Services: November 8th, 2011 at 11:00 A. M.
Catherine A. “Katie” Powers, age 72, March Rd., Jefferson, died Thursday at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center with family by her side after a long struggle with a heart condition.
She was born September 12, 1939 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph & Audrey (Alltop) Cruze and has lived in Jefferson since 1964, coming from Keokuk. She married her husband of 54 years, Billy R. Powers on June 22, 1957 in Keokuk.
Katie founded the Jefferson Community Center in 1976 and served as director for 16 years before retiring to operate Kati-Lynns Gifts & Crafts until closing in 1999. She was very active in the community with Jefferson Little League, Jefferson Athletic Boosters and was also creator of the SOCC Board and the Jefferson Community Park & Nature Trail.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, attending sporting and school events. She loved her dogs, Cassie & Ginny, painted ceramics, tended to her flower and fruit tree gardens and was always trying to grow things in her “lasagna” garden. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning and her favorite place to visit was Disney World, the “Happiest Place on Earth”.
Survivors include her husband, Billy, five children, Jeff Powers, John (Laurie) Powers, Jim Powers, Matt Powers & Amy (Rocky) Cameron, six grandchildren, Jacob (Sarah) Powers, Johnny, Brett & Maycee Powers and Renee & Amber Justice and her brother, Bob (Betty) Cruze.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Rev. Thomas McCain, associate pastor of Cook Rd. Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-6 P. M. at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be directed the SOCC Board (Support Our Community Center), 27 E. Gladys M. Allen
February 13, 1927 - October 29, 2011
Services: November 3rd, 2011 at 12:30 PM
Gladys M. Allen, age 84, N. Olmsted, died Saturday afternoon at the Renaissance Health Center in Olmsted Falls where she had resided the past month.
She was born February 13, 1927 in Cleveland, the daughter of George H. & Loretta (Price) Engle. She grew up in Twinsburg and Dorset Twp. before moving to N. Olmsted after her marriage Howard M. Allen on July 17, 1954 at the Dorset Methodist Church. Mrs. Allen worked several years for the Veterans Administration, then was a secretary and retired from Bennett Builders after many years of employment. Mrs. Allen enjoyed sewing, crocheting and bird watching.
Survivors include two children, Joyce A. Allen of N. Olmsted and Robert M. (Lori) Allen of Lakewood, a grandson, Matthew R. Allen and two brothers, Robert & Edward Engle, both of Dorset Twp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard on 1/14/11 and two brothers, George & Harry Engle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:30 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Alisa Nierzejewski, certified celebrant leading the service. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.

Robert O. Tupper
July 5, 1926 - October 20, 2011
Services: October 25th, 2011 at 11:00 A. M.
Robert O. Tupper, age 85, longtime resident of Dorset, died late Thursday evening at the UHHS-Conneaut Medical Center.
He was born July 5, 1926 in Akron, the son of the late Boyd M. & Laura F. (Bullinger) Tupper. Bob graduated from North High School in Akron and attended Akron Art University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp during WWII and was stationed overseas in the South Pacific, Guam, Okinawa & Tsingtao, China. He was awarded the Purple Heart in the Battle of Okinawa.
Bob spent years in the entertainment field as a ventriloquist, along with his partners “Skeeburt Skiddaddle” & “Silly Sally”. He worked at radio stations in Akron, Canton and Ashtabula. Bob hosted the WICA Club for young listeners and Top 40 Shows in the Ashtabula area in the 50’s & 60’s. Bob moved to television in Erie, PA at WJET-TV and hosted the Ronald McDonald Kid’s Show, as well as doing the weather along with various other programs. He also worked for the Jefferson Gazette as the display advertising manager. He spent his retirement years entertaining service organizations, activity clubs and churches.
His many hobbies included traveling, which included many Amtrak train trips throughout the west, camping, auctions, garage sales, photography and drawing cartoons for the ventriloquist magazine, the “Dialogue”. Bob served as a Dorset Twp. Trustee, on the SCAD ambulance board, past president of the Ashtabula Co. Township Assoc., and was a member of the VFW, Post #943 in Ashtabula. He also attended the Dorset Baptist Church.
He will be missed dearly by his friends and family, especially his beloved wife of 50 years, Caroline S. (Fink), whom he married on April 22, 1961 in Ripley, NY. Bob also leaves his partners, “Skeeburt Skiddaddle” & “Silly Sally” & his little fur-kid, “Trixie”, several nieces and nephews and many great & great-great nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Bess Klokoc. A brother, Boyd, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Ed Pickard of the Dorset Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery with American Legion Post #103 offering full military honors.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 7-9 P. M. and Tuesday from 10-11 A. M. at the funeral home. Roslyn Y. Lockwood

Roslyn Y. (Harris) Lockwood, age 56, died early Thursday morning, October 20, 2011 at the Saybrook Landing where she has been a patient the past year.
She was born May 20, 1955 in Steubenville, the daughter of James & Herdasine (Jones) Harris and has resided in this area the past 10 years, coming from Cleveland Hts. She was a 1977 graduate of Malone College. She worked as a social worker for many years in Cleveland, both with the developmentally challenged and in crisis intervention. She was also a substitute teacher in the Cleveland Hts. & University Hts. school systems. Roslyn was a member of the Jefferson Community Church of God in Christ and her enjoyments included cooking, singing, community work & caregiveing.
Survivors include four children, Herdasine Y. Epps of Jefferson, Emmanuel A. Lockwood of San Antonio, TX, William Lockwood, Jr. of Los Angles, CA & Jamar Lockwood of New York, NY, two grandchildren, Heaven & Emmanuel, Jr., her father, Pastor James Harris of Jefferson and two brothers & three sisters, James Harris, Jr. of Canton, Beryl J. Jackson of Brownsville, PA, Adrienne G. Harris of Fruitland Park, FL, Janice M. Chappell of Jefferson & Lawrence E. Harris of Lyndhurst.
Her mother, Herdasine, preceded her in death in 2009.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Community Church of God in Christ, 1381 St. Rt. 167, Jefferson, with Pastor Carl Salters officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in c/o James Harris, 183 Maple St., Jefferson, OH 44047, envelopes will also be a the church. John A. "Jack" Moravetz
June 24, 1948 - October 14, 2011
Services: October 19th, 2011 at 11:00 A. M.
John A. “Jack” Moravetz, age 63, Penny Ln., Lenox Twp., died Friday evening at the UHHS-Geneva Medical Center following prolonged health problems.
He was born June 24, 1948 in Irwin, PA, the son of the late William & Virginia (Drost) Moravetz and came to the Jefferson area in 1973 from Irwin, PA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp. Reserves. Jack was a graduate of Clarion College and received his master’s degree from Youngstown State University.
He was married to Susan L. Colflesh on July 9, 1977 in Ashtabula. Jack was a retired teacher and administrator from the Ashtabula City School System. He had taught 6th grade at Station Ave. Elementary, 3rd grade at Plymouth Elementary, served as assistant principal at both Columbus & West Jr. High Schools and was principal at Washington Elementary. He was a member of the Gateway Church and the VFW, Post #943. His interests include golfing, vintage car shows, drag racing, singing karaoke, staying in contact with his fraternity brothers and he was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include his wife, Susan L. Moravetz, two daughters, Sharon A. Seames of Dayton & Jessica L. Moravetz of Kingsville Twp., four granddaughters, Allison, Lauren, Madison & Haylee and a sister, Cheryl VanBuren of Woodstock, GA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Brian Wright officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with military rites offered by American Legion Post #103.

Maxine V. White
August 16, 1923 - October 14, 2011
Services: October 20th, 2011 at Private
Maxine V. White, age 88, longtime Jefferson area resident, went home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center where she had been a patient the past nine days.
She was born August 16, 1923 in Fairmont, WV, the daughter of Herman & Martha (Cooper) Boyce and came to Ashtabula Co. in 1950 from Fairmont, WV. She was a 1941 graduate of Fairmont East High School and was married to Walter C. “Coke” White on June 14, 1946 in Fairmont.
Mrs. White was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning and did ceramics. She was formerly active with a Wednesday afternoon bowling league and attended the Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include five children, Donna P. (Larry) Browning of Jefferson, Jennifer D. (Paul) Demshar of Ashtabula, Doug C. (Debbie) White of Lenox Twp., Kim A. (John) Barker of Conneaut & Jeffrey S. (Tammy) White of Saybrook Twp., 12 grandchildren, Dwayne Presciano of Dallas, TX, Kelly Reinke of Jefferson, Lindsay Haas of Ft. Worth, TX, Matthew Dempshar of Geneva, Rebekah Zelenka of Jacksonville, FL, Katy White-Dreier of Cortland, Doug White, Jr. of Lenox Twp., Ashley Hall of Jefferson, Johnny Barker with the USAF & Eric Hatfield Heather & Holly White, all of Ashtabula, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister, Christine Hostutler of Fairmont, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter in 2008, a daughter, Virginia at birth and four sisters and two brothers.
Private services will be held for the family with burial in Lenox Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Lung Assoc., 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd., Suite 260, Independence, OH 44131 or at www.IMOTree.com. Mrs. White’s family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Pastor Michael Legg, Pastor Justin Smith, Pastor Dave & Sandy Hall, Jefferson Healthcare Center and the nurses in the ICU unit at Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.

Rosemary Reighard
October 7, 1938 - December 7, 2011
Services: December 10th, 2011 at 1:00 P. M.
Rosemary Reighard, age 73, Stumpville Rd., Jefferson Twp., died early Wednesday morning in the emergency room at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
She was born October 7, 1938 in Seth, WV, the daughter of Virgil & Martha L. (Hill) Prince and has resided in the Jefferson area since 1995, coming from Willoughby. She was married to James A. Reighard on June 24, 1960 in Seth, WV. Mrs. Reighard cooked at the Jefferson Diner for several years.
She was affiliated with the Jefferson United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #202 in Willoughby. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and going to the casinos.
Survivors include two children, Pamela L. (Charles) Holcomb of Jefferson & Mark A. (Cherie) Reighard of Roaming Shores, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother, Bobby Prince of Satellite, FL, two sisters, Jeanette Stephens of Mentor & Brenda (Clarence) Harless of Kirtland and her long time companion, Lou Zupancic.
Her parents, her husband, James in 2001 and a great-grandson, Carson Reighard all preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday at 11:00 A. M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carson Allen Reighard Foundations, c/o Mark Reighard, 2225 Fox Run Dr., Roaming Shores, OH 44084, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.
