Murray J. McLean
SEBRING - Murray J. McLean, 88, of Sebring, (formerly of Ashtabula) died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring after a long illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1912, in Tabusintac, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of George and Alma (Wishart) McLean. He moved to the Ashtabula area in 1934.
Mr. McLean was a graduate of Chatham New Brunswick High School and Fredericktown Business College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 3rd Army Division in Belgium.
Mr. McClean was employed with Ashtabula Hide and Leather Co., the Raser Tanning Co. and Rowley Publications as a controller until his retirement in 1968.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula, where he served as treasurer, trustee and several terms as an elder. He was a 50-year plus member of Rising Sun Lodge 22 F&AM; a member of the Newspaper Controllers and Finance Officers Association; Ashtabula Accountants Association; and had been active on the Saybrook School Boards.
Mr. McLean also was a member of the Aconcha Chapter of N.C.H.A. Camping Club.
He enjoyed camping, playing golf and biking.
Survivors include his wife, L. Marian (Sweet) McLean, whom he married Aug. 16, 1941; three sons, John of Ashtabula, Lloyd of Sharpsburg, Ga. and Ron of Westerville; a daughter, Kay Stafford of Minerva; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Andrew, Leslie, McKay and Walter; and one sister, Marjorie Trevors.
Service is noon Wednesday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Stephen Long of the First Presbyterian Church and the Rev. James C. Gardner, chaplain at Copeland Oaks, officiating.
Burial will be in Saybrook Township Cemetery.
Calling hour is 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Life Care Fund of Copeland Oaks.
Howard William Reed
LEESBURG, Fla. - Howard William Reed, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at the Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala, Fla.
Born Jan. 21, 1917, in Dorset Township, he was a son of William and Mabel (Tuttle) Reed and lived most of his life in Kingsville Township before moving to Leesburg nine years ago.
Mr. Reed worked as a Great Lakes; at Addressograph-Multigraph, Cleveland; and retired from Reliance Electric Co., Ashtabula, after 32 years.
He was a member of The Life Community Church, Eustis, Fla., and a former member of the First Baptist Church, Kingsville Township; the "55 and Much-Alive" Club; the Kingsville Gypsies and the Reliance Electric Retiree Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; four daughters, Norita Evans of Largo, Fla., Carol Huey of Kingsville Township, Elinor Mihic of Timberlake and Janice Yambor of Dorset Township; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great-granchildren; three brothers, Richard of Conneaut, Robert of Norwalk, and Raymond of Kingsville Township; and five sisters, Grace Kotnick and Mary Hatch of Kingsville Township, Frances Hatch of Franklin, N.C., Louise Scott of Newton, N.C., and Jeannette Kinkle of Naples, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 53 years, Lounetta (Stevens) in July 1990; a brother John; and a sister, Lillian Stevens.
Services is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with the Rev. David Hines of Kingsville Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville Township.
Calling hours are from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Myron E. Long
WINDHAM TOWNSHIP - Myron "Marty" E. Long, 54, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna.
He was born in Ravenna on Jan. 15, 1946, the son of Robert C. and Marjorie (Bell) Long .
He was employed as a truck driver for Blair Cartage, Newbury Township.
He married Donna Rush on Oct. 23, 1965.
Mr. Long served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting and riding his four-wheeler.
He is survived by his wife and a brother, Dennis Long of Southington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville, with the Rev. Carl Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery, Windham.

Peter Herakovic
CLEVELAND - Peter Herakovic, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000 at the Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky.
Mr. Herakovic was born March 11, 1916 in Cleveland, the son of Theodore and Mary (Bratel) Herakovic. He was a lifelong area resident.
He worked as a truck driver for 12 years for the Grubach Trucking Company in Cleveland.
He loved baseball and enjoyed music.
Mr. Herakovic served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by a brother, Michael Herakovic of Windsor; and a sister, Marie Krisla of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ted and John; and two sisters, Mary Radovanic and Ann Palkovic.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. The Rev. Harry S. Winca of St. Lucy's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
Dorothy J. Carlson

Dorothy J. Carlson, 83 of Garrison Rd., Plymouth Township died unexpectly on Saturday (Feb. 28th) at her home. She was born May 14, 1925 in Geneva, Ohio the daughter of Claude R. and Sophie C. (Sieth) Orcutt and has been a lifetime area resident.
She was employed with Reliance Electric for 16 years retiring in 1982. She is a long time member of the First United Methodist of Ashtabula where she had been active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Reliance Retires. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, doing Cross Stitch and she made sculpture dolls.
Surviving her are he so, David Carlson of Goldsboro, North Carolina; a daughter, Toni Ann Carlson of Ashtabula; three grandchildren, Charles Carlson, Scott Carlson and Laura Vossler; six great grandchildren and a sister, Gladys Potter of Floral City, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester Carlson in 2000; a son Brent Carlson in 2006; five brothers, Harry, Glen, Lawrence, Bob and Bud and a sister, Eva O’Neil.
Funeral services will be held Friday (March 6th) at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 4506 Elm Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio with Rev. Barbara Roseberry officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.

Emmett J. Hodgkinson, 47 of State Route #193, Jefferson, Ohio died Wednesday (February 18th) at his home after a long illness. He was born August 10, 1961 in Ashtabula the son of Willard and Lillian (Spencer) Hodgkinson and has been a lifetime area resident.
He was a 1980 graduate of Edgewood High School and was employed at Geneva Pipeline Co. in Geneva.
He was active in the 4-H when his children where younger and enjoyed going to horse shows. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, gardening, Remote control flying helicopters and watching Ghost Hunters on TV.He also was the owner & operator of Hodgkinson Trenching from 1995-1999.
Surviving him are his mother, Lillian Hodgkinson of Ashtabula; three children, Tiffany, Megan and Alex Hodgkinson all of Pierpont; his fiancée’ and care giver, Laurie Gammon of Jefferson; two sisters, Glenyess (Jesse) Cook of Ashtabula and Yvonne (Dennis) Deitz of Kingsville and a brother, Mark (Megann) Hodgkinson of Ashtabula. He was preceded in death by his father and by a brother, Willard Hodgkinson.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Neroy Carter officiating.

Brian David Ashley
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP - Brian David Ashley, 24, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at his home.
He was born on December 7, 1978 in Phoenix, AZ, and was raised by his parents, Donald L. and Bonnie (Lane) Ashley. He moved to Ashtabula when he was six.
Brian attended Ashtabula High School and graduated in 1998 from the A.C.J.V.S. Welding Program. He also attended Kent State University, Ashtabula branch, and Lakeland Community College.
For the past 2 1/2 years, he worked as a nurse's aid at Broadfield Manor in Geneva.
A longtime Coca-Cola collector and fanatic, he loved working with his patients, camping, four-wheeling, and cars.
Survivors include his companion of 8 years, Linda Dewey of Ashtabula; his mother, Bonnie Ashley of Ashtabula; his paternal grandmother, Helen V. Ashley; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Lane of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Ashley; his paternal grandfather, Charles Robert "Bob" Ashley; and his maternal grandparents, Levi D. and Ruth Lane.
Calling Hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2003, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
