Mollie A. Safcik
WEST MELBOURNE - Mollie A. Safcik, 87, of West Melbourne, Florida, died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Sterling House Assisted Living.
Born in Cleveland, she was a former resident of Ashtabula. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Ashtabula.
Survivors include; son Robert of Austinburg, daughter Sylvia Sholtis or Rockledge, Florida, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Rockledge is handling funeral arrangements.
Dorothy A. Opatrny
MIDDLEFIELD - Dorothy Ann Opatrny, 88, of Middlefield died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Briar Hill Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 26, 1912 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Anthony and Rose (Pisek) Salak. She had been a resident of Briar Hill Nursing Home since 1990, prior to that time Lyndhurst and Richmond Heights.
She was a baker at Brush High School from 1961 to 1977 and before that was the cook and baker at St. Pascal Baylon Church in Richmond Heights for five years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Chardon, president of the Mothers of the Deaf Club in Cleveland, fundraiser for AG Bell School of the Deaf in Cleveland and a member of Geauga County Department of Aging Senior Center in Chardon.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include; sons, Daniel of Chardon, Edward of Montville, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and her sister Mary Ann Peck of Nokomis, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband James in 1962, son James in 1982 and her parents.
Funeral mass will be Monday at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, 401 North St., Chardon.
Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
Ritondaro Funeral Home of 126 South St., Chardon, is handling arrangements.
Rose M. Yuhas
WARREN - Rose M. Yuhas, 90, of Warren died Sunday, May 29, 2001, at Community Skilled Nursing Centre, Warren.
She was born May 11, 1911, in Conway, Pa. to Joseph and Anna Mako. She has lived in the Warren area since 1934.
Mrs. Yuhas was a graduate of Conneaut High School, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Women's Society of the Church, the True Fellowship Class and a Charter Member of the Warren Township Garden Club.
Survivors include sons, Robert J. of Columbus, David M. of Warren, brother Paul P. Mako of Monroe Township, sister Anna M. Ware of Conneaut and five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Joseph, brothers, Joseph Mako Jr. and Frank F. Mako.
Service is Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. today, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe Township Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church.
Maudie L. Chaffee
MADISON - Maudie L. Chaffee, 83, lifelong resident of the Lake County area, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Lake East Hospital, Painesville.
A 1936 graduate of Mentor High School and a graduate of the Cleveland School of Cosmetology, she was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Hillsboro. She married Norman C. Chaffee Sr. of Sept. 16, 1938, in Painesville.
She operated a beauty shop from her home in Mentor.
Mrs. Chaffee was a long-time employee of J.C. Penney Co. Inc., from where she retired. She was an administrator for Mary Ann Rutherford's Lake Erie Academy of Cosmetology.
She was an active advisor with 4-H Clubs.
Survivors include three sons, Norman of Madison, Dale of Byesville, and Roy of Madison; a daughter, Darla Brant of Perry; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in October 2000; a sister, Bessie Stackhouse; and two brothers, Leslie and Frank Johnson.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River St., Madison. The Rev. Robert Gaston, Chaplain of the Lake Hospital Systems, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mentor Municipal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Anna L. Logan
GUSTAVUS - Anna L. Logan, 84, of Gustavus, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Horizon Hospital Greenville, Pa.
Born March, 13, 1917, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., to Arthur S. and Anna Beck.
Formerly of Cadiz, Mrs. Logan was a Gustavus resident since 1940. She was a 1934 graduate of Scio High School in Scio. She earned her teaching certificate in 1936 from Kent State University.
She taught school for several years for the Doe Run School in Harrison County and Bristol School in this area and substituted for local area schools.
She married George D. on Oct. 12, 1940. They owned and operated Loganway Farms in Gustavus for many years.
She was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church, where she served on the Ladies Community Aide program. Mrs. Logan was also a member of the Gustavus Grange, Gustavus Farm Bureau Council, the Mary Chesney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the U & I literary club, Mothers Club, AG Forum of Trumball County and she was and advisor for 4-H for 45 years and a member of the Gustavus Historical Society.
Survivors include sons, Gary of West Bend, Wisc., Jay R. and Arthur, both of Gutavus, Myron G. of Gilbert, Ariz., Duane of Plain City; daughter Virginia of Canton; sister, Elizabeth B. Welsh of Cadiz; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Frances B. Smith and Kathryn M. Beck.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, with Robert P. Jeffers officiating.
Burial will take place in Gustavus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be at the funeral home today from 3 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Michael J. Turkoc
BURTON TOWNSHIP - Michael J. Turkoc, 82, of Burton Township, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Geauga Regional Hospital.
He was born June 20, 1918, in Cleveland to John and Stella Turkoc.
He married Theresa Rugel in 1946. He was a resident of Burton Township since 1946.
Mr. Turkoc was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant in the 340th Bomb Squadron during World War II, serving in the European Theatre.
He was awarded the Bronze Star for his mechanical talents while serving in the Air Force. He was an avid reader, he enjoyed fishing, building things and working with antiques and clocks.
He was a mechanic for most of his life.
Survivors include his wife Theresa; daughter, Kim Vanderwist of South Russell Village; sons, Michael J. of Boston, Don of Lodi, Calif., Gerald of Chardon, Mark of Burton; sisters, Josephine Sorozak of Florida, Sophie Meier of Montville Township, Helen Howels of Middlefield, Dorothy Royak of Cleveland; brothers, Joseph, Walter of Arizona, John of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Stella Katanik and brother Steve.
The family will host a gathering for family and friends at the home of his daughter, Kim Vanderwist, 67 Maple Hill Drive, South Russell on Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Burr Funeral Home and Cremation 116 South St., Chardon.
John R. Overly
ANDOVER - John R. Overly, 59, of 166 Gates St., died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born April 9, 1942 in Wilkinsburg, Pa., to Owen D. and Virginia M. (Currie) Overly. He married Carol M. Wallace July 11, 1964. He was a lifetime Andover resident.
Mr. Overly attended Andover High School and graduated from Carson Long Military Institute in Carlisle, Pa.
He was Andover Village administrator for eight years. He served five years active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and 28 years in the Air Force Reserve's 910 Air Life Wing, retiring this year as command chief master sergeant . He was employed more than 25 years with the Ashtabula County Sanitation Department and operated the Hollday Campland water and sewerage facility more than 30 years.
Mr. Overly was a member of Andover Village Council. He was also part of the board of the Ashtabula County Veterans' Service Commission, the Ashtabula County Planning Commission, the Bronzewood Golf Club, Kinsman; the First Congregational Church of Andover, Air Force Sergeant Association, Washington, D.C.; and Chief's Group, Youngstown. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4035, Andover; and the Andover Christmas committee and was a member and past commander of Percy D. Hyatt Post 226 American Legion, Andover.
Survivors include his wife; daughters Jackie L. Plizga of North Bloomfield and Julie K. Romanowski of Andover; parents Owen and Virginia Overly of Ocala, Fla.; brothers Dale O. Overly of Johnston Township and Mike L. Overly of Andover; sister Becky J. Stevenson of Andover; and grandchildren Brandy L. and Casey R. Romanowski of Andover and Tyler J. Plizga of North Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by brother Charles David Overly and grandson Taylor Jay Plizga.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, officiated by the Rev. Scott A. Ressman. Burial is in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
