James R. Skidmore
VENICE, Fla. - James Richard Skidmore, 79, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
He was born June 27, 1922, in Jefferson, to Bland and Pauline (Zeiger) Skidmore. He was a North Kingsville resident until retiring to Venice, Fla., nine years ago.
Mr. Skidmore graduated from Jefferson Area High School. He worked 37 years for the Ashtabula Rubber Co. before retiring as plant manager.
He was a long time member of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include son Rick of Kingsville; daughter Becky Krebs of Syracuse, N.Y.; brothers Joe of Jefferson and Bob of Stuart, Fla.; sister Catherine Uhrain of Jefferson; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Barbara Jean (Anderson) last year, brothers Andy and Nick Skidmore; stepbrothers Frank, Ed and John Mayer; stepsister Helen Zipperer; and his parents.
Service is 1 p.m. Sunday at North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 6546 Church St., officiated by the Rev. Christine Strachan. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

Pauline J. Drummond
MONROE TOWNSHIP - Pauline J. Drummond, 76, of Scribner Road, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Peter and Julia (Mako) Lower, and had resided in Monroe Township most of her life.
Mrs. Drummond was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sheffield, where she served as vice president of the Council of Women.
She had been employed by the former Astatic Corp. for 15 years as an assembler. She enjoyed her family and friends and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, David W., to whom she had been married for 53 years; a daughter, Paula Drummond at home; three sons, David A. and Rex K., both of Conneaut, and Frank A. of Monroe Township; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Bukowski of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Bruce; three sisters, Katherine Price, Ann Williams and Eileen McGill; and two brothers, Andy and Frank Lower.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sheffield with the Rev. Nathan Willis officiating. Interment will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery in Monroe Township.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut.
Helen C. Settle
OAKHURST, Calif. - Helen C. Settle, 92, of Oakhurst, Calif., died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Briar Hill Nursing Home in Middlefield.
She was born Sept. 24, 1908, in Barberton, the daughter of Riley and Gertrude (Bender) Cole, and had lived in the area since the mid-1930s.
She graduated from Medina High School in 1928, and Ohio State University in 1932.
She was the former owner and operator of the Sierra Sky Dude Ranch in Oakhurst during the 1940s and 1950s, and during World War II worked at Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles.
She married E.B. "Pinky" Settle, a contractor based in Fresno, Calif., in 1960. After his retirement, the couple moved to Long Beach, Calif., where they lived on their boat. Mrs. Settle continued to live on the boat after his death in 1985.
Survivors include stepdaughters Fran Foster and Jan Settle, both of California; and nieces Becky Elder of Newbury Township, and Bonnie Pisching of Chardon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Mildred Perkins; and three brothers.
Private family funeral services will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Charles E. Hansen
OCALA, Fla. - Charles E. Hansen, 63, of Ocala, Fla., died May 9, 2001, at the Hospice House in Marion County, Fla.
He was born March 30, 1938, in Port Clinton, the son of Frederick and Alta (Schiewe) Hansen, and had lived in Ocala for 15 years.
He worked for the Army as a staff sergeant in charge of transportation until retirement in 1977.
He enjoyed fishing and building model cars, airplanes and ships.
Survivors include his wife, the former Pat Deitrich of Ocala, whom he married June 1964; and two grandchildren, Kyleigh of Atwater and K.J. Hansen of Conneaut..
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kevin Hansen, in 1996.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery in Conneaut. The Rev. Clyde McGee, pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, will officiate.
The Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, is in charge of arrangements.
Richard R. Kovalak Jr.
HARTSGROVE TOWNSHIP - Richard R. Kovalak Jr., 49, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1951 in Lakewood, the son of Richard R. Sr and Earline (Kopus) Kovalak
He graduated from Parma Senior High School in 1971 and was a sheet metal mechanic.
Mr. Kovalak was a member of the Masonic Lodge 397 in Hartsgrove. He was a member of Union Local 33, Cleveland and had been a zoning inspector for Hartsgrove Township.
His hobbies and interests include hunting, reading and collecting coins.
He is survived by his son, Richard R. III of Hartsgrove Township; his parents; and two brothers, Robert R. of North Royalton and Ronald R. Kovalak of Canal Fulton.
Masonic service is 8 p.m. Saturday at the Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 3119 W. Water St., Rock Creek.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
Nelson S. Hejduk
WATERFORD - Nelson S. Hejduk, 92, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at his residence in WATERFORD.
The former Maple Heights resident was born July 10, 1908 in Madison, the son of Mary (Recac) and Joseph Hejduk.
He worked as a teamster-truck driver, retiring as a bus driver for the Maple Heights Board of Education.
He was a prisoner of war for six months during his service in World War II for the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a student of business, as well as the stock and bond markets. Interests included current events, helping people, traveling, and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Chester Dennis of WATERFORD; and a brother, Hobart of Madison.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in 1976; a sister, Gladys Cowels and infant sister Alice; and brothers Edward, Leslie, Joseph Jr., Charles, Gordon and Harvey.
No additional funeral service is scheduled.

Janice Dickson
MANSFIELD - Janice Marie (Runyan) Dickson, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Dickson was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Eagleville and was raised in New Lyme. She graduated from New Lyme-Deming High School and then attended banking school.
A resident of the Mansfield area for the past 36 years, Mrs. Dickson was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, watching soap operas, and most of all loved spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas 0. Dickson of Mansfield; one son, Brett Dickson of Yukon, Okla.; one daughter, Robin Schiffer of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Chad Wilford, Dustin, Samantha, Lacey and Nathan Dickson, Michelle (Schiffer) Gundrum, Wendy and Michael Schiffer; and one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Calvin Dean of New Lyme and Norman Nelson of Lake Gilford; and one sister, Wilma Elizabeth Herndon of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Aletha (Gray) Runyan; a sister, Velma Runyan; and a brother, William Runyan.
A memorial service was Dec. 17 in The Mayflower Congregational Church with the Rev. Gary L. Wilson conducting.
