Loretta Gillispie
Died: Thursday, June 05, 2003
Age: 73
Loretta Gillispie, 73, went home to glory on June 5, 2003, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on Oct. 15, 1929, in Meally, Kentucky, to James Hershel and Lucinda (Powers) Short.
She is survived by two brothers, Ray (Frances) Short of Fairborn, Ohio, and Arville (Maud) Short of Meally, Kentucky; and two sisters, Hester Daniels, of Paintsville, Kentucky, and Burletta (Robert) Daniels, of Thelma, Kentucky.
Two brothers, Charles and George, preceded her in death.
She leaves behind her loving husband, James; a daughter, Cindy (Brent) Measel; a son, James Lee (Lisa) Gillispie; six grandchildren, Carie, Jordan, Claire, Hunter, Emily, and Meida; one great-grandson, Skylar; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Loretta married her childhood sweetheart, James Paul, on June 10, 1949.
They moved to Fairborn, Ohio, where Loretta taught grade school for many years, retiring from Five Points Elementary in 1989 after 35 years of service.
Loretta loved the Lord and was an active member of the Church of Christ, where she taught children’s Bible classes and used her decorating talents for many years. She also enjoyed singing and visiting at area nursing homes.
Loretta was a life-long entrepreneur, an avid flea marketer, and an antiques dealer, operating Elegant Junque in Cedarville, Ohio, for over 20 years.
Loretta was a multitalented woman.
Her flair for art and decorating were well known to all who knew her.
In her retirement years, she became an accomplished pastel artist and flower gardener.
Loretta will be buried in the family cemetery in Meally, Kentucky.
No visitation will be held; however, a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Country Club Church of Christ in Xenia, Ohio, at 7 p.m.
The family asks that donations be made in Loretta’s name to Hospice of Dayton, where she and her family received the very best of care.
Donations can also be made to World Radio Broadcasting in her name.
Elizabeth Strome

Elizabeth Strome, age 93 of Fairborn, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Strome, in 1973.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kathryn and Eric Mummert of Elizabethtown, Pa.; two sisters, Jane and Mildred; and two brothers, David and Tom; three grandchildren, Robert, Lhonda and Lonnie; and eight great-grandchildren. Elizabeth is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morris Sons Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Fairborn. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Juanita J. Wills
Died: Wednesday, June 04, 2003
Age: 63
Juanita J. Wills, age 63 of Union, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, in the Miami Valley Hospital. She was born on April 4, 1940, in Bland, Virginia, the daughter of the late John and Biddie (Lambert) Peake.
Mrs. Wills was a retired employee of the Kroger
Corp. and a member of
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
Preceded in death by a brother, John D. Peake, and a sister, Geneva Stout.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roger L. Wills; two daughters, Lisa Reece and husband, Eric of Miamisburg, Cheryl McGhee of Fairborn; her granddaughter, Ashley Reece; six brothers, Larry Peake, David Peake and wife, Beverly, Ronald Peake and wife, Kathy, Roger Peake and wife, Phyllis, Thomas Peake and wife, Teresa, Dwayne Peake; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at 12 p.m. at the
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 1501 N. Broad St., Fairborn, Ohio, with Rev. H. Joanne Stearns officiating. Burial will take place in the Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, in her memory.
The family has entrusted arrangements to the Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn.
Amanda G. Transue
Died: Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Age: 96
Amanda G. Transue, 96, of Xenia, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 853 N. Columbus Ave., Xenia, Ohio, on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at 3:41 p.m. She was born in Xenia, Ohio on Sept. 20, 1906, to Charles Clinton Porter and Eula (Roberts) Porter.
She was retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where she was a supervisor in the Motion Picture Depository. She attended Wilberforce University, was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Xenia, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Eastern Star Chapter #2.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Mary Echo of Xenia, Ohio; one stepson, Louis Transue of Xenia, Ohio; two nieces, two nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Her parents, husband Frank R. Transue, two sisters, two brothers and one nephew preceded her in death.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Porter-Qualls Funeral Home, Xenia Chapel and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Xenia, with family present at 6 p.m.
Eastern Star services will begin at 7 p.m. followed by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Xenia, Ohio with Rev. Gary Chapman officiating.
Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10, 2003. Visitation services Tuesday.
