Edith Ann Burns
Died: Wednesday, August 27, 2003
Age: 64
Edith Ann Burns, 64, of Lilley Ave., Columbus, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 27, 2003. She died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Roberta and Donald Jones.
Edith was born in Xenia, the daughter of William Ernest and Esther Mae Johnson Bruce, August 11, 1939.
She was on the first head start committee in the east end of Xenia in the 1970s; the Little Cobra Drill Team and the Welfare Rights Committee. She was involved in several community activities to improve the east end neighborhood and was a cook for Central State University then a bus driver for Xenia Community Schools and the YMCA in Detroit, MI. She retired as a bus driver from Greene Inc. in Xenia, the second member of the Johnson Family Research Team and a member of the First United Christian Church, 626 N. Columbus St., Xenia and a member of the Betheny Christian Church in Columbus. Edith dedicated her life to God and her support to her family.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William Arnold (Buchie), Muri Daniel (Danny) and Robert Ernest (Bobby) Bruce.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, Edith is survived by two sons, Donald Eugene and Baverly Bruce of Jackson, Mississipi and Larry Darrel Bruce of Xenia; seven grandchildren, Ronald Bruce of Xenia, LaDana, Rochelle, Robert and Dearick Jones, all of Columbus; Sharmane and Sharain Bruce, both of Jackson, Mississippi; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Bruce of Columbus and Breanna Bruce of Jackson; four brothers, Charles (Buddy) Bruce (Mary Eaton) of Amarillo, TX; Theodore (Ted) (Kristi) Bruce; Gall and James (Jimmy) Bruce, all of Xenia; five sisters, Judy Barns, Columbus; Alice (Jean) Kelly, Lindell (Linda) Goins, Geraldine (Gerrie) Gaines and Barbara (Barb) (Kay) Bruce, all of Xenia; one adopted brother, Don Cord Sr., of Xenia; an uncle William Reed of Xenia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
Gary Puckett
Died: Wednesday, August 27, 2003
Age: 40
Gary Puckett, 40, of Centerville, was called home to be with God Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at Southview Hospital.
He was born April 23, 1963, in Wilmington, the son of Lemiel Wesley and Margaret Ann (Jones) Puckett.
Gary was a longtime employee of W.A. Hammond Dry-Rite Co. and Twist Inc. in Xenia. Most recently he was a farrier by trade. He graduated from Greenview High School, Jamestown, in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother Ronald W. Puckett; maternal grandfather William Jones and paternal grandparents Ambrose and Della Puckett.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Ann Puckett of Xenia; his son, Austin Puckett of Centerville, who was the light of his life; maternal grandmother Edna Jones of Port Williams; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including Steve, Bill and Justin Jones and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at Beaver United Church of Christ, 1960 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek with Rev. John Barnett officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, OH.

Wanda Joy DeLawder
Died: Wednesday, August 27, 2003
Age: 61
Wanda Joy DeLawder, age 61 of New Carlisle passed away unexpectedly Wednesday Aug. 27, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years. Lloyd DeLawder; her daughter Teresa McBride of Fairborn; sons Terry DeLawder and his wife Cheryl of Huber Heights, and Tate DeLawder of Medway; grandchildren Carmen and Miranda McBride and Anthony and Jennifer DeLawder and great-granddaughter Haley DeLawder. She is further survived by her sister Betty of Florida, sister Donna and her husband Bob McMann of Dayton; brother Virgil Whitsel and his wife Betty of Fairborn; sister-in-law Linda Anderson of Huber Heights and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother, brothers Bob and Raymond and her sister Bert. Wanda was a member of the Old Fashioned Rod and Gun Club of Fairborn, Ohio.
Friends may call in the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 East Main Street, Fairborn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Medway Cemetery.
Ruth H. Hickman
Died: Wednesday, August 27, 2003
Age: 73
Ruth H. Hickman, age 73 of Fairborn, passed away Wednesday August 27, 2003 in her residence after a long illness. Ruth was born July 4, 1930 in Whitley Co., Kentucky, the daughter of the late Levi and Myrtle Dotson. Ruth worked in housekeeping at the VOQ on WPAFB. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall in 1983, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth (Martin) Ward and Leda (Scott) Carpenter both of Fairborn. One son, David Hickman of Fairborn. Sister, Vina Bruce of Cincinnati. Four brothers, Fred and Glen Dotson of Florida, and Ray & Lewis Dotson of Vandalia. Eight grandchildren, three great-grandsons. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Belton Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Wilburn Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in Byron Cemetery.
Mary Lou Miller
Died: Tuesday, August 26, 2003
Age: 70
Mary Lou Miller, 70, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday evening Aug. 26, 2003 in her residence. She was born March 14, 1933 in Springfield, the daughter of Harry and Fatina (Shaw) Miller. Mary Lou had formerly been employed at National Cash Register.
Survivors include brothers and sisters: Harry Miller, Raymond (Mercie) Miller, Springfield, Mabel A. (Miller) Haynes, Cedarville, Wanda (Ernest) Cordell, Gale Miller (Karen Moore), and Anita (John) Moore all of Springfield, special friend of 30 years Kenneth Fischer, Celina, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister Betty Dillman, two brothers Robert and James Miller and her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Miller officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Clifton Cemetery.
Coy Deaton Turner
Died: Tuesday, August 26, 2003
Age: 89
Coy Deaton Turner, 89, of Fairborn, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in the University Hospital, Lexington, Ky. He was born June 7, 1914, in Beech, Ky., the son of the late Ossie and Aggie Turner.
Coy was retired from the Frigidaire Division of General Motors and was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn.
Coy was a graduate of Berea High School in Kentucky, attended Eastern State Normal School, served with the 3C’s Conservation Corps and taught school in the Bowlings Creek School District in Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma (Carr) Turner, in 1984 and a son, Marvin J. Turner, in 1976. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Dorothy; daughter, Marilyn A. (Thomas) Cayton of Los Alamos, N.M.; four stepchildren, Charles (Julie) W. Turner and James E. (JoAnn) Turner, both of McKean, Pa., Margaret (Charles) Platt of Union City, Pa., and Eula (Ken) Roe of Middletown; grandchildren, Jeff (Betty) Turner of Beavercreek, Beth Birt of Chickamauga, Ga., Gregory (Beth) Cayton of Jamez Springs, N.M., and Michael Cayton of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandchildren, Brandi Lynne Turner of Springfield, Jeffrey J. Turner of South Charleston and Jayme Elizabeth Cayton of Jamez Springs, N.M.; great-great-grandson, Christopher Jennings of Springfield; additional 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in the Belton Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, where services will be held at 4 p.m. with Rev. James Allen officiating. Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, in Byron Cemetery, Fairborn.
The family requests contributions in Coy’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society.
Coy was greatly loved and will be missed by all of his family.
Joan C. Fielman

Age: 65
Joan C. (Kennedy) Fielman, age 65 of Beavercreek, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at Hospice of Dayton. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John W. Fielman; her mother, Mary E. Kennedy of New York, NY.; her daughter, Christine C. Fielman of Beavercreek; and her son, John Cunningham Fielman of Cincinnati. Mrs. Fielman was a retired school teacher.
Prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 North Fairfield Road. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Joan C. (Kennedy) Fielman, age 65 of Beavercreek, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at Hospice of Dayton. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John W. Fielman; her mother, Mary E. Kennedy of New York, NY.; her daughter, Christine C. Fielman of Beavercreek; and her son, John Cunningham Fielman of Cincinnati. Mrs. Fielman was a retired school teacher.

Charles G. Cook

Age: 52
Charles (Chuck) G. Cook, 52 of Jamestown passed away unexpectedly in Mercer, PA. Tuesday, August 26, 2003. He was born on February 21, 1951 the son of Charles A. and Louise (Farino) Cook in Pittsburg, PA. Chuck was a Vietnam veteran and an employee of Jamestown Transportation. He is survived by his wife Cecily (Gale) Cook, his parents in Mercer, PA., children; Jennifer (Cook) Penewit of Jamestown, Stephen Cook of Spring Valley and Staci Cook of Jamestown, two grandchildren; Deanna Penewit and Gary Penewit, father and mother-in-law William and Helen Gale of Jamestown. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Powers Funeral Home in Jamestown.
