Dan Lee Hom
Funeral services will be at noon on Monday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Dan Lee Hom, 90, of Austintown, who died early Thursday morning at Briarfield Manor. Dan was one of seven children born to the late Doo Toy and Lee Shee Hom on Nov 4, 1929 and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from The Rayen School in 1950, attended Youngstown State University and graduated from the Cleveland Engineering Institute Technical School in Machine Design. Following high school, Dan served in the United States Army as a medic during Korean War. He worked with his brothers at the Youngstown Steel mills, and at the post office as a sorter for over 30 years. Dan also owned and operated restaurants and concession stands including the Hong Kong Restaurant, Youngstown and the Asian Gardens in Austintown .He enjoyed a full life after surviving quadruple bypass surgery 20 years ago. Dan enjoyed domestic and international travel, fishing, landscaping and most important was spending time with his family. He leaves his wife, Anna, whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage earlier this year; three children, Richard Hom of N. Royalton, Nancy (Tom) Henshaw of Austintown, Tony Hom of Dublin and two grandsons, Tyler and Trevor. Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by three brother. Tom Hom, Willie Hom, Paul Hom; three sisters, Mary Sze, Jeannie Chin and Martha Leong. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 am until noon, followed by the funeral service at noon, where social distancing will be practiced with a limited number of friends visiting at one time. As a social courtesy, please wear a mask or facial covering.

Shirley Mae Snyder
Shirley Mae Snyder, 88, formerly of Austintown, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020, at Cortland Healthcare Center. Born November 19, 1931 in Youngstown, Ohio, Shirley was the daughter of John Leland and Miriam (Westbaker) Buchwalter.
She was a high school graduate of Austintown Fitch. Prior to retirement, Shirley worked at Dale Dry Cleaners for over 30 years. Shirley's interests included reading, baking, sewing, embroidery and cross stitch.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Clarence S. Snyder, who she married June 30, 1956 and died March 1, 2011. Her infant daughter Kathy, and her brothers Thomas and Richard Buchwalter also preceded her death. She leaves to cherish her memory, her nieces; Cindy Brostek, Barb Grecar, Linda (Harold) Kemery, and Ruthie (Troy) Palich, her nephews; John Buchwalter and Jeff (Holly) Buchwalter; ten great nieces and nephews, three great-great nephews and one great-great niece.
Private services were held and Shirley was laid to rest next to her husband at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Shirley's healthcare family at Clearview Lantern Suites and Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care and compassion. Monday June 15, 2020
Geraldine L. Williams
AUSTINTOWN - Geraldine L. Williams, 63, passed away Friday morning, June 12, 2020 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
She was born January 15, 1957 in Youngstown, a daughter of Chauncey J. and Alice J. (Hopes) Corll. Gerry was a Para - Professional with the Austintown School System.
She was a 1975 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. Gerry was a member of the Smith Corners United Methodist Church where she was very active. Gerry was a proud Breast Cancer Survivor and also a Life Bank Donor.
She was also very involved with the PTA and bowled with the Thursday Night Ladies. Gerry was the Treasurer for the O.A.P.S.E. (Ohio Assoc. of Public School Employees) No. 194. She also enjoyed crafting. More than anything, Gerry loved spending time with her family, especially supporting her daughters and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Gerry is survived by her mother, Alice; her daughters, Sarah J. (Paul Sammartino) Williams of Austintown and Megan L. (Michael) Bodnar of Cortland; her sister, Nora J. Ranalli of Austintown; her brothers, Michael J. (Erin) Corll of Austintown, David E. (Kathy) Corll of Portage, IN, Ronald A. Corll of Charleston, SC and Paul E. (Diana) Corll of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Gigi, Braedon Sammartino, Michaela and Mackenzie Bodnar and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Chauncey. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes - Austintown Chapel and 10 - 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the Service at 11 a.m. at Smith Corners United Methodist Church.

Thomas Richard Jones
Thomas Richard Jones, 87, of Austintown Twp., passed away Monday evening, June 8, 2020 at Heritage Manor Care Center. Tom was born February 7, 1933 in Canfield, Ohio the son of Adam and Marie (Sereg) Jones.
He was a hairdresser for more than 50 years and retired December 29, 2012 from International Hair. Tom was a veteran serving in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church of Girard where he sang in the choir. Tom also sang with the Youngstown Symphony and Choir as a baritone and tenner. In 1985 he performed at Carnegie Hall. Tom was also very active in the theater, performing with Easy Street, the Youngstown Playhouse, and the Trumbull New Theater groups. He leaves his companion of more than 50 years, Robert Wilson of Austintown, a brother, John (Sandy) Jones of Austintown as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tom is preceded in death by two brothers, Edward, and Robert Jones, and one sister Norma Saffron. Family and friends may call from 2 to 3 PM Saturday June 20, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church of Girard, where a memorial service will begin at 3 PM.

Marion (Mary) Nykula Shook
Marion (Mary) Nykula Shook, 97, of Austintown Twp., passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Austinwoods Care Center. Mary was born March 8, 1923 in Youngstown, the daughter of Basil Nykula and Melania (Mollie) Djubinsky.
She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School class of 1941. Mary worked at Youngstown Steel Door as an aircraft fuel tank welder during WWII. She welded the fuel tanks used on her husband's PV - 1 aircraft flown by his VMF(N) - 531 Marine Corps fighter squadron in the Pacific Islands. After the war Mary took on her most important role as a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary loved playing cards, bird watching, sewing, leatherworking, and multiple needle crafts. Her husband, Lawrence A. Shook, whom she married July 28, 1942, passed away January 27, 2003. Mary leaves three daughters, Constance (Gary) Shook Philips, Norma (Robert) Shook Sacoman, and Beverly Shook (Bowmaster) Bretschneider, a daughter-in-law, Diane Shook as well as seven grandchildren, Derrick Philips, Wendy Philips Marczika, Kerrie Philips Flint, Dana Sacoman Cromwell, Robert Sacoman II, Dr. Christopher Bowmaster and Blake Bretschneider and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Dieter.
Besides her parents and her husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Richard Shook, a grandson, Ryan Bretschneider, a brother Michael Nykula, and step sister, Marie Tomlin. Mary will be laid to rest with her husband Lawrence at Arlington National Cemetery.
Nancy A. Snyder
Nancy A. Snyder, 77, of Austintown, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at her home. Born September 4, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, Nancy was the daughter of the late Sherman and Eleanor (Greathouse) Kuhn. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and the sound of their laughter. She enjoyed going out to eat and listening to game shows at home.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her children Bobby Lee Binion, David Snyder, and Cindy Binon; her sisters Rosie Kuhn and Betty Hodge and her brothers Vergil, Raymond, Jack, Sam, Jake and Fred Kuhn. Nancy is survived by her husband Terry Snyder of 49 years, whom she married April 24, 1971; her son Mark; her sister Goldie (Glen) Creech; her grandchildren Destiny, D.J., Nathaniel, Nevaeh, Justin, Allie, Tony and her nieces Jeannie (Richard), Melannie, Emily, Lourye, Hope, and Lexi and her nephew Caleb Private family services will be held and interment will take place at Kerr Cemetery. Kenneth 'Ken' R. Bigler Sr.
Kenneth 'Ken' R. Bigler Sr., of Austintown, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Youngstown. Born July 30, 1945 in Warren, Ohio, Ken is the son of the late Roy and Shirley (Woodward) Bigler. Ken is a 1963 graduate of North Jackson and received a Bachelor's Degree in Administration with a minor in Accounting from Youngstown State University in 1970. Prior to retirement, Ken worked as a Cost Estimator for Copperweld, Shenango China and the Debartlo Corp. He also worked as laborer at Youngstown Steel Door and Kraftmaid, retiring in 2011.
He was a member of Four Mile Run Church in Austintown and the Penn Ohio Singers Barber Shop. Ken is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years, the former Mary Ann Dillon; his sons Kenneth Bigler Jr. and Mark Bigler; grandchildren Reece Heitsenrather, Matthew Marksberry and Cody Marksberry and beloved pup Boots. Private services will be held and Ken was laid to rest at Green Have Memorial Gardens. The family will honor Ken with a Memorial Service at a later date. Sunday May 17, 2020
Leonard J. Bretcko, 66
Leonard J. Bretcko, 66 of Austintown, died Thursday evening at Oasis Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, Youngstown. Leonard was born July 24, 1953 in McKeesport, PA, a son of the late John S. and Mary A. (Zupkow) Bretcko. Leonard grew up in Clairton, PA, graduating from Clairton High School and Community College of Allegheny County. He came to this area in 1997 and was the Director of Construction for the Cafaro Company for over 20 years, retiring in 2017. He enjoyed shooting pool and fishing. Leonard loved the beach, especially the family vacations to Hilton Head. He leaves his wife, the former Pamela Paterson, whom he married April 30, 1977; his daughter, Hillary Bretcko of Los Angeles, CA; his son, Ian Bretcko of Struthers and a grandson, Liam. Leonard also leaves a sister, Barbara Bretcko of Highland Park, New Jersey.
Besides his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a sister, Diane White. There will be a memorial service at a later date. James Cheers
James Cheers, 71, of Austintown, Ohio was called to glory on May 10, 2020. He passed away peacefully in his home. A man of honor and distinguish, Jim was born in Charleston, Mississippi on July 18, 1948 and was raised in Detroit Michigan where he was educated in the Detroit Public School System. After high school, he served his country in the US Navy (1967 - 1971) receiving a National Defense Service Medal. He later worked in the music and banking industries.
He was also a photographer. Jim accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Believers Church in Warren, Ohio where Pastor Bill Carter presides. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Deb Mayer Cheers, 11 children, six siblings and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. The family has entrusted the funeral service to Lane Family Funeral Home in Youngstown, Ohio. A private service will be held on May 14, 2020. The service will be live streamed. Loved ones can contact the family for details. Due to the Covid - 19 pandemic, there will not be a public visitation.
David R. Mullins, Sr.
AUSTINTOWN - David R. Mullins, Sr., 60, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 12, 2020 at Hospice House in Poland.
He was born August 17, 1959 in Niles, the son of Louis Ray and Maxine (Witt) Mullins. Dave was a mechanic in the trucking industry.
He was a 1977 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Dave is survived by his wife, the former Lenore M. Cowden, whom he married June 5, 1994; his daughter, Heather M. (Dale) Crum of New Middletown; his sons, David R. Mullins, Jr. of Sheffield, Chad A. Mullins of Austintown and Matthew L. Mullins, M.D. (Erinn Coe, M.D.) of Northfield; his sisters, Debbie Mullins (Theresa Perline) of Niles, Donna (Kevin) Marino of Niles and Tracy (Ken) Macmillan of Cortland; his grandchildren, Austin, Hannah and Jordyn Leipply and his little sidekick, Iggy. Dave was preceded in death by his parents. According to Dave's wishes, there are no calling hours or services. Memorial contributions in Dave's name may be given to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Yo., OH 44512.
