Gene N. Kirby, age 78, First St., Dorset, died Thursday morning in the ICU Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
He was born August 25, 1933 in Bloomfield, the son of George & Lona (Koon) Kirby and has lived in this area most of his life other than spending 20 Years in Ohi, CA. Mr. Kirby was a veteran of the U. S. Marines. He was a truck driver over 40 years for the teamsters union and also owned Kirby Trucking prior to retirement.
Gene and his wife, Joyce, wintered in Zephyrhills, FL the past several years and he always enjoyed his visits with his Ashtabula Co. friends in Florida. He was a member of Relief Lodge #284 F. & A. M., enjoyed doing yard work and was a fan of Drag Racing, NASCAR and Stock Cars.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce L. (Dunford) Kirby, two children, Laurie Ann Nichols of Bakersfield, CA, a son, William Kirby of Ventura, CA, four step-children, Wendy (Dan) Fink of Dorset, Laurie Henson of Ashtabula, Cindy (Dan) Blank of Conneaut & Dale (Kim) Dunford of Jefferson, 12 grandchildren, Jamie, Veronica, Joshua, Marc, Kevin, John, Adam, Zachary, Danny, Joyce, Dale & Kyle, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Leonard Kirby of Andover and six sisters, Lilly Mathe of Warren, Louise Rhodes of Lisbon, Geneieve Zeckafoose of Queens, WV, Joann (Sheldon) Bryner of Rome, Carolyn (Richard) Hudson of Bradenton & Marilyn Maze of Coppers Cove, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Leona (Calver) Kirby, brothers, Albert, Gearld, & Freddy Kirby, sisters, Georgia Russ, Flossie Tarr, Evangeline Abbott and a special nephew, Kevin Kirby.
In keeping with Gene’s wishes no calling hours will be observed. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life on Sunday from 1-3 P. M. at the Dorset Volunteer Fire Dept., 2405 St. Rt. 193, Dorset where memorial contributions in Mr. Kirby’s name can also be made. Burial will be at a later date in Dorset Cemetery.
The Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson is handling arrangements. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to the doctors and staff at the ACMC emergency room, 2 South and the ICU nurses for their compassion, guidance and caring.
Ella Jean Wright

Ella Jean Wright, age 94, U. S. Rt. 6, New Lyme Twp., died Monday evening at the UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, PA.
She was born May 7, 1918 in New Lyme Twp., the daughter of Carl & Grace (Klump) Hubbard and has lived in New Lyme Twp. all of her life other than spending 30 years in Florida. She and her husband, Ray owned and operated Wright Place Service Station & Convenient Store in New Lyme Twp. before retirement.
Survivors include four children, Barbara Derbin of Orwell, Larry (Sally) Carr & Duane Carr (Jean), both of New Lyme Twp. & Lester (Margie) Carr of Vienna, three step-daughters, Virginia Young of Marietta, Katherine Hennigan of Edgewater, FL & Marilyn Matthews of Conneaut, numerous grandchildren, great & great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Alice Clare Woofter & Carlita Bower, both of Mecca Twp. & a brother, Roger Hubbard of Willoughby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Garland Carr in 1944, her second husband, Raymond Wright in 1990, a son, Ronald Carr in 1969, a grandson, Gary Derbin, a son-in-law, Ron Derbin, two brothers, Morrison & Robert Hubbard and two sisters, Alberta Otto & Lucille Woodruff.

Benita Carol Fusco

Benita Carol Fusco, 56 of Saybrook Township died Sunday (June 17th) as a result of a auto accident in Saybrook Township. She was born July 21, 1955 in Paintsville, Kentucky the only daughter of Lenzie Jr. and Helen (Wheeler) Tackett.
She has lived in Ashtabula County for 54 years and attended Edgewood Senior High School. She married Jesse Hamrick and to this union two children were born Joshua and Amy. She married her second husband, Chester Fusco and they had one daughter, Jacklyn. She was a stay at home mother who loved her children.
Surviving her is her mother, Helen Tackett of Ashtabula Township, a son Joshua (Melodie) Fusco of Linesville, Pa., and daughters Amy Fusco and Jackie Nosse of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Hailey, Hollie, Joslyn, Gianna and Kyah; a brother, Gary (Adria) Tackett of Greenville, Pa.; a long time friend, Michael Zezzo and many cousins who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father and by her grandparents.
Funeral service will be Thursday (June 21st) at 12:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Doug Wright of the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula officiating.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her memory can be made to any Andover Bank for her grandchildren.

Carole M. Pappas, 77 of Maple Dr. Saybrook Township died Monday (June 4th) at the Cleveland Clinic. She was born June 22, 1934 in Ashtabula the daughter of Elmer and Esther (Izzi) Herttua and has been a life time area resident.
She was a 1952 graduate of Harbor High School and has always loved and cherished living in Ashtabula. She was a great supporter of the community. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers were her passion. She was an excellent cook especially her spaghetti sauce and cabbage rolls. She loved her family and was a wonderful sister. Through the years Carole kept her family close, always giving motherly advice and sisterly love. Carole and Sam’s home was the heart of the family. Her delightful and wonderful sense of humor, loyalty, and genuine honesty are the gifts she shared so effortlessly to so many. She will be forever missed and loved.
Surviving her is her husband, Sam Pappas whom she married August 21, 1967; a sister, Vickie (Jim) Barry of Mentor; a brother, Dennis Herttua of Ashtabula; a sister-in-law, Rita Herttua of San Diego, Ca. and four nephews, Jimmy Barry, Eric Herttua, Neil Herttua and Cory Herttua. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Richard E. Herttua.
Calling hours will be Sunday (June 10th) from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula. At the family’s request there will be no funeral.

Brent Mihalick
May 22, 1941 - June 5, 2012
Brent Mihalick, age 71, Mechanicsville Rd., Harpersfield Twp., died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at his residence.
He was born May 22, 1941 in Ashtabula, the son of Dennis & Ellen (Rinto) Mihalick and has lived in this area all of his life. He was a 1959 graduate of Ashtabula High School. Mr. Mihalick owned and operated Brent’s Window Cleaning Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1996.
Brent enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was a fun loving person and was always happy.
Survivors include his best friend and wife of 42 years, Stephanie Alice Czayka, three children, Mark (Theresa) Mihalick of Ashtabula, Dean (Sheila) Mihalick of Geneva & Stephanie Sue Czayka of Los Angeles, CA, four grandchildren, Kaylie, Joey, Brandon & Holly, a brother, Mike (Patsy) Mihalick of Georgia, sister-in-laws, Nance Mihalick of Euclid, Rose Ellen Czayka of Harpersfield Twp. & Connie (Dennis Tisdel) Earl of Mesa, AZ and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother Bryan Mihalick in 2011.

Robert A. Ellsworth

Robert Austin Ellsworth, 85 of Rockwell Rd. Plymouth Township died Thursday (May 21st) at his home. He was born June 20, 1926 in Ashtabula, Ohio the son of Austin R. and Gladys (Ferguson) Ellsworth and spent his early life in Austinburg.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations. After the war he worked as a Pipe Fitter for the Ship Yards in Ashtabula; then was employed with the Ashtabula Bow Socket but his favorite job was working for the County on Covered Bridge projects.
He is a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church; a 40 year plus member of the Plymouth Township Volunteer Fire Department; a member of the Audubon Society and then the Sam Wharram Nature Club; the Covered Bridge Society; the Ashtabula County Historical Society; the Sons of the American Revolution; the Ashtabula Marine Museum and the Ashtabula Arts Center. He had a great sense of humor; he enjoyed making Maple syrup and explaining it to children; he was an avid wood craftsman who enjoyed making canes. Puzzles and yokes for carrying the Maple Sap. He was also known around Ashtabula County as “The Man in the Jeep” driving his 1946 Jeep around.
Surviving him are his wife Jeanette (Slocum) Ellsworth whom he married September 26, 2004; a daughter, Mary S. (William L. Brown) Ellsworth of Takoma Park, Maryland; two sons, John A. (Hope) Ellsworth of Lewes, Delaware and Will A. Ellsworth of Mount Vernon, Ohio; two grandchildren, Katharine Adair Brown and Austin Webb Brown and a sister, Alice Ann (Harold) Orth of Austinburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Catherine Trapp Ellsworth in 1991; a daughter, Janet L. Ellsworth; a sister, Susan Swezey and a brother, James Ellsworth in infancy.
Graveside services will be Tuesday (June 5th) at 11:00 AM at the Austin Cemetery, College Street in Austinburg, Ohio.
Calling hours will be Monday (June 4th) from 6 to 8 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Protective League; the Covered Bridge Society or to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
David P. Cedar

David P. Cedar, age 77, Trask Rd., Trumbull Twp., died late Wednesday evening at Tri-Pointe Medical Center in Concord Twp.
He was born November 19, 1937 in Meadville, PA, the son of Earl & Dolly (Wood) Cedar and has lived in Trumbull Twp. since 1993, coming from Twinsburg. Mr. Cedar retired from the Walton Hills Plant of the Ford Motor Co. in 1992. He was married to Dona C. (Beeney) Piasecki on March 7, 1992 in Twinsburg.
Mr. Cedar was a member of the Geneva Eagles and the Geneva VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Dona, three children, David (Lauri) Cedar of Columbus, Kathleen (Mark) Smith of Annapolis, MD & James Cedar of Columbus, a step-daughter, Sandra (Gary) Hanes of Cambridge, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters, Doris Petrillo of Chardon & Mary (Norm) Burger of San Amadeo, CA.
His parents, a brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
