Charles W. Laing
SUMTER, S.C. - Charles W. Laing, 81, died in Tumoney Hospital in Sumter, S.C.
He was born Sept. 12, 1920 in Mentor. He was formerly a Lake County resident.
Mr. Laing retired as a truck driver for the former Highway Auto Parts in Painesville Township in 1979.
Survivors include son Harold L. Laing of Ashville, N.C.; daughters Sally L. Cole of Cleveland, Nancy M. Mack of Painesville, Margie A. Craft of Painesville, and Alice J. Locher of Sumter, S.C.; sister Mary Phillips of Dorset; 18 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marian A. (Shaw) Laing in 2001, son Raymond G. Laing and five brothers.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. today at Section 18 at Riverside Cemetery, Painesville.
Family and friends will be received following the service at daughter Nancy Mack's residence at 104 Casement Ave., Painesville.
Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home of Painesville is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth H. Knoedler
HOUSTON, Texas - Ruth H. Knoedler, 98, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1903 in Cleveland. She moved to Houston in 1988.
Mrs. Knoedler was a homemaker her entire life. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with family.
Survivors include daughter Ruth PettyJohn of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews from Willoughby and Ashtabula; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore in 1997, infant son Theodore Jr., daughter Margaret Carpenter and grandson Terry Thorp.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery, Geneva, officiated by the Rev. Gorden Emerson of Jefferson Methodist Church.
Contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
Burton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, is directing services.

Caroline Lokar
EUCLID - Caroline (Fabec) Lokar, 87, died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Hospice House, Cleveland.
She was born June 8, 1914 in Sembije, Slovenia. She came to the U.S. in 1928. She was a Geneva resident from 1966 to 1978.
Mrs. Lokar was employed as an inspector at General Electric for 20 years, retiring in 1963. From 1966 to 1978, she operated Anton's Restaurant with her husband Anton Mihelich.
She was a member of the Euclid Homemakers Club, Euclid Democratic Caucus, Euclid Pensioners, Fairport Pensioners, Waterloo Pensioners, St. Noel Social Club, SNPJ 158, AMLA 6, Slovenian Women's Union 50, Progressive Slovene Women of America 3 and Klub Ljubljana.
Survivors include daughter Caroline "Elsie" Frank of Euclid; son Frank Zigman of Ashtabula; grandchildren Walter, Kenneth, Ronald and Donald Frank, Frank Zigman Jr. and Vicki Wojtila; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister Christine Verch.
She was preceded in death by husbands Frank Zigman, Anton Mihelich, Raymond Nisula and Rudy Lokar; and brothers Tony and Louis Fabec.
Service is 8:45 a.m. Friday at Zele Funeral Home, 452 E. 152 St., Cleveland, moving at 9:30 a.m. to St. William Church, 367 E. 260 St., Euclid. Internment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Shania Rey Laird
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Shania Rey Laird, four and a half months, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include her parents John Laird and Lori Mason of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandparents Carolyn Carpenter of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and John and Linda Laird of Rock Creek; and brothers and sisters John Paul Streets, Jenna Laird, Johnny Laird and Brianne Laird, all of Geneva, and Crystal Titmus, Tiffany Titmus and David Titmus, all of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by grandfather Reynold Nissen and uncle David Nissen.
Service was May 22 at First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa. Internment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Nancy A. Curran
HARTFORD, Conn. - Nancy A. Curran, 64, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Putnam, Conn., the daughter of Stanley R. and Loretta M. (Gildard) Moser. Formerly of Putnam, Conn., and Cortland, Mrs. Curran had been a Hartford, Conn., resident since 1981.
She was a 1955 graduate of Putnam High School, a 1959 graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts, with a degree in physical education, and a 1962 graduate of the D.T. Watson School of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh.
She worked for Harmerville Rehab Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa., for two years before becoming the director of physical therapy at Hillside Hospital, Howland for more than 21 years. Along with her partner, Elaine C. Smith, she owned and operated Therapeutic Enterprises Inc., for more than 19 years.
She was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Ohio Physical Therapy Association, the Springfield College Alumni Association, and the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association. She was president of the Rolling Acres Association at Pymatuning Lake, Jamestown, Pa.
Mrs. Curran enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, small carpentry, bird watching, nature and family activities.
Mrs. Curran was a member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan C. Ellis of Naples, Fla., and Stacia J. Markowitz of Inglis, Fla.; and a brother, William F. Moser.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service is 5 p.m. Saturday at Kinsman Presbyterian Church, 6383 Church St., Kinsman, with the Rev. Steven W. Trimble officiating.
No calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 304, Kinsman 44428.
Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, has charge of the arrangements.

Carol A. Vaccariello
BEREA - Carol Ann Vaccariello, 65, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Lakewood Hospital, Lakewood.
She was born Jan. 3, 1937, in Cleveland, the daughter of William and Margaret (Demo) Kneebusch. She had lived in Claridon Township before moving to Berea 35 years ago.
Mrs. Vaccariello was diagnosed with polio at age 15, which resulted in her being quadriplegic. She graduated from the University of Denver in 1966, completing the educational requirements needed to submit a thesis for a pH. D. in speech pathology. She received her master's degree in speech pathology from Ohio University in 1963 and her bachelor of arts degree in speech pathology from Baldwin Wallace College, where she taught part-time from 1968 to 1993.
She owned The Ability Center in Berea for the past 30 years, making speech pathology available to the Berea community. She has also published four educational books, the most recent in 2001.
She was a member of Christ the King Church, North Olmsted, and a former member of First Congregational Church, Claridon Township.
Survivors include her husband, Richard, whom she married Aug. 22, 1964, at the First Congregational Church of Claridon; a daughter, Maureen Walsh of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan Walsh; a brother, Carl Kneebusch of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a sister, Judy Puls of Berea.
She was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service is 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Church, 30635 Lorain Road, North Olmsted. Private burial was at Claridon Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church; First Congregational Church of Claridon, 13942 Mayfield Road, Chardon 44024, or Gospel House of Solon.
The Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon, has charge of the arrangements.

Howard C. Lamb
PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - Howard C. Lamb, 83, of Pennington Gap, a frequent visitor to Conneaut, OH, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Virginia, following a short illness.
Born Sept. 14, 1917, Mr. Lamb worked for many years as a coal miner.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond of Conneaut, Bobby and Eddie of Woodway, Va.; two daughters, Reva Middleton of Cranks, Ky., and Ruby Smith of Lexington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death Feb. 20, 1983, by his wife of 54 years, Minnie.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funerl home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Church of God, 5327 Center Road, Conneaut 44030.
