Services: January 12th, 2015 at
Louise E. Quickel, age 91, formerly of Geneva, passed away Tuesday evening at The Lutheran Home at Concord Reserve in Westlake, Ohio, She was born September 17, 1923, the daughter of Bernard and Frances (Headley) Grabski. She married Laurel Quickel on November 15, 1947. They met working at True Temper in Geneva where she hand painted the eyes on fishing lures.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laurel in 1999, brothers George, Bernard Jr., Vernon, Earl, and her twin brother Lewis. She is survived by her sister Marie Stokes of Walkerton, IN, brother Donald of Newville, PA, daughter Patricia Quinn of North Ridgeville, son David (Brenda) of Dunwoody, Georgia, grandchildren Michelle Gildone and Joseph Wysocki, of North Ridgeville, Jill Quickel (Jeremy) Dick of Wakefield MA, Michael (Margaret) Quickel of Rockville, MD, and great-grandchildren, Victoria Gildone, Audrey and Margaret Dick, and David M. Quickel.
Louise took great pride in everything she did from her flower gardens to cooking, and her appearance. While living on South Broadway in Geneva the endless variety of brightly colored flowers in her yard received ongoing comments from those who drove by. Even when she entered assisted living, she was chosen to select and manage the plantings in many of the facility gardens. A fantastic cook and baker, friends and family alike looked forward to her meals and always plentiful Christmas cookies. She became a Certified Food Service Manager and oversaw the kitchen at Autumn Rendezvous for many years.
She was a faithful parishioner of Assumption Church since the early 1950's. Over the years she maintained the altar, assisted with the church bulletin, sold religious items after mass, and worked on baking pies for the Grape Jamboree. She walked to Mass with friends on a daily basis maintaining the postman credo of neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow stopping them. Their dedication was such that one day a stopped freight train at the Eagle Street Crossing blocked their way. Not being one who was ever late, they crawled under the stopped box cars reasoning that as long as they were going to church no harm would come to them.
While residing at Concord Reserve, she was active in bingo, the bell choir, ceramics, and other activities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Lutheran Home at Concord Reserve and Hospice of Cleveland Clinic for their outstanding care and support.
The funeral mass will be held Monday at 11:00 A. M. at the Assumption Church, 594 W. Main Rd., Geneva with the Rev. Fr. Robert Lanterman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-6 P. M. at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva. Memorial contributions can be made to Assumption Church or Lutheran Home at Concord Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors have been honored to serve the Louise Quickel family.
