Darrell D. Morris
Died: Monday, June 09, 2003
Age: 65

Master Sergeant Darrell D. Morris, 65, of Cedarville passed away Monday morning at 6:37 at Liberty Nursing Home in Jamestown.

He was born on March 24, 1938, in Marietta to Earl Lee and Ida Belle Kemp Morris.

He was a 20-year service veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Carla and Scott Skaggs of Cedarville and Clint and Tina Morris of Cedarville; grandchildren, Mandie, Kyle, Markus, Michaela, Austin, Allyson, and Reese. Three sisters and one brother survive, Mary Haller of Marietta, Ethel Warden

of Marietta, Geraldine Eros

of Brunswick, and Bradley Morris of Marietta.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Lee Morris, Earl Morris Jr., and his sisters, Jessie Madison, Betty McCracken, Caroline Morris, and Virginia Mae Morris.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial is in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frances E. White
Died: Monday, June 09, 2003
Age: 84

Frances E. White, age 84, born on Aug. 15, 1918, to Pearl D. and Waldo C. Elliott. She was born and grew up in Sugarcreek Township and lived her entire life in the same house.

Frances graduated from Bellbrook High School and Miami Jacobs in Business College and was an Executive Secretary at Frigidaire Division of General Motors. She was a lifelong member of Sugarcreek United Church of Christ.

Frances was Regent of Catherine Greene Chapter- DAR, Southwest Deputy Representative of the State for the Dayton VA Medical Center, past Board Member of UCC Homes, recipient of the Ben Herbster Award-Trinity Home, President of Trinity Volunteers, member of Bellbrook Garden Club, Regional Director of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs, a Girl Scout leader, Matron of Miami Chapter-Order of Eastern Star, Lecturer for the Ohio State Grange, Treasurer of the Bellbrook Grange, Grange Deputy for Greene and Preble Counties, and was elected to the Greene County Women’s Hall of Fame. She was passionate in her service to others.

Frances was married in 1951 to Ralph M. White, who preceded her in death in 1987.

She is survived by her brother Clifford Elliott; and her sister-in-law Louise Elliott; her niece Wanda Wheeler and husband Ron; her nephew Michael Davidson; and close friends Pete and Cindy Rammel and Dick and Nancy Steen.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Tobias-Conner & Koch Funeral Home, 92 W. Franklin St. (S.R. 725), Bellbrook. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor William Hewitt officiating.

Interment in Bellbrook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sugarcreek United Church of Christ or the Bellbrook Grange, 2751 Wilmington-Dayton Rd., Bellbrook, Ohio 45305.

Elizabeth A. Filson
Died: Sunday, June 08, 2003
Age: 88

Elizabeth A. Filson, 88, of Jamestown passed away Sunday morning at Liberty Nursing Center in Jamestown. She was born March 27, 1915, at New Matamoras, Ohio, the daughter of Edward C. and Mary Myrtle (Cline) Alloway.

She was a charter member of the Shawnee Hills Baptist Church.

Her husband Lyle E. Filson; parents; three brothers; and a sister preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Mary Filson of Cedarville; three grandsons, John Thomas and wife Michele Filson of Trotwood, James Todd and Joshua Timothy Filson of Cedarville; brother, Marion and wife Mary Alloway of New Matamoras; and a sister, Arlye and husband Perry Knowlton of Canton, Mich.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Jamestown with Pastor Jim Riggle officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Silvercreek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawnee Hills Baptist Church Building Fund.

Keith Eugene Moon
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 34

Keith Eugene Moon, 34, of Spring Valley, Ohio, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2003, at his home. He was born Nov. 9, 1968, the son of Neil and Cathy (Lutz) Moon in Dayton, Ohio.

He was employed at Griffen Services located at Wright-Patterson AFB. Keith enjoyed the outdoors and hunting; he loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife Lisa (Phillips) Moon and their children Neil and Micaela Moon; stepchildren Michael Phillips and Brittany Owens; his mother Cathy Shipman of Corwin, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law Matthew and Denise Dakin of Latham, Ohio, Andrew and Herchelle Shipman of Waynesville; sister Rachael Moon of Dayton; maternal grandparents Martha and Jess Cornett of Gratis, Ohio; and many close aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Neil Moon; grandparents Neil T. and Mary L. Moon; his maternal great-grandparents Ted and Goldie McDonald and Lowell and Eva Lutz. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thurs., June 12, 2003 at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit Street, Xenia. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the funeral home.

Burial is in Spring Valley Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Keith Moon Memorial Fund at any US Bank.

John F. Whitley
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 82

John F. Whitley, age 82 of Fairborn, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on Sept. 28, 1920, in Rosco, Kentucky, the son of the late James and Lizzie (Sloas) Whitley.

Mr. Whitley was retired from Fairborn City Schools, served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Forest Valley Freewill Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans and was a former Boy Scout Neighborhood Commissioner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna F. Whitley, on May 10, 1999, as well as seven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Johnie and Elizabeth Whitley of Fairborn; two grandsons, Benjamin Whitley of Urbana and Daniel Whitley of Fairborn; and devoted friend, Nellie Jeffers of Tipp City.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at

1 p.m. in the Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn, with Reverend Bobby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Byron Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of service.

Fred Raizk
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 89

Fred Raizk, 89, of Wilmington, died Saturday evening, Aug. 23, 2003, at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife of 52 years, Wadad Massad Raizk, died in 1992. They were married Aug. 18, 1940, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Mr. Raizk was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Fort Wayne, Ind., one of nine children of the late Isaac and Emmaline Coury Raizk. A 1931 graduate of Wilmington High School, he received a bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College in 1936. He received a master’s degree from Ohio State University and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Wilmington College.

He began his teaching and coaching career at Clarksville High School. He also coached at Clossen High School in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Tecumseh High School in Tecumseh, Mich. He returned to his alma mater and, in 1947, began his long and distinguished career as a college coach of six sports (football, basketball, baseball, track, soccer and golf), a health and physical education teacher and athletics administrator.

In addition to coaching, Raizk served as Wilmington’s athletic director for 25 years, dean of men and as a member of the college faculty from 1946 through 1990. He was also commissioner of NAIA District 22 and served as president of the Mid Ohio and Hoosier Buckeye conferences.

He retired from active coaching - at the age of 86 - of the Wilmington College golf team in 1999. He served as president of Wilmington City Council and was a candidate for mayor. He was instrumental in establishing and directing the Wilmington City Recreation program.

He was a past member of the Wilmington Rotary Club and Wilmington Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Gamma Phi Gamma and St. Anthtony’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Raizk (Dr. Jon) Ellis; two sons, Frederick I. (Deanna) Raizk and David L. (Mary Ann) Raizk; seven grandchildren, Dr. Bryan J. (Ann) Ellis, Dr. Brett F. (Dr. Suzanne) Ellis, Elizabeth Anne Ellis, Maria (Gary) Steppling, Marlo (Gregg) Trott, Lauren Raizk and Leyla Raizk; four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Sally Steppling, Katie Trott and Isabelle Ellis; a brother, Alexander (Marilyn) Raizk; two sisters, Adele (Robert) King and Yvonne (Phillip) Haynes; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an uncle, Anton Coury; a brother, Lincoln Raizk; and four sisters, Mary Fulton, Sarah Tabet, Rosie Bond and Libby Simmons.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the McCoy Room at Kelly Center on the Wilmington College campus. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South St., Wilmington; and from 10 a.m. until time of the services Wednesday in the McCoy Room.
