Leland H. Hutton

Leland H. Hutton, age 89, former Bulah Rd., Denmark Twp. resident, and resident of the Jefferson Healthcare Center the past two years, died early Wednesday morning at the Grand Valley Country Manor where he had been a patient the past three weeks.
He was born August 30, 1918 in Bedford, PA, the son of Ephraim S. & Bertha (Younker) Hutton and has been a resident of the Jefferson area since 1978, coming from Cleveland. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy.
Mr. Hutton owned and operated Hutton Steel Engineering Ent., LTD, Inc. in Cleveland, he also owned Hutton Horse Farm in Jefferson, raising race horses and at one time owning 89 race horses. He enjoyed farming and was a horse racing enthusiast. He was a member of the New York Jockey Association and the American Quarter Horse Association, the Ashtabula Co. Farm Bureau and the Iron & Steel Engineers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Angeline “Ann” (Emanuele) Hutton, whom he married on July 6, 1946 in Cleveland, five children, Leland L. (Kathy) Hutton of Bristolville, Ronald E. (Raenel) Hutton of Jefferson, Susan “Pat” (Chuck) Bailey of Mantua, Christina M. (David) Schuld of Valley View and Frederick J. (Kathy) Hutton of Oklahoma City, OK, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kenneth A. Hutton.
Private services will be held at the families’ convenience. The Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directrors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.
Daisy Baskerville

Daisy C. Baskerville, 69 of McNutt Ave. Saybrook Township died unexpectly Wednesday (Jan. 9th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born March 17, 1938 in Louisville, Mississippi the daughter of Titus and Agnes (Estes) Miller.
She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1957 where she was on the National Honor Society and graduated from Kent State University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She taught school in Chicago from 1964 to 1980 and in the Ashtabula Area City Schools from 1980 until her retirement in 2001 mostly in Saybrook School.
She was active in the Ashtabula Arts Center where she wrote and produced two plays. She has appeared on radio and television discussing Black History and the Underground Railroad in Ashtabula County. She was involved with many civic organizations including the United Way, the Mary Chatman Community Woman of the Year; the NAACP where she had served as a Vice President. She was in the Charter Class of LEADERship Ashtabula County. She was a past trustee fro the Arts Center, the Mary Chatman Center, The United Way and of the Hubbard House Museum.
Surviving her is her brother, Willie Miller of Ashtabula, her sisters, Ollie Coleman, Annie Parker and Helen Ball all of Ashtabula and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James E., Robert and Charles Miller and her sister, Laura Owens.
Funeral service will be Monday (Jan. 14th) at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 4317 Park Ave. Ashtabula with Dr. Stephen Long officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Twp. Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday (Jan. 13th) from 5 to 8 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.
Jeffrey L. Loomis, Jr.

Jeffrey L. “Bo” Loomis, Jr., age 29, Stollacker Rd., Denmark Twp., died early Saturday morning from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born July 31, 1978 in Ashtabula, the son of Jeffrey L. & Tamela A. (Newhart) Loomis, Sr. and has been a resident of the Jefferson area most of his life.
Jeffrey worked with his father in the recycling business, he loved music, playing the guitar and drums, enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler and tinkering with cars and trucks. He also loved his time spent with his children, family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Jeffrey & Tamela Loomis of Denmark Twp., three children, Austin L., Alyssa M. & Anthony P. Loomis, a step-son, Jamie Jewells, five siblings, Joyce (Kurt) West of Perry, Wendy Loomis of Geneva, Patricia Loomis of Oxford, Jimmy (Mary) Loomis of Geneva & Justin Loomis of Jefferson, 14 nieces & nephews, numerous aunts & uncles and his former wife, Tonya (Durkin) Loomis.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Beverly Overly Newhart in 1976, Davey Newhart in 1999, Joyce Loomis in 1972 & Paul E. Loomis in 2006.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Dan Loomis and the Rev. Roger Loomis officiating, uncles of the deceased.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8 P. M. at the Jefferson home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. George W. Ewing

George W. Ewing, age 88, E. Union Rd., Lenox Twp., died Saturday morning in a farming accident on one of the family farms.
He was born November 9, 1919 in Coffeyville, KS, the son of Clyde E. & Lucy P. (Workman) Ewing and has lived on E. Union Rd. in Lenox Twp. for more than 80 years after the family moved here from Oklahoma. Mr. Ewing was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Air Corp. He was married to Josephine C. Kelner on September 28, 1946 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church.
He was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson. He spent most of his life in Lenox Twp. running a large dairy farm and then went into beef and crop farming after selling his dairy. He loved to farm, hunt, fish, spend time with his family and friends and tell numerous stories about his earlier years. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was recognized as the Lenox Twp. Citizen of the Year in 1985, served as Lenox Twp. Trustee and on the Lenox Twp. Board of Education.
Survivors include four sons, Daniel G. Ewing & Larry J. Ewing, both of Jefferson, Gary W. Ewing & Ted. R. (Barb) Ewing, both of Lenox Twp., four grandchildren, Jason D. (Brandy) Ewing & Kristen J. Ewing, both of Ashtabula, Annette J. (Chad) Crouch of Gahanna & David M. Ewing of Jefferson and four great-grandchildren, Raven, Taylor, Gabrielle & Seth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Josephine in 1995, a grandson, John T. Ewing in 1999, a daughter-in-law, Carolyn S. Ewing in 2003 and a brother, Bert E. Ewing in 1999.
The funeral mass will be held Friday, January 4, 2008 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson at 11:00 A. M. with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial will be in Lenox Center Cemetery. Geneva Post #6846 will provide full military honors at the graveside.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6-8 P. M. and Friday from 9:30-10:30 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. A prayer service will be held Thursday at the end of the visitation period. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Calasanctius Church.
George F. Livingston

George F. Livingston, 89 of Conley Rd. Saybrook Twp. died Tuesday (Dec. 25th) at University Hospitals of Geneva. He was born February 12, 1918 in Ashtabula the son of Irving H. and Elizabeth (Scheipel) Livingston and has been a lifetime area resident.
He was a 1936 graduate of Harbor High School and served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.
He was the owner of the West Side Variety Store also known as “George’s Store” from 1948 to 1967, he is fondly remembered for giving nickels for any neighborhood student receiving an A on their report cards. He retired from the Post Office and also served as secretary for NARFE for many years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church where he volunteered at the food pantry and also sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Ashtabula coin club and the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society. He was a donor to the Marine Museum. He enjoyed coin collecting, stamp collecting and leather post card collecting. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving him are his wife, Catherine (Diemer) Livingston who he married, October 31, 1942; a son, George (Rose) Livingston of Geneva; three grandchildren, Kylee, Michael and C.J. Livingston and two great grandchildren, Chase and Payton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Andrew and a sister, Nora Edgerton.
Funeral mass will be Monday (Dec. 31st) at 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Mission – Our Lady of Miracles, 4317 West Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

Herbert Aldrich Brayman

Herbert Aldrich Brayman, 101, formerly of W. Morgan Rd., Plymouth Twp., died Friday afternoon at the Country Club Retirement Center where he has resided since 2001.
He was born November 15, 1906 in Pierpont, the son of Dixie & Nellie (Aldrich) Brayman and has been an Ashtabula Co. resident all of his life, living in Plymouth Twp. the past 62 years. He was married to Elsie R. Walker on October 8, 1932 in Fredonia, NY. Mr. Brayman retired in 1971 from Reliance Electric Corp. & previously worked from 1928-1965 at New York Central Railroad.
He was a member of the Austinburg First United Church of Christ where he was involved in the Over 49er’s and sang in the choir more than 40 years. Singing and music was always part of Mr. Brayman’s life, always singing in quartets, well into his retirement years. He and Mrs. Brayman received the Austinburg Country Days recognition. He was a member of the Reliance Retirees Club, he helped organize the Plymouth Twp. Zoning Committee and served on the Plymouth Elementary School Board. During the many years of his farm operation he hosted school classes for farm tours. Mr. Brayman was always helping others.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce A. (James) Jacobs, Janet M. (Gunter) Miggo & Marilyn K. (Lorain) Reese, all of Ashtabula, seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Brayman of Pierpont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elsie in 2003, a son at birth, a grandson, Mark Jacobs, a brother, Harry Brayman and three sisters, Mary Moore, Florence Stevens & Leah Leonard.
Memorial services will be held Friday, December 28, 2007 at 11:00 A. M. at the Austinburg First United Church of Christ, 2870 St. Rt. 307, Austinburg, with the Rev. Allison Milligan of the church officiating. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held immediately following the services at the church. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont Twp.
Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Janice M. Prickett

Janice May Prickett, 76 of North Ridge Rd. West Saybrook Twp. went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday morning on December 22, 2007. She was born May 25, 1931 in Ashtabula the daughter of Milton and Mildred (Beebe) Kaiser and she was a long-time member of the Saybrook community and a life-long resident of the Ashtabula. She was a 1949 graduate of Ashtabula High School.
She married James Prickett on June 10, 1950.
Janice was a very active member of the Saybrook United Methodist Church. She worked at several area businesses (Grants, True Temper and McDonald’). Janice loved crafts and sold her crafts at the Thanksgiving weekend Saybrook School craft show. She enjoyed helping others, she was always helping at her church with the community dinners at the church, missions committee, strawberry socials or whatever needed to be done. She was known for sending all kinds of cards to others (birthday, get well, anniversary, sympathy cards, etc..). Janice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending with her family, immediate family and her church family. She was a very loving, kind, and caring individual.
Surviving her is her loving husband, James; a daughter, Carolyn (Michael) Kierstead of Sandusky; a son, Michael (Joanne) Prickett of Ashtabula; one grandchild, Carly Kierstead (Matthew) Rogers of Sandusky; one great-granddaughter, Annaliese Aimee Rogers, a sister, Lou Tripepi of Willoughby; a brother, Dale Kaiser and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Thursday (Dec. 27th) at 11:00 AM at the Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 South Depot Rd. Saybrook Twp with Rev. James Macdonald and Rev. Donna Van Trees officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Twp. Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday (Dec. 26th) from 6 to 8 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
