Daniel A. Grubke
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Daniel Anthony Grubke, 74, of Monroe Center, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Kingsville, the son of Anthony and Theresa (Basinski) Grubke.
A Korean War veteran, he worked for the Nickel Plate, Norfolk and Western and Norfolk Southern railroads for 41 years, retiring in 1987 as a crane operator.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed riding his golf cart with his dogs Teddy and Toby. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nora M. Simons, to whom he had been married 49 years; a son, James Grubke of Monroe; a daughter, Sara Kreisher of Monroe; four sisters, Rose Williams and Viola Copeck, both of Conneaut, Frances Reydak of Kingsville, and Amelia Brown of East Springfield, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Hattie and Sharon Grubke, and Kara and Riley Kreisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ted, Ed and Joe Grubke; three sisters, Irene Kedzierski, Stella Trayford and Anna Reydak; and a grandson, Daniel James Grubke.
Following cremation, a grave-side service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Kelloggsville Cemetery. The Rev. Pastor Meredith Coleman of Jefferson United Methodist Church will officiate.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Monroe United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity.
Jacob J. Hannold
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Jacob Joseph Hannold, the infant son of Jennifer Foster and R. Joseph Hannold, died at birth Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Kathy Joe Jones of Buffalo, N.Y.; a brother, Nickolas Merlene of Conneaut; maternal grandparents Peggy Lee and David Goodiel of Ashtabula; and paternal grandmother Roberta Hannold of Monroe Township.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers William Lee and Richard Hannold.
Grave-side service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, officiated by The Rev. Barbara Johnson of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ashtabula.
The Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, is in charge of arrangements.
Lyda J. Knapper
HUDSON - Lyda J. Knapper, 87, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of William J. and Mary Jane (Jackson) Becker.
A Madison resident until 1999, she had lived in Hudson for the past three years.
She was a homemaker and ran a small family farm on Route 84 in Madison. She was a Sunday School teacher in Pittsburgh, Pa., at Park Friendship Methodist Church for 25 years.
Mrs. Knapper was a member of Chapel United Methodist Church, Madison. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in the 1960s.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jane Wallhausser of Berea, Ky., and Lyda Lee of Hudson; a son, Richard H. Jr. of Hudson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Richard H., in 1978.
Service is 3 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel United Methodist Church, 2019 N. Hubbard Road, Madison Township, with Rev. Sue Ann Schmidt of First Congregational Church, Hudson, and the Rev. Vernon Shepherd of the church officiating.
Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.

Robert H. Lesh
HERNANDO, Fla. - Robert Harry Lesh, 80, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at the Citrus Health and Rehab Center, Inverness, Fla.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Madison, the son of Harry and Verlie (Harris) Lesh, and moved to Florida from Geneva in 1985.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a retired machinist with the Brake Division of Rockwell International, Saybrook Township.
He was a member of the Hernando Church of the Nazarene and United Auto Workers Local 274.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret (Sheeley); two daughters, Nancy Bell of Jefferson, and Linda Heil of Willoughby; a brother, Sheldon of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Service is 10 a.m. Thursday at the Charles E. Davis Funeral, 3075 S. Florida Ave., Inverness, Fla. The Rev. Nancy Johnson, associate pastor of the Hernando Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery of Bushnell, Fla.
Calling hour at the funeral home is 9 a.m. Thursday until time of service.
Joseph A. Scaperato
CONCORD TOWNSHIP - Joseph A. Scaperato, 77, died May 13, 2002, at his daughter's home, Precious Care Assisted Living.
Prior to this, he raised his two daughters in Chester Township and was a resident of Chardon and Painesville.
He was born July 13, 1924, in Cleveland, the son of Joseph and Antoinette (Castrigano) Scaperato.
Mr. Scaperato worked as a cement contractor for his father's business and followed as a machine operator at Eaton Stamping. Later, he worked for Pepsi-Cola, then as a title runner for Classic Chevrolet.
Survivors include his daughters, Gloria Schultz of Concord Township, and Gail Young of Chardon; five grandchildren, Jim and David Morris, and Christina, Gina, and Dana Young; a brother, Rocco; and three sisters, Rose Herringshaw, Babe Petti, and Rita Habaly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Amelia Franklin; and two brothers, Michael and David.
Service is 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church of Painesville. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
No calling hours will be observed.

Jane L. Blystone
ROAMING SHORES - Jane L. Blystone, 68, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
The daughter of Boyd A. and S. Louise (Wherry) Prescott, she was born May 8, 1932, in Apollo, Pa.
Mrs. Blystone was a 1950 Elders Ridge High School graduate and attended business college in Pittsburgh, Pa.
She married Donald E. Blystone in November 1951 in Spring Church, Pa.
She was a member of Rome Presbyterian Church, and was a Girl and Boy Scout leader in Bethel Park, Pa.
She was a PTA member with the Bethel Park schools and was a member of the Welcome Wagon and Fifth Wheel Club of Boardman.
Blystone was an avid reader and enjoyed baking, crossword puzzles and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Debra A. Blystone of Boardman, Susan L. DeToro of Austintown, Donna J. Naughton of Fairview, Pa., and Sally J. Noble of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sons, David A. of Canfield and Daniel L. of Austintown; two sisters, Lucille Rearick of Indiana, Pa., and Patricia Myers of Apollo, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James M.; and a brother, Byron Prescott.
Service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 3119 W. Water St., Rock Creek, with lay pastor Gordon Emerson of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Ninevah North East Cemetery, Rome Township.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
George Milton Beardow
JENSEN BEACH, Fla. George Milton Beardow, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie Residence, Stuart, Fla.
A native of Meriden, Conn., he lived in Jensen Beach for 30 years. For the past 12 years he and his wife have spent summers in Ashtabula.
Before retirement, he was an electrical engineer with Bell Telephone Laboratories, New York, for 10 years.
He enjoyed playing tennis and sailing.
Survivors include his wife, Rose (Koi); a son, Warren of East Haven, Conn.; three daughters: Barbara Fleck of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jane Parmelee of Middlefield, Conn., and Marcia Munzing of Stuart; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service was Sept. 30 at Aycock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach. The Rev. L.C. Campbell officiated.
