Earl M. Cartwright
Died: Sunday, June 29, 2003
Age: 83
Earl M. Cartwright, 83, Xenia, passed away Sunday morning, June 29, 2003, at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Ross County, Ohio, the son of Carey and Anna Lansing Cartwright.
He retired from R.C. Rice Plumbing. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #162, Dayton.
He is survived by his wife, Garnett (Davis) Cartwright, whom he married Aug. 30, 1947; three foster children, Dianna Neanover, Corinna Tackett, and Lauren Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Floyd Cartwright, Everett Cartwright, Albert Cartwright, Clarence Cartwright, Dewey Cartwright, and John Cecil Cartwright; and three sisters, Alice Hammond, Mary Tolle, and Martha Woolums.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, until service time.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Charles Willard Jordan Sr.
Died: Sunday, September 07, 2003
Age: 83
Charles Willard Jordan Sr., 83, of Clarksville, passed away Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7, 2003, at Quaker Heights, where he was a resident for six weeks. He was born Dec. 8, 1919, the son of George Washington Jordan and Laura Pearl Kates.
He served in the U.S. Army, Company C, 748th Railway, Operating Battalion in China, Burma and India Theater for two years. He served at the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal in World War II. He retired from Penn Railroad in 1980. He was also actively involved for 50 years in the training and racing of horses. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (Rosell) Jordan, whom he married April 20, 1954; his sons, Charles "Chuck" Willard Jordan Jr. and Ronald Duane Jordan, Springfield; a daughter, Laura Jean, Clarksville; granddaughters, Rachel Erin Manley, Sharon Elizabeth Jordan and Katie Jordan; grandsons, Daniel Christopher Jordan, Nickolas "Cole" Dean Jordan and Tracey Matthew Jordan; a sister, Mary Jo Palmer; a brother, Richard "Dick" Jordan, and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and one sister.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas E. Spears
Died: Sunday, September 07, 2003
Age: 73
Thomas E. Spears, 73, of London, OH, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003, at home after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer.
He was born in South Charleston, OH, April 7, 1930, a son of Thurman and Grace (Lowe) Spears. He was a lifelong farmer, a member of Leonore Lodge No. 512 F&AM, past president of the Madison County Shriners, a member of the Madison Plains Young Farmers Association and a member of the London Aerie No. 950, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Tom was a gun collector and an avid hunter and athlete.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleanore (Jacobs) Spears, daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and David Hughes of London; Ginny and Jeff Johnson of London; Deborah Givens of Galloway; grandchildren, D.J. and Kelli Hughes; Grant Johnson and Amanda Givens; brothers, Fred (Janice) Spears of Jeffersonville; Hamer (Jean) Spears of South Charleston; sister-in-law, Dorothy Spears of London; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear and devoted friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Hansel and Jack Spears.
The family invites friends to call at Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London, Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gordon Ell officiating. Burial will follow in Paint Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to the Loving Care Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Donald Lee Miller
Died: Sunday, September 07, 2003
Age: 57
Donald Lee Miller, 57, of Xenia, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Kettering Medical Center, Dayton.
He was born in Danville, OH, August 25, 1946, the son of Robert and Letha Mae (Tumbleson) Miller.
Upon his high school graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. While stationed in Idaho Falls, Idaho, he met and married Bonnie Teresa (Crossley) in 1966. He continued to serve his country until 1972 and received numerous commendatiaons including several good conduct medals and the Vietnam Service Medal. He continued in the Naval Reserve as a weekend recruit in Evansville, IN, and then as an officer in the Xenia VFW.
As a civilian, Mr. Miller assumed various positions in the automotive field. Most recently he was a licensed heating and ventilation technician. Many individuals in this area know him as a generous technician who provided installation in their home or church (this was his form of ministry).
He was a member of the maintenance staff at Greene Memorial Hospital from 1984-1992. In 1992, he went to work for Greene County. Regretfully, he was forced to retire for health reasons in 2002. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Church where he was in charge of the Live Nativity Scene at Christmas for many years.
Preceded in death by his father Robert W. Miller and brother William Miller, survivors include his wife, Bonnie; mother Letha Miller of Xenia; sons and daughter-in-law Robert (Connie) Miller of Xenia; Danny (Lenora) Miller of Xenia; daughter and son-in-law Tresia (Tim) Johnson of Xenia; sister Louise McKim of Port Orchard, WA; brother Robert (Judy) Miller of Springfield; a sister-in-law Kristin Miller; special friends who are like family, Don (Peg) Fleming of Xenia; grandchildren Travis, Tyler, James, Brittany, Chris, Michael and Logan Miller; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Mt. Zion Church, 22 S. Fairfield Rd., Beavercreek. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Zion Church.
Margaret Elizabeth Taggart
Died: Saturday, September 06, 2003
Age: 96
Margaret Elizabeth Taggart, 96, of Fairborn, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living.
She was born in Dayton, the daughter of Louis and Ida Klausmeier. She was a graduate of Stivers High School, attended Antioch College and studied at the Proctor School of Music, Dayton.
Margaret was a well-known piano teacher in Fairborn for 42 years. She was a lifetime member of Fairborn St. Luke United Methodist Church where she was church organist many years and was active in the Ruth Guild.
She was a member of the Fairborn Senior Citizens Center and a former member in the Lioness Club and Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Howard Taggart, in 1991, her parents and a brother, Paul Klausmeier.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Gretchen and Roger Moore of Columbia, MD and Susan Morgan of Kettering.
She is also survived by a sister, Ruth Peterson and sister-in-law, Levera Klausmeier, both of Dayton and one brother, the Rev. Robert Klausmeier of Springfield; five grandchildren; Melanie (Joel) Gordon of Laurel, MD and their children, Abby, Sophie and Max; Melissa (Joel) Mulchansingh of Catonsville, MD; Marlena (Bruce) Pique of Marietta, GA and their children, Christian and Connor; Matthew Morgan of Long Beach, CA and Ryan Morgan, Columbus, OH.
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, close neighbors and friends.
Funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. at Fairborn St. Luke United Methodist Church, 100 N. Broad Street. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Morris Sons Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Fairborn.
The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairborn St. Luke United Methodist Church or to Heartland Hospice.
