James E. Ruble
COLEBROOK - James E. Ruble, 75, of Colebrook, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Grand Valley Country Manor Nursing Home, Windsor.
He was born April 3, 1926, in Shinston, W. Va., the son of Arch Ross and Marquite Harriet (Janes) Ruble.
Mr. Ruble served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a steel worker for Copperweld Steel in Warren for 34 years.
Mr. Ruble was a member of the Colebrook United Methodist Church and enjoyed flying and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, whom he married April 10, 1963 in Winchester, Va.; two sons, James Ruble Jr., of Mansfield and Gene Ruble of Vienna; a daughter, Danielle Matson of Ocean Springs, Miss.; a step-son, Donald Hartshorn of Orwell; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday at the grave site in Colebrook North Cemetery, Colebrook. The Rev. Richard Cheney of Colebrook United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Colebrook North Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed.
The Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 East Main St., Orwell is handling the arrangements.

Donald Tuomi
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Former area resident Donald Tuomi, 81, died March 12, 2002, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.
He was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Willoughby.
Mr. Tuomi earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1943 at The Ohio State University and doctorate in physical chemistry in 1953. He was a staff member of the Manhattan Project. In World War II he was involved at SAM Laboratories at Columbia University's Schermerhorn Building with the successful development of the barrier for the Oak Ridge diffusion plant, which led to the first atomic bomb using Uranium 235.
He formerly worked at Thomas A. Edison Industries and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. He retired in 1983 from Roy C. Ingersoll Research Center, Borg-Warner Corp., with the rank of senior scientist.
Mr. Tuomi was a member of the American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, American Crystallographic Society, The Electrochemical Society and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and American Institute of Chemists.
He received the Battery Division Research Award, the Chicago Technical Societies Award of Merit and was also recognized in "Who's Who of American Men in Science." For many years he was involved in the United Methodist Church and was a founding member of the Church of the Incarnation. He was also a 10-year volunteer for the Northwest Suburban PADS, a homeless shelter.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Elaine Campbell Tuomi; daughters, Dr. Donna Jean Beck of Arlington Heights and the Rev. Mary Ellen Hammond of Oberlin; a brother, Edward Pohjala of Parma; and six grandchildren.
A service was March 16 at Church of the Incarnation in Arlington Heights. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights handled arrangements.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Church of the Incarnation United Methodist, 330 W. Golf Road, Arlington Heights 60005.

Karl E. Hoffacker Sr.
WAYNE TOWNSHIP - Karl E. Hoffacker Sr., 84, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at his home.
Born Dec. 21, 1917, Cleveland, he was a son of Michael A. and Mabel (Moore) Hoffacker and was a 25-year area resident of Wayne, coming from Russell Township.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the armored division under General Patton.
Mr. Hoffacker worked with his father and uncle in their business, Hoffacker Brothers Painting, before owning his own business for 14 years, called the Old Paint Dauber. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Hoffacker was active in several steam and gas engine clubs, some of which include Burton and Wayne townships, Canfield Fair and Saegertown, Pa. He also served as chaplain of these organizations over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie (Simmonds), to whom he had been married for 59 years; two daughters, Faith Whitcomb and Kris Moore; two sons, Karl Jr. and Kurt; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Marguerite Gilbert.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hambden Congregational Church, 13840 GAR Highway, Hambden Township, with the Rev. John Dove and the Rev. Robert Murphey both of Grace Evangelical Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Hambden Township Cemetery.
Calling hours are 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Arne H. Laakso Jr.
BRIMFIELD - Arne H. Laakso, Jr., 57, of Tallmadge Road, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Mr. Laakso was born April 16, 1944, in Conneaut to Arne H. and Ruth M. (Kitnoja) Laakso. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was the manager of accounting at Kent State University, from which he also graduated. He was scheduled to retired Jan. 31.
Mr. Laakso will be remembered as a man who took deep pride in his children and his Finnish heritage. He attended Faith Lutheran Church in Kent. He was an avid collector who enjoyed bowling and a good cup of coffee.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Gartner), whom he married March 14, 1970; son, Brian Laakso of Akron; daughter, Jennifer "Genne" Laakso of Brimfield; two brothers, the Rev. David Laakso of Meadville, Pa., and Eric Laakso of Conneaut; and a sister, Shirley Brookhauser of Girard, Pa.
Mr. Laakso was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Karl Fry officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Brimfield.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home.

Cornelius Corrigan
CLEVELAND - Cornelius "Neil" Corrigan, 65, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Fairview General Hospital, Cleveland.
He was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Cleveland, the son of John P. and Catharine (Corbett) Corrigan. He moved to Cleveland 3 1/2 years ago after living in Chardon for 26 years.
He married Patricia Walsh on Nov. 27, 1965, in Chardon.
Mr. Corrigan worked as a bereavement counselor for Catholic Cemeteries of Cleveland for eight years. He previously worked as a teacher, marketing representative, salesman, advertising executive, and insurance representative.
He was a 1971 John Carroll University graduate earning a degree in English.
Mr. Corrigan was an avid gardener and renovator, and enjoyed cooking and baking, especially around the holidays.
He volunteered with homeless shelters and the local soup kitchen, and participated with different "Right to Life" organizations.
He was past member and parish council member of the Church of St. Mary, Chardon; a member and parish council member of St. Ignatius of Antioch; and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cleveland.
Mr. Corrigan loved and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and five young grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Honora Lopez of Cleveland, Erin Martin of Chester Township, Elizabeth McGann of Gahanna, Paul Corrigan of Chardon, and Leah Corrigan of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Chloe, Logan, Jovanni, Lily, and Braden; four brothers; and five sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother.
Service is noon Wednesday at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Thomas Gilles officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

Clarence J. DeMarco
CONCORD TOWNSHIP - Clarence J. DeMarco, 77, of Village Drive died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at LakeEast Hospital, Painesville.
He was born Aug. 29, 1924, the son of Joseph and Mary DeMarco.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; two sons, Tom of New Hampshire and Jim of Florida; five grandchildren, Tim, Jillian, Jason, Alex, and Jaime; and a sister, Ruth Cline of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Walter.
A private funeral service will be held by the family.

Arnold R. Hunt
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - Arnold Ruggles Hunt, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
He was born in Madison, the son of Allen and Maria Beck Hunt. He moved to Florida in 1977.
Survivors include a son, Arnold F. of Edgewater, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; and a son, David.
A private burial was held at Fairview Cemetery, Madison.
