Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Samblanet, age 70
Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Samblanet, age 70, formerly of Louisville, Ohio passed away peacefully at home Sunday, September 20th after a long battle with Parkinson's. Born November 23, 1949 to the late John and Elizabeth (Bresson) Samblanet.
He was preceded in death by great-nephew, A.J.Nicholson.
Survived by his wife of 50 years, Lynne K. (Horner) Samblanet and daughter Courtney, whom he dearly loved. Larry is survived by sister Connie (Oscar) Lewis of Virginia, Nancy (Randy) Nicholson, Donald (Julie) Samblanet, JoAnn (Greg) Sluss, Kenneth (Yvonne) Samblanet all of Louisville. Sister-in-law RuthAnn Leonard of Upper Arlington, and brother-in-law Patrick (Angie) Higgins of Gallion, 21 nieces and nephews, 20 great-nieces and nephews, lifelong friends Tom and Linda Cassidy and Gary and Kim Lipely.
Larry was a 1968 graduate of Louisville High School and graduate of The University of Akron. Retiree of HP Products in Louisville.
Larry was a loyal Leopard, Buckeye, and Tribe fan!
He is most remembered as a devoted spouse and father, family man and faithful friend.

Jean E. Rhine, 92
CANFIELD - Jean E. Rhine, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 19, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born November 8, 1927 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Hilda (Johnson) Kutsko. Raised in Warren, she was a 1945 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Jean married the love of her life, Luther Rhine, on April 21, 1956 and together they raised six children. Prior to her marriage, Jean was employed as a bookkeeper for the Trumbull Lamp Plant of General Electric in Warren, but her true passion was her subsequent career as homemaker and mother. Jean's Catholic faith was important to her, and she was a Charter Member of both St. Michael Parish and the Altar Guild. As a 61-year resident of the Canfield community, she also took great pride in serving as an election poll worker for many years. 'Jeanie' was an avid bridge player, crossword puzzle enthusiast, voracious reader and loved to travel. Nothing made her happier than time spent with her family, especially her twin sister 'Joanie' and her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jeanie was a trusted and loyal friend to many and greatly enjoyed any opportunity to share some treasured time with all. These past few years, Jean enjoyed participating in the many activities at Hudson Grande Senior Living where she lived with her loving husband, Luther, recently deceased July 10, 2020. Jean is survived her children, Susan (Kel) Bergmann of San Diego, CA, Julie (Bill) Kodatsky of Hudson, Molly (Bob) Syms of Elyria, Nancy (Jim) Cleveland of Hudson, Amy (Dave) Rhine-Pallas of Columbus and John (Karen) Rhine of Los Altos, CA; her grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Kodatsky, Kirstie Kodatsky, Carly Syms, Lauren Bergmann, Natalie Cleveland and Sachi Rhine; and her great-grandchildren, Preston and Conrad Kodatsky.
Besides her parents and her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Mills.
Private family Services will be held, with a Memorial Service at a later date.

Wess Charnesky, 63
YOUNGSTOWN - Wess Charnesky, 63, passed away Thursday morning, September 17, 2020 at his home after a long battle with COPD with his family at his side.
He was born December 25, 1956 in Youngstown, the son of Wesley and Amelia (Corna) Charnesky.
Wess was employed with Gulf States Toyota in Houston, TX for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
He was also a talented Carpenter and a jack-of-all trades.
Wess was a 1974 graduate of Chaney High School and attended college in Houston, TX.
Wess was a train enthusiast, everything from Model trains to Amtrack trains.
He enjoyed Antiques and driving through Mill Creek Park and Downtown Youngstown.
Wess also enjoyed going to Idora Park and Kennywood Amusement Park.
Wess is survived by his wife of 22 years, Shelley Michelle Seidita; his sisters, Nancy (Walt) Muennich of Arizona and Eva Okusewsky of Canfield; his nieces, Sheila (Michael) Constantino and Angela Okusewsky; his nephews, Joey (Kellie) LaGrasta and Stan Okusewsky; his grandchildren, Angela Bettura, Joseph Bettura and Harlow Seidita and Shelley's children and extended family.
There will be a Service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens Chapel.

Barbara Ann Mikita Maxim, 67
Barbara Ann Mikita Maxim, 67, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic. Barbara was born September 11, 1953 in Youngstown, the daughter of Peter and Lucy (Roman) Mikita.
She was a 1971 Graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and had attended Youngstown State University. She retired in 2013 from Plaza Book and Smoke Shop where she had worked in the Bookkeeping and Accounting Department. She had also worked for the DeBartlo Corporation prior to that. Barbara was a member of the Catholic faith and attended St. Michael Church in Canfield.
She was active with the Eastern Regional Kidney Foundation and Akron Children's Hospital.
She was also involved with the Mahoning County Board of Elections. Barbara was also an avid golfer. Her husband, John Maxim, whom she married September 22, 1983, passed away November 14, 2019. Barbara leaves a daughter, Courtney Maxim of Cleveland, and a sister Nancy Mikita of Fairview Park.
Besides her parents and her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter Kaylee Maxim. A Catholic Rite of Burial will be held at 10 AM Friday, September 25, 2020 at St. Michael Church. There are no calling hours.
Dr. H. Gene Shafer, 91
Dr. H. Gene Shafer, 91, of Salem died peacefully Wednesday, September 16, 2020 after a long battle with PLS.
He was born September 15, 1929 in Warren, Ohio, the only child of Albert Louis Shafer and Mildred Grace Smail Shafer. Gene graduated from Salem High School in 1947 and proceeded on to Mount Union University graduating in 1951, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Biology. While at Mount Union, Gene became a Brother of Sigma Nu fraternity. After college at Mount, he was accepted into Dental School at Case Western Reserve. Meeting his beloved wife Ruth Ann Martin at Mount. They married in 1954 while Gene finished Dental School and after graduation from Case, Gene and Ruth moved directly to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. As a Captain in the Air Force, Gene practiced dentistry until he and his beloved wife returned home in 1958 to raise their children. Gene was an elder and loved singing in the choir as an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Salem.
He was a musician and studied voice for thirty years, loved acting, and spent much time entertaining audiences at the Salem Community Theatre as Scrooge in Dicken's Christmas Carol. He also performed in Oliver and many other musicals. As a vocal artist, he performed vocal concerts for churches and those in the nursing homes. Gene also owned and loved racing standard-bred horses at Northfield Park, enjoying the fair circuit during the summer months. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dentist. His wife, Ruth Ann Martin Shafer preceded him in death October 1, 2019 and a great-grandson, William Gene Selway, also preceded him in death. Gene is survived by his son, Hal Shafer (Tici), his daughter, Carol Shafer Brown, five grandchildren Matthew (Angie), Katie (Michael) Newland, Ann (Jamie) Martyniak, Chris (Danielle) Brown, Laura (Josh) Selway. Four great-grandchildren, Hudson E. Selway, Benjamin E. Shafer, Sophia Catherine and Olivia Kate Newland. A Victorious Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Hal Shafer officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The interment at Grandview Cemetery will take place and all wishing to attend are welcome.

Stewart B. 'Stew' McCurdy, 92
CORTLAND, OH - Stewart B. 'Stew' McCurdy, 92, passed away peacefully in his home on September 17, 2020.
He was born in Pittsburgh on July 30, 1928, the son of Stewart L. and Ragnhild 'Ronne' (Brynoldt) McCurdy. Stew married the love of his life, Joan (McDougall) McCurdy, 66 years ago on October 10, 1953. He had many interests and hobbies and he loved the outdoors. An avid sailor, he and his wife were members of the Cortland Conservation Club where they spent many days sailing, having picnics, and socializing. They started Monday race night where Stew won many races with his ability to use the wind for speed. He also taught himself to windsurf and spent many hours enjoying Mosquito Lake. Stew liked to camp, ride motorcycles and enjoyed his life to the fullest. Stew graduated high school from the Randolph Macon Military Academy in Front Royal, VA. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Grove City College in Grove City, PA. Stew spent his career in the steel industry at Republic Steel/LTV/WCI in Warren and retired in 1992 as Senior Industrial Engineer. He is survived by his spouse, four daughters: Christine (Keith) Brown of Hudson, Gini (Mark) Stevenson of Port Clinton, Linda (Robert) Underwood of Millersville, Maryland and Nancy (Gary) Montagna of Warren; six grandchildren: Ben (Amanda Simons) Brown, Rebecca Brown, Ted (Theresa) Livingstine, Paige Stevenson, Justin (Becky Mikesh) Liebermann, Vince Liebermann; and six great-grandchildren: Franklin Brown, Bryson and Bria Livingstine and Dylan, Dean and Damon Liebermann.
He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Bruce (Beverly) McCurdy, an aunt, Hedde Brynoldt (Robert) Staley, an uncle, Ralph (Merci) McCurdy, and a sister-in-law Ruth (Gerald) Spence.
He leaves behind three cousins: Carole Staley Ginchereau, Aurelia Staley, and Robert Staley; four nieces: Ellen Dameron, Meredith Klassen, Kate McCurdy and Anna McDonald; and a nephew, James Spence. One nephew, John Spence, preceded him in death. The family would like to express their gratitude to Edwina Kindle for her kindness and caregiving for Stew and his wife, Joan.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cortland branch of the Warren Library, where he enjoyed many afternoons during his retirement. A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 24, 2020 at 1:30PM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for family only and with a strict mask policy. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Cortland, Ohio.

Terry Robert David Rush, 35
Topeka, Kansas - Terry Robert David Rush, better known as 'T', age 35, passed away tragically, Tuesday September 1, 2020 in Kansas as a result of an automobile accident. Terry was born December 30, 1984 in Warren to Terry L. and Stephanie (Six) Rush. Terry was a member of the 2002 Maplewood Cross Country team that won State.
He was a 2003 graduate of Maplewood High School. After high school, Terry joined the U.S. Army, he received his honorable discharge in 2005. T loved the great outdoors and all of its creatures; he was a kind and loving soul. He enjoyed running and cooking. T operated the Gyroville restaurant in Topeka. T is preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother and step-father Stephanie Rush Alderman and William Alderman; his beloved daughter Vaedah Rush; his sister Summer DeMathews; and many cousins and friends. Funeral services are private.
Nancy Lee (Larsen) Bowen, 70
Nancy Lee (Larsen) Bowen, 70, passed away surrounded by her family on September 14, 2020 at Hospice House. Nancy was born on August 14, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, the only daughter of Donald Larsen and Marilyn Ann (Smith) Casper. A 1968 graduate of Nicholas Senn High School Nancy was passionate about art.
Besides her family, Nancy's greatest achievement was that she was a self-taught published digital artist. Nancy was an animal lover who will be missed by her fur baby Layla. Her memory will be carried on by her sons, Timothy (Rhea) Larsen and Todd (Brandi) Larsen; 6 grandchildren Krystina, T.J., Tawney, Kelsey, Austin and Tommy; 7 great-grandchildren and her brother Steve (Gay) Lan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent Bowen, her parents and twin grandsons Anthony and Todd Larsen, Jr. The family will celebrate Nancy's life with a private service. Nancy's family would like to give special thanks to Tenisha McPeters for the love and care given to their Mother over the years.

Larry Edward Wade, 69
SALEM - Larry Edward Wade, 69, died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Mercy Health - St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
He was born May 28, 1951 in Youngstown, son of the late Mack and Marilyn (Spayde) Wade. Larry was a 1969 graduate of Chaney High School. He worked as a machinist for 16 years at Radial Grinding in Akron. Larry was an avid ham radio operator.
He was previously a volunteer firefighter and first responder in Canfield. Larry loved watching sports, especially the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State football.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Bartholow) Beard whom he married May 19, 2017; three children, Angela (Eric) Wade Cline of Austintown; Wendy Wade Thomas (fiancé Col. Nicolo Damelio) of Girard and Chad (Tammy) Wade of Canfield; stepdaughter, Jana (Nikki) Beard of Boardman; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, a stepson, Michael Beard also preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at Stark Memorial. Friends will be received from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Douglas 'Doug' Charles Rose, 60
COLUMBIANA - Douglas 'Doug' Charles Rose, 60, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.
He was born March 30, 1960 in Youngstown, a son of Charles and Leona (Mistovich) Rose. Doug was the owner and operator of Pogo's Pub in Youngstown.
He was a 1978 graduate of Canfield High School. Doug loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He was a people person and was very charitable. He liked all sports. Doug was a die - hard Cleveland Browns Fan and also enjoyed playing Fantasy Football. Doug is survived by his mother, Lee Rose of Columbiana; his daughter, Kristen Rose of Los Angeles, CA; his son, Kenneth Rose of Cleveland; his brother, David (Kimberly) Rose of Canfield and his sister, Cheryl Rose of Columbiana. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Charles. According to Doug's wishes, there are no calling hours or services at this time.
