Carmen Gatrell Lustritz, age 89
Lake Milton - Carmen Gatrell Lustritz, age 89, passed away Tuesday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Carmen was born October 18, 1930 in Deep Valley, West Virginia the oldest daughter of Wilbur and Lorena (Duty) Gatrell. Carmen was a little girl when her family moved to Berlin Center, Ohio. She will be remembered for having the absolute cleanest house and her yard always looked impeccable.
She was always fashionably dressed and enjoyed shopping for her wardrobe. She enjoyed her neighbors and kept a keen eye on her neighborhood.
She was an accomplished cook and baker; she made the best Rum Cake, Ambrosia Salad, and the most delicious stuffed cabbage! Carmen retired in 1990 from Packard Electric as a harness maker for over 28 years. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing bingo, and playing the slot machines. Her family was paramount in her life, she doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she enjoyed the times she spent with her nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Lustritz; her son, T. Wayne Lustritz, her sister Betty, her brothers Raymond, Denver, Russell, and Daris. Carmen is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Jim) McKnight, her grandchildren, Melanie (Gabe) Wanchick and Jim (Daphne) McKnight, her beloved great-grandchildren Kesston and Ellie Wanchick; her brother Randall Gatrell, sister-in-law Darlene (Delbert) Mix; and several nieces and nephews, and good friends. Funeral services will be private, Interment will be in Hartzell Cemetery. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses that cared for Carmen at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Nolan Norbert Schaff, 72
SALEM - Nolan Norbert Schaff, 72, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 11, 2020 at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
He was born March 10, 1948 in Dickinson, ND during the worst blizzard. Nolan was the son of the late Mike and Selma Schaff. Nolan served in the US Army from 1968 - 1976 and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He drove a truck for 31 years, going by the CB radio handle of Diamondback. Nolan loved his wife and children and enjoyed westerns and playing pinochle with his sons. Nolan was greatly loved by his family and his memory will live on in the lives of all those he loved, inspired and protected. We will miss his great sense of humor and playfulness. He is survived by his wife Patricia; daughters, Tonya (Mike) McKenna, Sunee (Joshua) Reiner, sons, Lucas (Stacey) Schaff, Matt (partner Sheila) Schaff, grandsons, Michael, Nolan, George, James, Ethan, and Talis; granddaughters, Emily, Savannah, Cheyenne, and Mya; great-granddaughters, Cobayne, Chloe and Evelyn; sisters, Jean, Magdalene, Rosella and Joan and brother, Jamie.
Besides his parents, his son, Nolan Michael; brothers, Matt, David and Frank and grandson, Angel also preceded him in death. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert Edwards officiating. For the safety of the Schaff family and visitors, please adhere to social distancing, and bring your own mask.

Cheryl Sue Winters, age 70
Salem - Cheryl Sue Winters, age 70, of Salem, died on Friday, September 11, 2020 at her home in Salem.
She was born on September 11, 1950 in Salem, OH, daughter of the late John and Ruth Cehrs Winters. Cheryl had worked at No Limit Workshop, she enjoyed arts and crafts, puzzles, photography and decorating for the holidays.
She was always excited to spend time with her family during the holidays. Cheryl is survived by a sister, Evelyn Hall of Leetonia; eight nieces, Beth Hall, Monica Janiak, Krissy Villatoro, Peggy Dalton, Charlotte Schmidt, Annette Vanhorn, Amy Falk and Alicia McCoy; three nephews, John Hall, Shane Dalton and John Humphreys; a brother in Law, Dave Witherow; a special friend, Kenny Miller; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews and all the staff at Turning Point.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Janet Dalton, Rosetta Humphreys and Dolores Witherow and a niece, Marie Cantwell. Due to the Covid - 19 pandemic the family will be having a private memorial service at the Woods - Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Pastor Teresa Smolka officiating.
Charles C. Swinehart, age 71
Charles C. Swinehart, age 71 of Bazetta, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 9, 2020.
He was born November 2, 1948 in Bucyrus, OH the son of L.A. and Helen (Walton) Swinehart. Chuck lived most of his life in Warren, attending Warren G. Harding High School where he graduated in 1967. The he graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in history and psychology. Chuck proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the US Army with the rank of Sergeant in 1976. Early in life he worked as the manager of his family's horse operation and the later as a self-employed financial manager. Chuck loved the outdoors, his farm and the animals on it. He also credits and loved his caregivers Sherry & James Youngman for making his life, to the end, a pleasant experience.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Following cremation, a private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Angels for Animals.
Joseph Batina, 83
Lordstown Township - Joseph Batina, 83, passed away on Thursday September 10, 2020 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Joseph was born on May 14, 1937 in Timblin, PA, the son of the late Nick and Sophia (Mibolich) Batina. On February 5, 1972, he married the love of his life, Elaine Batina, and they shared 39 wonderful years together before her passing in 2011. Joseph had proudly served his country in the United States Army as a medic from 1962 until 1966 when he was honorably discharged. After getting out of the service, he worked as a furniture craftsman for 11 years. Joseph then went on to work at General Motors for 32 years. There were many things that Joseph enjoyed doing.
He loved to putter around the garden, woodwork, spend time with his friends, and listen to country music. Even though he loved these things, he did not love them more than his family. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending as much time with them as possible.
He was a true family man. Joseph will be missed dearly by his daughters, Christine (John) Schaeffer and Susan (Alan) Zielinski; his grandchildren Ashley Schaeffer, Austin Schaeffer, Adam Zielinski, and Ryan Zielinski; his sister Barbara Facemyer; and many other family and friends. Besides for his parents and his wife Elaine, Joseph is preceded in death by eight siblings. Visitation for Joseph will be held on Tuesday September 15, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lane Funeral Homes, Roberts - Clark Chapel. The service will be on Wednesday September 16 at 10:00am with Father Francis Katrinak officiating at the funeral home. Joseph will be laid to rest at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made out to the VFW Post 1090 located at 611 High St. NE, Warren, OH 44483.
George H. Zohnd, 100
COLUMBIANA - George H. Zohnd, age 100, of Columbiana, died on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at Windsor House at Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana.
He was born on July 23, 1920, in New Martinsville, WV, son of the late Henry and Ida Bruny Zohnd. George served in the Army Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He had worked as a machinist with L. W. Nash Company in East Palestine and was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Columbiana. George enjoyed pitching horseshoes, golfing, bowling and playing softball for Jerusalem Lutheran Church. He had the honor of raising the U.S. flag at the Columbiana home football games for over 50 years. George was also a member of the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion, Columbiana, Allen Lodge #276 F. & A.M and the Columbiana Auxillary Police. In his free time George enjoyed camping with his family and taking bus trips after retirement. His wife, Dorothy L. Burkey Zohnd, whom he married on February 2, 1946, preceded him in death on, August 22, 2012. George is survived by his two daughters, Sherry A. Shaffer of Columbiana and Pamela S. (Tom) King of New Waterford; a son, Jeff A. (Debbie) Zohnd of Columbiana; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; a grandson, Aaron Zohnd, three sisters, Alma Stanonik, Imogene DeZee and Elizabeth DeZee and a brother, Harold Zohnd.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 14, 2020 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana. Private family services will be held, with Pastor Jeffrey Corbett officiating. Burial will take place at Zion Cemetery, New Middletown. Military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion Honor Guard
Esther M. Tsalonis, 82
Esther M. Tsalonis, age 82 of Mecca Township, went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Esther was born on August 30, 1938 in Franklin, PA to Paul & Margaret (Pritchard) Lesh. After graduation from Farmington High School, Esther was united in marriage on July 24, 1961 to the love of her life Thomas Tsalonis. Esther was a lady of faith and active in her church home, Fowler Community Church. She also spent many years bowling on numerous leagues. However, her true passion was her family. Esther was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring sister, but most importantly she was a dedicated Yia - Yia to her grandchildren.
Besides her husband of 59 years, Esther is survived by her children Malinda Johnson, Mike Tsalonis and Nick (Riva) Tsalonis; her grandchildren: Brian Shaffer, Madison (Kevin) Goodman, Morgan Melick, Maria Tsalonis and her great-grandchildren: Briannah, Konnor, Lorelie, Maebh, Teighan, Braxton, Deacon, and Wesley; her siblings: Wilma Mohney, Lionel (Barb) Lesh, Sharon (Richard) Matkovich, Ed (Gayle) Lesh and Ginny (Dave) Pykare. Esther was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Fred, Dick, Beverly, Larry, Hope, Faith, Jimmy - Dick. Visitation for Esther will be held on Sunday September 13, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Fowler Community Church; 4665 OH - 305, Fowler, OH where a funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m.
Ronald Alan 'Ron' Durst, Sr., 67
Ronald Alan 'Ron' Durst, Sr., 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Monroe County Hospital in Forsyth, Georgia.
He was born on January 7, 1953 in Warren, Ohio to Leland S. and Louise E. (Clark) Durst.
He was a graduate of Bristol High School and held an Associate Degree from Kent State University. Ron was employed as a truck driver for most of his life and as a bus driver and Amish hauler in later years.
He was a good mechanic of cars, motorcycles and lawn mowers and many of family said that if he could not fix it, no one could. Of all the things in Ron's life, his love of his family was the most defining. He cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren and never hesitated at the opportunity to help. He found great joy in using his talents and knowledge to help his family, friends and neighbors in any way he was able. Ron was preceded in death by his wife Pearl (Johnson) Durst and his parents as well as his older brother Walt (Joy) Durst and his sister-in-law Judy Durst. He will be sadly missed by his children Ronald (Ashley) Durst, Tiffany (Jerry) Durst - Droeder, Michael (Jena) Durst, and Damion Durst; his grandchildren: Hailie, Kaden and James Durst, AJ, Elizabeth and Jeremy Droeder. Ron had such a big heart that he will also be missed by his 'adopted children' Amanda Erb, Rachel Miller and Frank Parker. He is also survived by his brothers David Durst and Edd (Kathy) Durst, Sr. and his sisters Catherine (Al) Klouda, V. Kay (Ken) Weeks and Linda Wyatt along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Ron will be held on Monday September 14, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday September 15, 2020 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer - Winans Chapel; where services will immediately follow on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
Katherine I. Lodwick, 83
Katherine I. Lodwick, 83, of Canfield died Wednesday afternoon at Salem Community Hospital. Katherine was born April 20, 1937 in Warren, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Agnes (Tonkovich) Puskarich and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School and had been a nurses' aid for several local nursing homes. Katherine had also sold Avon, Amway and Bee - Line.
She was a member of St. Michael Parish, where she sang in the choir; enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid bingo player. Katherine loved to cook, especially the Croatian dishes that she had learned from her mother. She leaves her husband, William J. Lodwick, whom she married May 21, 1955; four sons, William G. Lodwick of Jacksonville, Florida, Michael D. (Denise) Lodwick of Howland, Steven M. (Karen) Lodwick of North Jackson and Ronald E. (Holly) Lodwick of Fredericktown, Ohio. Katherine also leaves two sisters, Ann Prokop of Warren, Mary (Robert) Miller of Niles; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas, and Steven and a sister, Mildred. Friends may call on Monday from 10 am until 10:45 am at St. Michael Parish, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Due to COVID - 19, the 6 - foot rule will be honored, and we ask that all guests, whose health allows, please wear a mask. For the safety of everyone, we ask that visitors not linger at the church after seeing the family.

Irene Brown, 97
Irene Brown, 97, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 8, 2020 at Shepherd of the Valley Assisted Living in Liberty. Irene was born September 28, 1922 in Freeburn, Kentucky.
She was the daughter of the late Steve and Esther (Boke) Leckie.
She was a graduate from Matewan High School in West Virginia where she was a cheerleader and came to Youngstown when she was 19.
She married Jack T. Brown of Poland, Ohio on June 25, 1946 who passed away on February 13, 1961. She leaves a son, Burt (Sharon) Brown of Hermitage, PA and a daughter, Cheri (Bill) Clever of Sarasota, Florida. Four grandchildren, Michael Clever, Jack Clever, Burt Brown Jr. and Amy Brown and four great-grandchildren, Victoria Clever, Tommy Brown, Cheyenne Brown and Hunter Brown. Three sisters, Mary Yackso, Julia Gordon and Elizabeth Brown and two brothers, Steve and James Leckie all whom are deceased. Irene was a loving, dedicated mother and homemaker and worked as a hairdresser for over 40 years.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Irene enjoyed playing bingo and spending time at the Austintown Senior Center where she was a member.
She loved cooking for her family. Irene will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Canfield, Ohio. Private graveside services will be held at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene's name to Austintown Senior Center, Austintown, Ohio.
