calif.; and grandparents Laurel and Doris Griffin of Orwell, and Gary and Lora McCormick of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
