Hixie "Tillie" Marshall

Age: 83
Hixie “Tillie” Marshall, age 83, of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Hospice of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1987.
Tillie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Donna and John Grissom Jr. of Beavercreek; son: John Marshall; sister: Grace Sundquist, both of GA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Anderson and Libby Edwards, Willard and Glenda Edwards, all of TN; grandchildren Chuck and Ryanne Grissom, Mandi Grissom, Phyllis and Forrest Farnham, Cheryl and John Sands; 4 beloved great-granddaughters: Caitlyn Grissom, Brittany and Leah Farnham, and Haley Sands; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She retired from Inland in 1982 after 30 years of service.
She loved to write poems and make quilts. Tillie loved life and she loved her family. Her wonderful sense of humor and bubbly personality kept everyone laughing. She will be sadly missed by her family who loved her dearly.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. Entombment Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or SISCA in her memory.
Nelson J. Beal
Died: Friday, August 29, 2003
Age: 94
Nelson J. Beal, 94, of Xenia, formerly of Yellow Springs, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003, at Greene Oaks Health Care Center where he had lived since June of this year.
He was born July 30, 1909, in Dayton, the son of Leon "Jasper" and Amy Booth Beal.
Mr. Beal was a self-employed electrical contractor, an avid bowler, dancer and enjoyed horse racing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Margaret (Vance) Beal and second wife Mary Elizabeth (Grimsley) Beal and third wife Bessie (Walker) Beal, a brother Bob Beal and sister Frances Bush and a son-in-law Jerry Smith.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy Smith of Xenia; Rae Ann Beal of Portland, OR; sons Ray (Hazel) Beal of Bellbrook and Richard (Jane) Beal of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 31, 2003, at 3 p.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Pastor Ben Lyttle officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.

Charles Nathan Williams
Died: Friday, August 29, 2003
Age: 90
Charles Nathan Williams, 90, of Fairborn, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center.
Born May 21, 1913, to Charles and Mary Louise McCardle Williams in Rising Sun, IN, he graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1931 and joined the Army Air Corps as an enlisted man April 29, 1934.
He retired after 25 years with the Air Force as a CWO3 in 1959 and from his second career as a civil servant at DESC in 1973.
Charles was a life member of Masonic Lodge No. 461 in Yellow Springs; the DAV in Springfield; the VFW and American Legion in Fairborn; the Air Force Association; the Air Force Museum; the Moose and Eagle lodges in Fairborn and was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Fairborn.
He is survived by his wife Joyce M. Williams, Fairborn; a son, Joseph Edward Williams of Yellow Springs; a daughter Linda Louise Kaiser of Amhurst, NH; his sister, Devota Phalen of Omaha, NA and Madonna Bauer of Cincinnati; stepsons James R. Tillotson and Jerry D. Mullins, both of Fairborn; stepdaughter Deborah Ann Moore, Fairborn and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Williams and his sister LaVonne Deusing.
Friends may call at the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3. Funeral will be at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4100 W. Third St., Dayton, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Joel Timothy "Tim" Davis

Age: 46
Joel Timothy “Tim” Davis, age 46 of Fairborn, OH, formerly of Warner Robins, GA, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003, at WPAFB Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his mother, “Tina” Dannie Davis, and his grandparents Albert and Opal Davis, all of Warner Robins, GA.
He is survived by his children, Jason Davis of Columbia, SC, Dannie Davis and Timothy “Bo” Davis, both of Biloxi, MS; father Bobby and wife Clara Davis; sister Dianne Deese, stepsisters Mandy Hofferbert, all of Fairborn, OH, Sandy Wright and Becky Thompson, both of Beavercreek, OH; stepbrother Matt Brackett; nephews Robert Deese and Jon Weaks, all of Fairborn, OH; aunt Ethel Lazarus of Augusta, GA, beloved dog Ty and a host of other relatives and friends.
Tim was previously employed at Chrysler of Dayton, OH and Anchor Hocking Glass of Warner Robins, GA.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins, GA.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 am-1:00 pm Friday at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, 701 Carl Vinson Pkwy. in Warner Robins, GA. Interment at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins, GA.
Lillian G. Rogness
Died: Friday, August 29, 2003
Age: 99
Lillian G. Rogness, 99, of Richfield, Minnesota, and Xenia, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003, at the Richfield Health Center. She was born January 30, 1904, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Mattie Kluge Larson. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Edina, MN.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Genell and Carl V. Benner, Xenia, Oh., and a son and daughter-in-law, Mark V. and Ruth Rogness, Phoenix, Az., two grandchildren, Noelle (Christopher) Codrington, England, and Chad Leverson, Richfield, Mn., three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Cecilia, and William Codrington, all of England, and a step-granddaughter, Andrea Benner, Greenville, Oh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon H. Rogness, December 5, 1985, and the last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, September 3, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with the Rev. Glen Bengson officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 pm Wednesday until service time. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Virginia Mae Brock
Died: Thursday, August 28, 2003
Age: 82
Virginia Mae Brock, 82, of Corbin, KY, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003, at Baptist Regional Medical Center at Corbin.
She was born April 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Alvis and Eliza Hairrell. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Rufus, James and Wayman Hairrell, two sisters, Nora Baxter and Eloise Vance and a grandson, Karl Joseph Thomas.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Drexel Brock; three daughters, Betty Philpot of Corbin; Wanda Thomas and husband Robert of Rockhold, KY and Dorothy Martin and husband Kenneth of Corbin; three sisters, Jeanette Anders of Corbin, Atolia Easton of Woodbine, KY and Vena Rae Lee and husband Darden of Baton Rouge, LA; 10 grandchildren, granddaughters Debbie Keaton and husband Bill; Rita Puckett and husband Lester, both of Beavercreek; Gail Thomas of Newport News, VA; Janie Thomas of Williamsburg, KY; Virginia Florence and husband Dan of Winchester, KY: grandsons Gary Thomas and wife Debra; John Thomas and Randy Thomas, all of Fairborn; Fred Thomas and wife Becky of Lily, KY; Robert Martin and wife Charlene of Spotsylvania, VA; 27 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and special friends who mourn her passing.
Virginia was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church were she was active in Women on Mission until her illness. She was a member of Whitley County Harmony Homemakers Club. Earlier in her life, she was a 25-year member of South Fairborn Baptist Church, where she taught the ladies Sunday School class and was a GA’s and Acteens leader. She had served as director of VBS and was president of the WMU. She was an adopted grandmother to many of the girls she taught and remained in contact with many friends all across America until her death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, at 3 p.m. at O’Neil Funeral Home Chapel in Corbin, KY, with Rev. Paul Skeen and Robert Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery at Rockhold. Grandchildren will be pallbearers.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Eva Marie Hartzler
Died: Thursday, August 28, 2003
Age: 81
Eva Marie Hartzler, 81, of Bellefontaine, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 28, 2003, at Logan Acres.
Born in Springhills, OH, October 24, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Sylvia Neal Siegenthaler. She wed Roy Hartzler March 6, 1977, who preceded her in death Oct. 11, 1985.
She was a caregiver, giving devoted care to invalids in her home and was a wonderful homemaker to her family. She belonged to the First Church of God, Bellefontaine and the Friendly Senior Center there and the Miami Grange in DeGraff. She graduated from Rosewood High School in 1939.
Survivors include her daughters, Marlene Kaye Elliott of Xenia and Sue Elaine (Alan) Walls of DeGraff; a brother, Wilson Siegenthaler of Bellefontaine; a son-in-law, Richard Kimball, West Liberty, and her first husband, Marvin Wilgus, Pasco, OH; grandsons, Chad Kimball, Matt Kimball, Sean (Mandy) Elliott, Joel Holycross and Jared Holycross and great-grandchildren, Megan and Casey Kimball. She was preceded in death by a daughter Vicky Lynn Kimball, one brother and five sisters.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield, West Liberty. The funeral will be held at the home Sunday, August 31, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Brown officiating. Burial will be in Springhills Cemetery.
