Maria Tulajew
DUBLIN - Maria Tulajew, 83, a former Jefferson resident, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the Village of Westerville Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 21, 1918, in the Ukraine, to Vasil and Anna Belozerkovsky. She was a resident of Jefferson since 1958, moving from Cleveland. She moved to Dublin nine months ago to be with her daughter, for health reasons.
She married Sidor (Sam) Tulajew June 22, 1937, in the Ukraine. She was a member of St. Sergius Russian Orthodox Church in Cleveland.
Mrs. Tulajew enjoyed cooking, gardening and being with her family.
Survivors include children Tony Tulajew of Jefferson, Anne Birsa of Delta, Nina Urbank of Dublin, and Valentina Matycoba of the Ukraine; grandchildren Tina Thacker, Tiffani Lilly, Toni Tulajew, Christine Birsa, Alexis Urbank, Igor and Ena Matycoba; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sidor, in 1993; sisters Eva and Vera; and granddaughter Natasha.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the Fleming Funeral Home, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, officiated by Father Miroljub Ruzic of St. Nicolas the Wonderworker Orthodox Church in Columbus. Burial is in Lenox Center Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Mission Program, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, 44047. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Barbara A. Podojil
WAYNE TOWNSHIP - Barbara A. Podojil, 61, of Cream Ridge Road, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Grand Valley Country Manor, Windsor Township.
She was born July 6, 1940, in Cleveland, the daughter of John and Barbara (Magyar) Toth. She married James J. Podojil on Jan. 14, 1961.
Formerly of Garfield Heights, she had lived in Wayne Township since 1968.
Mrs. Podojil was a realtor for 2100 Realty, Orwell, for 15 years and was an auctioneer for 25 years.
She attended St. Mary's Church, Orwell, and was a member of the National and Ohio Associations of Realtors.
She enjoyed shopping, antiquing, and going to garage sales.
Survivors include her husband; a son, James J. III of Orwell; a daughter, Kimberly Harrington of Colebrook Township; a sister, Patricia Gibbons of East Palestine; and five grandchildren, Cindy Dobay, Rachelle Podojil, Nichole and Madison Rutter and Calvin Page.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service is 11 a.m., Thursday at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. Burial will be in St. Mary's Church Cemetery, Orwell.
Calling hours are noon to 3 and 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pauline Safford
COLUMBUS - Pauline Safford, 81, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at her home
She was born May 7, 1921, in Manila, W.Va., the daughter of Joseph and Zennie (Drake) Bias.
A graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in education, she was a sixth-grade teacher at Saybrook School from 1957 to 1966.
She later moved to Baltimore, Md, where she sold real estate. She retired from the Maryland Department of Employment Services.
Mrs. Safford enjoyed reading and playing bridge.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley, whom she married July 28, 1957, in Ashtabula; three daughters, Suzanne Beatty of Geneva, Linda L. Winters of West Jefferson, and Ellen Safford of Boulder, Colo.; a son, John of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Pam and Chris Beatty, Becca Winters, and Katelin Safford; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth Logan of New Jersey, Jo Ann Arnold and Janet Shaw of Columbus, and Cindy Bias of Mansfield; and two brothers, Carl Bias of Portsmouth and David Bias of Delaware.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Billie Frasher Hook.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. Wednesday in Kingwood Cemetery, Columbus.
The Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, has charge of the arrangements.
Lester L. Lewis
SOUTHINGTON - Lester L. Lewis, 75, of Southington, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the Imperial Skilled Care Center in Warren.
He was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Nelson, the son of Eugene and Mina (Randall) Lewis, and had been a lifelong area resident.
A 1944 graduate of Nelson High School, he served with the Army during World War II.
He worked as a foreman at U.S. Gypsum Co., retiring in 1985.
He was married 52 years to the former Rhea Chalker.
He enjoyed fishing and building and flying model airplanes.
Survivors include his wife and a sister, Faith Nickel of Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Marjorie Wegrich
KANKAKEE, Ill. Former area resident Marjorie W. Wegrich, 79, of Kankakee died Sept. 12, 2001, at her home.
She was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Terre Haute, Ind., the daughter of Emerald and Josephine Buscher Whitmer.
Mrs. Wegrich worked at Acme Building Supply for more than 20 years and retired from Richards Building Supply where she was manager for four years. She was a member of Women in Construction. She had been an Ashtabula area resident from 1957 to 1965.
She enjoyed bridge, animals, flower gardens and was an avid Cubs fan.
Survivors include two sons, Don of Kankakee and Bradley of Champaign, Ill.; four daughters, Mardona Treen of Ashtabula, Sue Idleman of White Heath, Ill., Lianne Balk of Kankakee and Lyn Glover of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Emerald Parks Whitmer of Carmichael, Calif.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Wegrich, and a brother, Harry C. Whitmer.

Kenneth L. Frink
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Kenneth L. Frink, 97, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas.
He was born Nov. 4, 1903, in Madison, the son of Clarence and Eva (Perry) Frink.
He married Vivian G. Wingard on June 11, 1932, in Chagrin Falls.
Mr. Frink worked as a stationary engineer for Diamond Alkali and had Baptist affiliations.
Survivors include two sons, James L and Robert K. of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988; and his parents.
Graveside service is 10 a.m. Saturday at North Madison Cemetery, Hubbard Road, Madison Township. The Rev. Bob Cunningham of the United Church, Geneva, will officiate.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison.
Corinne L. Owens
MOREHEAD City, N.C. - Corinne "Connie" Laurie Owens, 87, formerly of Pepperidge Drive, Geneva, and Stacy, N.C., died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at the Century Care in Morehead City.
Born on May 4, 1915, in Grove City, Ohio, Corinne was the daughter of John and Ella May Finney. Her foster parents, Ralph and Belle McMillan, of Marengo, Ohio, later raised her.
She was a graduate of Grove City High School. Mrs. Owens was a popular singer in many Cleveland supper clubs during the 1930s and 1940s, under the stage name of Connie Vance, singing with many big bands. In the 1970s, Mrs. Owens sold real estate for Stan-Mor Realty in Madison.
Mrs. Owens was a member of Park Street Christian Church in Geneva and attended The First Baptist Church in Stacy, N.C. She was an accomplished organist and singer, who also enjoyed gardening and reading.
Survivors include one son, Ted Laurie, of Stacy N.C.; three granddaughters, Coleen Herron of Ashtabula, Pamela Sawyer of Mentor, and Patricia Gibson of Laurinburg, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frank Laurie, in 1993; her second husband, Robert Owens, in 1999; six sisters; and four brothers.
Private services will be held at a later date in Ashtabula. Munden Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. handled the arrangements in Morehead City, N.C.
