Damon C. Paternaster
MARYSVILLE, Calif. - Damon C. Paternaster, 35, formerly of East Springfield, Pa., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 7, 1966, in Coronado, Calif., the son of Sherry and Arthur Bankes of East Springfield, Pa., and Terry Paternaster.
He worked in California as manager of a car wash and several other odd jobs around California.
He grew up in East Springfield, Pa., where he played Little League baseball and, in his early teens, delivered newspapers for the Cosmopolite Herald. He graduated in 1985 from Northwestern High School, Albion, Pa., where he participated in the athletic program in baseball and track and field events.
He became a certified emergency medical technician through the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department and served with the U.S. Army in the 91 Alpha paramedic unit in Oakland. He also earned a sharpshooter medal during his Army service.
He enjoyed building model cars, playing guitar, and composing music on his keyboard. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He always enjoyed the companionship of his pets.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine L. (Marmon); a brother, Art Bankes of Mesa, Ariz.; and two sisters, Deanna Calladine of East Springfield, and Missy Raiser of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Life Community Church, Fairview, Pa., with the Rev. Abe Williams officiating. A graveside service will follow at Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, Pa.

Karen L. Temple
FLANDERS, N.J. - Karen L. Temple, 60, of Oakwood Village, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville.
She was born April 26, 1942, in Seattle, Wash., the daughter of George and Frances (Hoffman) Wrenholt.
She married Ashtabula High School graduate Fred R. Temple on Nov. 11, 1962, after they met in Lincoln, Neb., during his first permanent stationing in the U.S. Air Force.
Mrs. Temple enjoyed reading, cooking, music, singing, and Broadway musicals. She played the piano and clarinet.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Frederick J. of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Julie Ann Temple of Sicklerville, N.J.; four brothers, Thomas Wrenholt of Leadville, Colo., James Wrenholt of Lincoln, Neb., John Wrenholt of Norfolk, Neb., and Ronald Wrenholt of Chanhassen, Minn.; and her parents of Clearwater, Neb.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. John Germaine officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours are from noon to the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Jonathan A. Massaro
FAIRBORN - Jonathan Aaron Massaro, 23, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle crash in Dayton.
Born July 22, 1978, in Claridon Township, he was a son of David and Patricia (Murray) Massaro and grew up in Chardon and Munson before moving to Fairborn in 1997.
He was a shipping and receiving manager at Sears in Beaver Creek for the past three years. He had completed two years at Wright State University, Dayton, as a business finance major. He was a 1997 graduate of Chardon High School.
Mr. Massaro had played soccer in high school and with Geauga YMCA Soccer. He also enjoyed golf, scuba diving, hiking and other outdoor activities.
While living in Munson, he was a member of St. Helen's Church, Newbury Township, and the Scuba Club of Willoughby.
Survivors include his parents of Manchester, N.H.; a brother, Christopher of Winchester, Ky.; a sister, Stacia Massaro of Lexington, Ky., and maternal grandparents, Thomas and Ruth Murray of Westlake.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Anne Massaro.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Helen's Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township, with the Rev. Jay McPhillips officiating. Cremation will follow with inurnment 11 a.m Feb. 16 at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon. Family will meet friends at the entrance of the cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon.

Alice J. Kilker
SHAKER HEIGHTS - Alice J. Kilker, 87, formerly of Ashtabula, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Greens of Lyndhurst Nursing Home, Lyndhurst.
Mrs. Kilker was born Oct. 7, 1914, in Ashtabula.
She was a homemaker and beauty specialist. She also worked at Halle Brothers Department Store.
Mrs. Kilker's hobbies included travelling, playing cards, and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis J. of Euclid, Jack F. of Shaker Heights; a daughter, Marian K. Shaughnessy of Shaker Heights; 10 grandchildren, Thomas M. III, Sean P., Timothy J., Dennis, Kristen and Bridget Kilker, Kelly Schlereth, Anne and Kate Shaughnessy, and Shannon M. Brooks; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Sr.; and two sons, Thomas M. Jr. and Jerome P.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic Church, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Heights. The Rev. Martin J. Amos will officiate.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brown-Forward Funeral Home, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Heights.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Saybrook Township.

Robert N. Basen
LAKEWOOD - Robert N. Basen, 88, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, in Conneaut.
He was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Cleveland, the son of Jacob and Lillian (Carter) Basen.
He married Frances Stewart on Dec. 26, 1938, they were married 53 years before her death in 1991.
He attended school in Cleveland and in Conneaut.
Mr. Basen worked on Lake Erie ore boats and served in the U.S. Army before World War II, being stationed in Hawaii.
He then worked for the Railway Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 1972.
Mr. Basen was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church for 55 years and was active in volunteer work and Sunday School at the church. He also was a member of the Barton Center, Lakewood.
He was a member of Rocky River Lodge 703 Free & Accepted Masons and enjoyed golf and bowling well into his 80's.
Survivors include his brother, Bill of Torrence, Calif.; five children, Ron of Conneaut, Jim of North Kingsville, Nancy May of Whitehouse, Robert of Rocky River and Mary Kaim of Cleveland; 57 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Clayton, Walt and Frank and a grandson, Robert A.
Service is 3 p.m. Saturday at the Amboy United Methodist Church, 554 W. Main St., Conneaut, with Dr. John Graham and Rev. Gina Kim officiating.
The Saxton-Parker-Daniels Funeral Chapel Inc., 15800 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, has charge of the arrangements.
Sylvia E. Honkonen
DENMARK TOWNSHIP - Sylvia E. Honkonen, 86, of South Denmark Road, Denmark Township, died Sunday morning, Oct. 8, 2000, at the Park Haven Nursing Home in Ashtabula, where she had lived the past six years.
She was born July 5, 1914, in Finland, the daughter of Alexander and Emma Marie Santanen, and had lived in Denmark Township most of her life.
She worked many years at Champion Box Co., in Jefferson, married Toivo "John" Honkonen on Jan. 26, 1957.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jefferson, and enjoyed her cats and playing the mandolin.
She is survived by a niece, Linda Santanen of Lakewood; two nephews, Robert Jokinen of Mt. Clemson, Mi., and Carl Jokinen of Tustin, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1983; a brother, Arvid Santanen; and a sister, Emma Santanen.
Service is 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. David T. Hill of the First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in South Denmark Cemetery.
Calling hour at the funeral home is 1:30 p.m. Thursday until the time of service.

Alexander J. Lueders
HARTSGROVE - Alexander J. Lueders, one day old, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital, Cleveland.
Alexander was the son of Martin J. and Lynn A. (Sahatjian) Lueders.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Hannah L.; a brother, Zachary J.; paternal grandparents, John and Geraldine Lueders of Hartsgrove; maternal grandparents, Harry and Louise Sahatjian of W. Patterson, N.J.; paternal great-grandmother, Rita Graf of Tucson, Ariz.; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Chapel of All Souls Cemetery, Chardon. The Rev. Gary Dilley and Rev. Howard Remski of Queen of the Holy Rosary, Vienna, officiating. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the chapel from 12:30 until the time of the service.
