Media Hinkle
HARTSGROVE TOWNSHIP - Media Hinkle, 95, of Summers Road, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the home of her son Elbert Hinkle, with whom she had lived for the past 10 months.
Mrs. Hinkle was born Sept. 28, 1907, in Virginia, the daughter of Elbert and Laura (Gilbert) Carroll. Before moving to Hartsgrove, she lived in Jonesville, Va.
She was a woman who knew only hard work as a way of life. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include her six children, Leonard Hinkle of Willoughby Hills, Elbert F. Hinkle of Hartsgrove Township, Emory E. Hinkle of Dayton, Emogene Thomas and Geraldine Selph, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jacqueline Bauerlein of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Claude Carroll of Pennington Gap, Va., and Bobby Carroll of Independence, Kan.; and two sisters, Faye Mullins of Tampa, Fla., and Geneva Williams of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob C. Hinkle, in 1976; a daughter, Roberta Hammonds; two brothers, Pearl and Clayton Carroll; and three sisters, Beulah Carroll, Lois Parsons and Maxie Hammonds.
Service is Saturday morning at Sturgill Funeral Home, 321 Harrell St., Pennington Gap, Va.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Virginia.
Fleming Funeral Home Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling the local arrangements.
Oliver E. Hyppa
CLEVELAND - Oliver E. Hyppa, 88, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Tradition Care Center in Cleveland, where he resided since October 1992.
He was born March 24, 1914, in Ashtabula, the son of Eli and Hilda (Laahanen) Hyppa.
Mr. Hyppa graduated from Harbor High School and worked for the Hanna Dock Co. and the Jersey Zinc Co. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his son, Roger; two grandsons, Charles of Val Rico, Fla., and Craig of Cleveland; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Aili; a son, Carl J.; and two brothers, Eugene and an infant brother.
Graveside services at Edgewood Cemetery have not been scheduled yet. No calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Richard J. Maynard
WOOSTER - Richard J. Maynard, 73, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at his home.
He was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Geneva, the son of Ralph and Jesse (Johnston) Maynard.
He was president of Maynard and Associates, a manufacturers representation firm.
He graduated from Geneva High School in 1947 and attended Ohio University and Mount Union College. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1346; the Ohio Historical Society; a 50-year associate of the Door and Hardware Association; and a 35-year member of the Wooster Country Club.
He was a veteran of the U.S. armed services during the Korean War, serving in Germany.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Patricia (Mellen) Maynard, whom he married Dec. 27, 1951; three sons, George of Boston, Patrick of Columbus, and Jim of Youngstown; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Maynard Jr.
A private family service will be held at McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

Nancy A. Schartner
TROY TOWNSHIP - Nancy Ann Schartner, 54, of Troy Township, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at her home after a long illness.
She was born March 8, 1948, in Wickliffe, the daughter of Donald and Stephanie (Horney) Schartner, and moved to the township in 1994.
She worked as a secretary at the Bowman Industries division of Barnes Distribution in Cleveland for more than 10 years, until she became disabled in 1993.
She was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Troy, and enjoyed crocheting and all arts and crafts.
Survivors include a sister, Donna Mae Tinta of Huntsburg, and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Larry R. Schartner; and a sister, Kathleen Hunt.
Service is 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland. The Rev. Ron Miller, pastor of New Hope Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon.
John J. Cahill
LYNDHURST - John J. Cahill, 81, of Lyndhurst died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Hillcrest Hospital.
He was born May 23, 1921 in Warren, the son of James and Eva Cahill.
Mr. Cahill had been a resident of Lyndhurst for 30 years and formerly of Wickliffe.
He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Cahill was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors.
He worked as an auditor for the UAW Union.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Regina M. (Fana) of Lyndhurst; a daughter, Sharon Condon of Ashtabula; son, James Cahill of Wickliffe; stepson, Joseph Santalucia; two stepdaughters, Darlene Ciulla and Wendy Santalucia; grandchildren, Richard Twaro, Holly Karban, D.J. and Tiffany Condon, and Matt Cahill; stepgrandchildren, Capri Ciulla, Michael Ciulla, and Tiffany Wurts; two brothers, Ralph Cahill and Robert Cahill; and a sister, Doris Warmuth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, John Jr.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home, 4600 Mayfield Road, South Euclid.
Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., today at the funeral home.
Mary E. Duszynski
BROADVIEW HEIGHTS - Mary Elizabeth Duszynski, 95, of Broadview Heights, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002.
She worked at Pick Carter Hotel for 40 years in downtown Cleveland. She retired in 1965 to Englewood, Fla., and returned in late 1995 to live at Harborside Healthcare in Broadview Heights.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; a brother, Edward Malek of Conneaut; three sisters, Genevieve Palmayer and Mildred Hoplight and Helen Kuzmick, both of Ashtabula.
Prayer service is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mallchok Funeral Home, 5660 Ridge Road, Parma. Mass begins at 11 a.m. at Columbkille Catholic Church, 6740 Broadview Road, Parma. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Cloyd English
PLEASANT BEND - Cloyd English, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1917, the son of Roy and Minnie English.
Mr. English hauled milk for many years before going into carpentry work, remodeling and building homes. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pleasant Bend.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Weller of Continental, and Sharon Kohart of Angola, Ind.; three brothers, Bernard of Oakwood, Donald of Van Wert, and Gerald of Conneaut; a sister, Evelyn Butler of Conneaut; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; his twin brother, Floyd of Monroe Township and Raymond of California; and a grandson.
Services were . Sept. 21 at United Methodist Church in Pleasant Bend, with the Rev. Deb Berry officiating. She was buried in Monroe Cemetery in Continental.
Geitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental handled the arrangements.
