Age: 96
Amanda G. Transue, 96, of Xenia, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 853 N. Columbus Ave., Xenia, Ohio, on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at 3:41 p.m.
She was born in Xenia, Ohio, on September 20, 1906, to Charles Clinton Porter and Eula (Roberts) Porter.
She was retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where she was a supervisor in the Motion Picture Depository.
She attended Wilberforce University, was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Eastern Star Chapter #2.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Mary Echo of Xenia, Ohio; one stepson, Louis Transue of Xenia, Ohio; five grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Her parents, Frank R. Transue, two sisters, two brothers and one nephew preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the
Porter Qualls Funeral Home, Xenia Chapel, and 4 to 8 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Xenia, with family present at 6 p.m.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Xenia, Ohio. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating.

Mary Whalin
Died: Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Hospice of Dayton, after a length illness. She was born June 22, 1935, in Alpha, Ohio, the daughter of Harley and Fannie (Brown) Moore.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Xenia, Ohio, and a long-time pre-school teacher at the Xenia Nazarene School and Daycare.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Kelbert (Casey) Whalin; her son, Rick Whalin; her daughter-in-law, Penny Whalin of Xenia, Ohio; her daughter, Terri (Whalin) Bowermeister; her son-in-law, James Bowermeister of Troy, Ohio; her granddaughters, Lauren, Abbie and Carrie Whalin, all of Xenia, Ohio; her granddaughter, Rachael Jenks and her fiancee’, Jarrett Peacock of Troy, Ohio; her mother, Fannie Moore of Xenia, Ohio; her sister, Betty Shank of Beavercreek, Ohio; her brother, Edward Moore; and her sister-in-law, Jane Moore of Greenfield, Ohio; and her nephew, Steven Moore and wife Beth Moore of Beavercreek, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her father, Harley Moore; her father-in-law, Paul Whalin; her mother-in-law, Hazel Whalin; and her brother-in-law, Donald Shank.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Thursday, June 12, 2003, at 7 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Xenia, 1204 W. Second Street, Xenia, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
Mary "June" Whalin will be always remembered and greatly missed.
Granville Poling
Died: Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Age: 64
Granville "Elmo" Poling, 64, of New Carlisle, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathrine (nee Meeze) Poling and his parents, Isaac and Bertha (nee Romspert) Poling.
Elmo is survived by wife Nancy; children, Garry Poling, Tina and Doug Urban, Jerry and Jenny Vance, Ronald and Melissa Vance; grandchildren, Jessica Poling, Audrey and Derek Urban, Cody Vance, Alexandria Paige and Tyler Vance; and best friends, Glenda and Gale Urban and Dennis and Debbie Casson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at the Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery.
Mary Ann Walsh

Age: 72
Mary Ann (Finn) Walsh, age 72, of Washington Township, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, departed her earthly life to share eternal life with God on Tuesday, June 3, 2003.
Preceded in death by her parents, George Finn and Ardis (Finn) Aspel; sister, Louise Patterson; aunts, Sarah Snelland Edna McHenry; and uncle, George Jack.
Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, James E.; 10 children, Tim (Lesa) FL, Anne (Steve Buller) CT, Steve (Lisa) Cincinnati, Pat (Darlene) Miami Township, Mary Blonigen (Scott) Columbus, Martha Dallas, Jacquie O’Brien (Tom) IL, Sean (Carol) MA, Erin Schmitz (John) Kettering, Coleen Petrello (Bill) Kettering; 22 grandchildren, Caitlin Walsh, Lauren and Leslie Buller, Laura, Anne, Teres and Erin Walsh, Danny, Kevin and Brian Walsh, Chris and Emily Szkrybalo and Jack Blonigen, Connor and Cormac O’Brien, Shannon Walsh, James and Peter Schmitz, Colin, Dominic, Kean and Aidan Petrello; sister, Gerri Sheets; brother, John (Emily) Aspel.
Mary Ann was devoted to living and sharing her Catholic faith. She was also very committed to protecting the life of the unborn.
She served as president of Dayton Right to Life, was co-founder and director of One More Soul and was a vital part of implementing parenting classes for teenage mothers with infants. Mary Ann also spent many tireless hours counseling young women struggling with an unplanned pregnancy.
She was an inspiration to all who knew her, especially her husband and children. She is now resting peacefully in the arms of our Lord.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin St., Dayton.
Burial at St. Brigid Cemetery, Xenia, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Dayton Right to Life/Greater Dayton Pro-Life Education Foundation or One More Soul Memory.
Kenneth J. Snyder
Died: Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Age: 84
Kenneth J. Snyder, 84, of Texas, formerly of Xenia, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Carrollton, TX. He was born on Nov. 19, 1918, in Pattonsburg, MO, the son of Charles and Lena (Young) Snyder.
He retired from Molers Dairy in Belmont, Ohio. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Temple in Xenia.
He was married to Kathleen (Snader) Snyder on Sept. 30, 1943, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 1998. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother John Snyder; and a sister, Mary Louise Snyder.
He is survived by his children Kenneth Marvin (Janice) Snyder of Texas, Shirley Snyder of Kettering, Joseph (Glenda) Snyder of Beavercreek, Warren (Judy) Snyder of Mesquite, TX, and Herbert Michael Snyder of The Colony, TX; grandchildren Nicole, Brandon, Mindy and Alysha; a great-grandchild, Kelsey; several other extended family members and friends.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, Ohio. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Savage officiating.
Burial is at Woodland Cemetery in Xenia.
Lora Angelina McKinney

Age: 56
Lora Angelina McKinney, 56, of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away on June 3, 2003, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born April 9, 1947, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas and Nancy (Spradlin) Campbell.
She retired from WPAFB in the Accounting Dept. of D.A.L.A.S. She was a member of the National Harley Owners Group and was a motorcycle and boating enthusiast.
She brought the best out in people and never met a stranger. Her great joy was her grandchild and family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Campbell; brothers Johnny Ray and William T. Campbell; and a sister, Georgia Campbell.
She is survived by her husband, Larry McKinney, of Fairborn, whom she married on March 22, 1969; her father, Thomas Campbell, of Xenia; daughter Heidi J. (Ryan P.) Smith of Fairborn; son Glen E. McKinney (fiancee Mary T. Champ) of Xenia; a grandchild, Morgan T. McKinney; sisters Scottie (Jerry) Hastings of Fayetteville, GA, Debra (Denny) Jordan of Xenia; brother David (Carrie) Campbell of Fairborn; nieces and nephews Deanna and Tony Hastings, Kellyen Campbell, Terry Bone, Kristie Campbell, Dustin and Chris Jordan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert and Nancy McKinney of Xenia, Judy and Steve Cline of Xenia; mother-in-law Viola Roe of Xenia; several other relatives and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday June 7, 2003, at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, Ohio, 45385, with Rev. John Lockwood officiating.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
