Grace E. Emery
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Grace E. Emery, 70, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Monday, March 11, 2002.
She was born in Cleveland, and had lived in Jacksonville Fla., for the past 25 years.
A mother of seven, she was supportive of her children's hobbies, groups and activities, frequently joining in beside them.
In recent years, she was an avid Bingo player.
Survivors include six sons, Reid and Richard Walker of Conneaut, Raymond Walker of Girard, Robert Walker and Kevin Stowe of Georgia; a stepdaughter, Earline Stiltner; four stepsons, Daniel, Alvin, Ted, and Tom Stowe; a sister, Donna Wells of Columbus; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Douglas D. Stowe in 1974, and Earl J. Emery in 1999; her daughter, Alice R. DeMoss; and a great-grandson, Michael Walker.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the South Ridge Baptist Church, 924 Center St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Roger B. Hogle officiating.
The Town and Country Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Michael M. Simons
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Michael M. Simons, 98, of Monroe Township, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was born June 12, 1903, in Conneaut, the son of Fred F. and Callie (Mayberry) Simons.
He enjoyed a long, healthy and productive life in the Monroe area, participating in such activities as rural delivery of U.S. Mail by horse and wagon, operating a country general store in Monroe for 24 years, trucking, and raising and dealing livestock.
Mr. Simons served as an Ashtabula County Commissioner from 1949 through 1964, and took part in the planning and building of Interstate 90 and State Route 11 as a member of the State Highway Department. For his many years of service, he received honorary membership to the Ohio State Association of Township Trustees and Clerks.
Mr. Simons also served as the director of the Conneaut Auto Club, a trustee of Brown Memorial Hospital, and sat on the Monroe Local School Board, which consolidated and built a new school in 1938. He also held memberships in several fraternal orders, and enjoyed working in his yard and talking to visitors about the events of the past 98 years.
He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and attended regularly.
Survivors include a sister, Ellen Felch of Willoughby; a daughter, Nora M. Grubke of Monroe; a son, Richard of Ashtabula Township; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years, Arloeine (Dean) Simons, whom he married June 25, 1925; a sister, Bertha Cook; an infant son; and an infant great-grandson.
A private graveside service will be held March 30 at Kelloggsville Cemetery, with the Rev. Jay Lucas, former Pastor of Monroe United Methodist Church, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Monroe United Methodist Church.

Edward F. Uhlir
ROCKY RIVER - Edward Frank Uhlir, 76, died Thursday Jan. 17, 2002, at Briar Hill Health Care Center, Middlefield.
He was born March 25, 1925, in Newburgh Heights, the son of Frank and Mary Uhlir.
Mr. Uhlir had lived in Rocky River for three years, coming from Fort Richey, Fla.
He was a driver with the Cleveland Transit System, Cleveland, from 1947 until 1974.
Mr. Uhlir was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps, serving during World War II and in the occupation of China and Japan after the war,
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 07987.
Survivors include his wife, Frances (Martini); a daughter, Donna Merk of Chardon; and three grandchildren, Lisa DeMore, Carrie Merk and Paul Wilfong.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Dave.
Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Crucifixion Mausoleum at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township, where inurnment will take place.
Family will meet friends at the cemetery entrance at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon, has charge of the arrangements.

Eileen Mescall
LAKEWOOD - Eileen Mescall, 79, formerly of Ashtabula County, died Monday, May 21, 2001.
Survivors include daughter Jenny Denyer of Michigan; and sister Edna Lou Lyman of Cleveland Heights.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold.
Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Church, Clifton Ave. and Bunts Road, Lakewood. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland.
Calling hours will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at the McGorray Brothers funeral Home, 14133 Detroit Ave., Lakewood.

LT Michael L. Runyan
NEWARK, OH – 1LT Michael L. Runyan, 24, of Newark, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Balad, Iraq while serving in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 52nd Infantry, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
He was born on November 29, 1985 in the town of Ashland, Ohio, to Jeff and Renee (Rebera) Runyan. He graduated from Ashland High School in 2004 where he was a qualifier for the State Golf Tournament his junior year. He participated in the Army ROTC program at Xavier University and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice in 2008.
While at Xavier, he was a member of the Society of Pershing Rifles and participated in Ranger Challenge, serving as Captain of the team his senior year. He also participated in intramural sand volleyball, a championship softball team, and was in the Xavier musical his senior year.
Michael loved golfing, tennis, exploring the outdoors, and most of all, his family and friends. Michael had the God-given gift of a smile that lit up the entire room. He touched everyone he met with his charm and grace.
He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Renee of Newark, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Lesley and Matthew Hess of Beavercreek, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law Alex and Brittany (Eilenfeld) of Oceanside, California; fiancé Shaina Cales of Ripley Ohio; and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmie and Anthony Rebera and Margaret E. and William O. Runyan.
Calling hours will be held from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the GaREAT Complex, 1822 S. Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041 with a service to follow starting at 1 PM. Dr. Richard R. Boyer, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Southampton, NY will officiate.
A private family burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 3140 East Center Street, N. Kingsville, OH 44068. Supporters may witness the procession to the cemetery on Sunday, August 1, 2010 between the hours of 9 and 10 AM on SR 20 from Station Avenue in Ashtabula up to the entrance of the cemetery at Greenlawn. Admission to the cemetery during the burial service will be strictly limited to members within the funeral procession.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in lieu of flowers as donations made out to The Michael L. Runyan Memorial Fund through the Park National Bank, 1633 West Main Street, Newark, OH 43055. This fund will benefit three separate entities: distinguishable members of the Xavier Army ROTC program, members of Project Odyssey in association with the Wounded Warrior Project (an outdoor rehabilitative retreat that combines adventure challenges with opportunities for peer support and group processing), and the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
In addition, the family invites you to post a personal memory of Michael on the Facebook memorial group titled, "In Loving Memory of Michael Louis Runyan".

Edna M. Quinn
CLEVELAND ­ Edna M. Quinn, 84, of Deerborn Avenue, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at her home.
She was born March 13, 1917, in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Alma (Borges) Miller. She lived in Cleveland the past 13 years. Prior to moving to Cleveland she had resided in Conneaut.
Mrs. Quinn was employed by the Conneaut Telephone Co. as an office worker and retired after working there for 25 years.
She enjoyed reading, playing cards, collecting antiques and attending antique auctions.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole Forness and Beverly Mattachione, both of Cleveland; a son, Richard A. Quinn of Conneaut; two grandchildren, Robin Hillberry of North Olmsted, and Jason Picard of Conneaut; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth F.; a sister, Elizabeth Miller and a brother, Charles Miller.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. Internment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Donald L. Hanson
CLEVELAND - Donald L. Hanson, 68, of Route 167 in Denmark Township, died Wednesday morning, March 21, 2001, from complications following surgery.
He was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Denmark Township, the son of Arthur and Clara (Scott) Hanson, and had lived in the township most of his life.
He served with the Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married the former Donna M. Millard on Sept. 14, 1956, at the Denmark Community Church.
He was a self-employed builder, and owned Don Hanson Builders.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Jefferson Conservation Club and the Ashtabula County Rod and Reel Club. He also enjoyed bowling and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Delores Rohm of Sheffield Township, Jacki J. Davis of Plymouth Township, and Linda Laugen of Kingsville Township; seven grandchildren, Donald, Willard, Jonathan, Amanda, Rachael, Jaime and Zachariah; a great-grandson, Austin; a brother, James Hanson of Denmark Township; and seven sisters, Ruby Hruska-Williams, Esther Jurcenko and Mary Dumperth, all of Jefferson, Arlene Stasny of San Antonio, Texas, Agnes Hruska of Dorset Township, Eleanor Shirk of Kingsville Township, and Shirley Smith of Riverview, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Hanson; and a sister, Anna Moffitt.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. The Rev. Bonnie Habbersett, of the Kingsville Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pierpont Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad, or the Jefferson Conservation Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
