Dorothy M. Williams
MONROE TOWNSHIP – Dorothy M. Williams, 83, of Hilldom Road, Monroe Township, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 24, 1920, in Blackwater, Va., a daughter of Lewis and Rosa (Mullins) Alder. She was a resident of Monroe Township for the past 20 years, having relocated from Cleveland. While in Cleveland, she was employed as an assistant administrator for Valley Springs Nursing Home.
During her eight-month battle with terminal cancer, she was featured in a Star Beacon article by Carl E. Feather, which described her Appalachian roots and the culture of her period in time. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, canning, gardening, nurturing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her kind, gentle and loving nature. She was the guiding light of her family, and her courage and dignity in the face of her overwhelming illness set an example for us all.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Carver D. Williams, whom she married June 14, 1942; two sons, David C. and his wife, Wanda, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Lewis A. and his wife, Danese, of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; one brother, Cass Alder of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; six grandchildren, David A. Williams and wife, Rhonda, Michelle Connolly and husband, Patrick, Jason Williams and Becky, Melissa Williams and Matt, Amanda and Gayle Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Connolly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter Miranda; and a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Runyan.
Funeral services will be on Friday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at the Marcy Funeral Home, 298 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Fred Grimm, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Jefferson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, April 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Williams family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff members of the Hospice of Ashtabula County for their care and comfort during her final days.
LeRoy L. Craxton
MONTVERDE, Fla. - LeRoy Landon Craxton, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003.
He moved to Montverde 19 years ago from Madison.
Mr. Craxton was treasurer of the Montverde Mobile Home Association and enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ellen Reece; daughters Gayla Craig of York, S.C. and Cheryl Price of Montverde; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Edward and Edith Craxton; and brothers Robert and Edward Craxton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Philip A. Cress
AKRON - Philip A. Cress Jr., 53, of Portage Lakes in Akron, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born June 21, 1949, the son of Philip A. Sr. and Kathleen Cress, in Ravenna. He lived in Canton before moving to Portage Lakes six years ago.
Mr. Cress was a former owner of The Tavern in Kent, and was employed as a sales executive for Toccoa Packaging Inc. and Service Packaging Corp.
He attended St. Michael's Catholic Church in Canton and was a mentor and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Mr. Cress was an avid golfer, playing in several leagues and enjoyed annual vacations with his wife and in-laws.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Kathleen Krohn-Cress; a brother, Steven Cress of Canton; and sisters Dian Cress of Canton and Patty Clark of Mentor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral mass and celebration of life will take place 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The Rev. Bradford Helman will officiate.
Although burial is private, friends are invited to attend Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Conneaut.
Friends and family are gathering between 11:30 and 1:30 p.m. at Pape's Restauraunt.
Calling hours are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Church.

Emma L. Harris
MAGNOLIA, Miss. - Emma Lee Harris, 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia.
She was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Magnolia, the daughter of J.D. and Beatrice Hughes.
Prior to retirement, she worked in the dietary department of Beacham Memorial Hospital for more than 13 years.
Mrs. Harris was a member of the New Home Baptist Church, served on the usher board and performed mission work for the church.
Known for her dependability, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Beatrice Hughes and Doate McDowell, both of McComb, Miss.; four daughters, Dorothy Harris and Montrose Cooper, both of Ashtabula, Judy Harris of Magnolia, Miss. and Linda Thomas of New Orleans, La.; six grandchildren, Philip and Terakietha Thomas, and John Jr., Josh, Dameon and James Cooper; four sisters, Maxine Tate of Brookhaven, Miss. and Judy Smith, Betty Hughes and Jeanette Hughes, all of McComb, Miss.; and four brothers, Robert Hughes and Willie Hughes, both of Ashtabula, Herbert Hughes of Washington, D.C. and Tommy Hughes of St. Pauls, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Harris, whom she married on Dec. 24, 1953; a daughter, Jane Marie Harris; a sister, Linda Mayberry; a brother, Larry Hughes; and an aunt, Emma Hayes.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Home Baptist Church in Magnolia, Miss.
Calling hour is noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

James E. Webb
ORANGE CITY, Fla. - James Earl Webb, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Fish Memorial Hospital in Orange City, Fla.
He was born in Creston and moved to Orange City from Jefferson 24 years ago.
Mr. Webb was a World War II and Korean War veteran and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Silver Star Medal, American Defense Service medal and five Bronze Stars during his military career.
He was a retired maintenance officer with the federal government and was retired from the Ohio National Guard and civil service in Ohio. He was a member of the Ashtabula County Sheriff Department and a volunteer firefighter in Jefferson County in Ohio.
He married Alice Gengler 56 years ago in Akron.
Mr. Webb was president of the Magnolia Club at Country Village in Orange City, followed the Protestant faith and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carla Christopher of Thonotosassa, Fla., and Cheryl Shepard and Cynthia Au, both of Jefferson; a brother, Jack Webb of Wadsworth; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Colletta R. Eckenrode
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Colletta R. Eckenrode, 95, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at her daughter's home in Port Charlotte.
She was born Aug. 26, 1906, in Lily, Pa., the daughter of Christ and Rose (Conley) Bost. She moved to Florida from Geneva in 1998.
She worked as a sales clerk for the W.T. Grant department store, Johnstown, Pa., before moving to Geneva. She later owned and operated Colonial Tourist Home between 1953 and 1980.
She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Poje of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Dorothy Conley of Geneva; a son, Francis of Geneva; two sisters, Veronica Sanders of Lily, Pa., and Margaret McNally of Cresson, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl, in 1970; and a son, Donald J., in 1998.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Church, 594 W. Main St., Geneva, with the Rev. Paul Tobin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Geneva.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva.
Helen M. Grady
EUSTIS, Fla. - Helen M. Grady, 82, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Waterman Hospital, Eustis, Fla.
She was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Hubbard, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Paulson) Yohman.
Along with her husband, Gerald, she owned and operated the Rosey O'Grady Antique Shop, Madison. She also worked with children while living in Florida.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Larry Quickel Jr., of Perry, and Terri Bartle of Eustis, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters in the Youngstown and Hubbard areas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two daughters Florence Marie and Betty Anne.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva, with the Rev. Dean Roush officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva.
